“Lk!” Gelinne lked up just in time t see a small aircraft a few hundred yards away, cming dwn.
As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a frmer sailr, realized it wuld land in the river. Withut hesitatin,
he ran dwn t the waterfrnt. The plane had slid t a stp n the brad, frzen river, far frm shre, sinking. The pilt was

Gelinne tested the ice with his ft and decided nt t take any chances walking n it. S he and his sn, Jhn, pulled tw
kayaks (皮划艇) ut. “If it can flat n the water, it can slide n the ice,” Gelinne said.
The kayaks’ paddles (桨) prved t weak, s the pair tried using sticks t push the bats alng. Their first attempts left
them spinning in circles. But with effrt, they made prgress. When Gelinne reached the plane, the pilt was standing n a tail
wing, surrunded by pen water. Gelinne pushed his kayak ff the ice and int the water, paddling tward the pilt and
thinking, “What if he panics? What if I fall ver?”
With his sn nearby, Gelinne fcused n keeping the pilt calm, jking, “Just hang n t the kayak as if yu were hugging
yur wife.” The pilt grabbed the kayak’s bw. Gelinne knew he had t get the pilt nt the shelf f unbrken ice. But each

I knw peple wh say they dn’t watch televisin, and I always nd and agree. Reading requires intelligence, and
televisin is merely entertainment, right?
I’m ging t Sctland this year, and three different peple tld me I must watch "Outlander" befre I g, which is like
"Game f Thrnes" fr fans f rmance nvels. I watched the first fur-hur-lng episdes back t back. When I std up frm
the cuch I felt sick, and it wasn’t just the ckies, ppcrn and peanut butter sandwiches I’d had withut nticing. It was dark
utside, and I felt ashamed. I had spent half a day n the cuch. Research fr Sctland?Nt exactly.
A few days later I had a library bk due: The Natinal Bk Award winner The Friend, by Sigrid Nunez. I needed t
finish it, s I read the last half straight thrugh. I was absrbed in Nunez’s New Yrk City, wrrying abut the herin’s career
and her future. I finished the bk with tears in my eyes and std up feeling, well, great.
I had wasted anther fur hurs n my cuch. I hadn’t eaten as much junk fd because I needed my hands free—and nt
sticky—s I culd turn pages and return the bk t the library relatively clean, but I hadn’t mved and nce again it was dark
utside. Why did I feel s much better and guilt-free?
All the research says reading a bk is gd fr yu. It reduces stress, prmtes cmprehensin and imaginatin, relieves
depressin, helps yu sleep and may cntribute t preventing Alzheimer’s(阿尔兹海默症). The act f physically turning a page
creates a mmentary pause fr understanding t sink in. Our brains have t wrk t translate the black squiggles
线条) n the page int wrds and then interpret the meaning and intent (意图) f thse wrds. When a character is described as
tall with brwn hair, a reader creates her wn picture. TV takes all that imaginatin away. But there’s a lt f gd TV nw.
I’d like t say the answer t TV versus bks must be, as Aristtle said, "Mderatin in all things," thugh he never had a
televisin r a cmputer and had t read his scrlls by candlelight. I agree that t much televisin is bad fr yu. I knw I feel
better if I read, but it wn’t stp me frm watching t: My secnd DVD f "Outlander" has just arrived, and as sn as I get
this essay dne, the rest f my day is free.
28. By "I always nd and agree" (paragraph 1), the authr implies that ______ .
A. she desn’t think highly f TV either
B. she believes thse wh say they dn’t watch TV
C. she shuld be plite t get the cnversatin t g n
D. she is nt willing t admit that she watches televisin
29. The phrase "back t back" (paragraph 2) is clsest in meaning t " ______ ".
A. frm mrning till night B. ne after anther withut a break
C. lking at the ppsite directin D. leaning against the back f the cuch
30. The authr felt better after reading The Friend than watching "Outlander", mst prbably because ______ .
A. she didn’t feel hungry fr any snacks

B. the TV series gt her t cancel her trip t Sctland
C. the televisin series was n mre attractive than the bk
D. she regarded reading as mre rewarding than watching TV
31. What can be cncluded frm all the research intrduced in paragraph 5?
A. Reading is active while watching TV is passive.
B. Reading invlves physical exercises while watching TV desn’t.
C. Reading stimulates the brain t cncentrate while watching TV desn’t.
D. Reading is gd fr ne’s mental health while watching TV is bad fr it.

Musk, Hawking, Gates—the tech giants have redubled their warnings abut hw we culd destry urselves with
technlgy. But they’re nt talking abut deliberately pushing buttns t trigger disaster. They mean accidentally killing
urselves with smething that we invent fr ur benefit.
It’s a little embarrassing t have t admit that accidental deaths are increasing in a wrld that ur ancestrs made safer fr
hundreds f years. Our grandparents saw the inventin f the autmbile, the bulldzer (推土机) and s n, and they made
them all safer. Hwever, nwadays, we put a smartphne n every hand, and nw mre than 1000 distractin-related crashes
happen n ur rads every day. Kids and pets die f heatstrke (中暑) inside cars—we are n track t set a new recrd fr ht
car deaths in 2021. We may nt have t wrry abut AI, but ur innvatins are quietly utpacing ur ability.
We place blind trust in cmplex systems that reveal little abut hw they wrk. It seems that we have superhuman
abilities, and cnsumers seem willing t play alng. They drive at a speed f 80 mph with a phne and a cup f cffee, and they
are prud f their multitasks. Sure, ther peple n phnes are dangerus, but yu can smthly switch yur attentin and
ntice when any emergency ccurs, right?
When we misjudged a situatin in the past, we gt immediate feedback. But technlgy can place the cnsequences f ur
missteps at a distance. Delayed reactins, cmplex chain reactins—these are all part f hw technlgy wrks. But having
adapted t a wrld f new inventins, we are crazy abut driverless cars, seldm stpping t cnsider what culd g wrng
later dwn the rad. Wrse still, technlgy is even hacking ur feedback system. We get excited when we check ur phne
while driving. Edith Harbaugh, whse cmpany, Launch Darkly, specializes in the cntrlled release f new technlgy int
the wild, pinted ut that we’re creating a dangerusly unbalanced system f actins and rewards: “We are nt given ice creams
every time we d smething safe.”
S it is t late t wrry abut threatening technlgy, which is upn us. The mdern wrld is breaking everything we
knw abut staying safe. If we have any hpe f staying alive with the rise f the machines, we are ging t need t learn t
survive the things we have tday.
32. Why is the warning f tech giants mentined in Paragraph 1?
A. T give a definitin. B. T highlight their wisdm.
C. T ffer backgrund infrmatin. D. T intrduce the tpic.
33. Which is nt the reasn why technlgy is threatening?
A. We trust cmplex systems blindly.
B We create t many inventins.
C. Our ability cannt keep pace with the innvatins.
D. Technlgy can’t give us feedback immediately.
34. If the passage cntinues, what may be talked abut?
A. The rise f the machines. B. The destructin f the wrld.
C. The measures t deal with the prblem. D. The wrries abut threatening technlgy.
35. What is the best title fr the text?
A. Every Cin Has Tw Sides B. Technlgy is Benefiting us
C. Technlgy is Killing us D. Hw Shuld We Deal with Technlgy

错误原因:A 项“Hesitant”与“Withut hesitatin”矛盾;C 项“Scared”未在文中体现,Gelinne 表现得非常果断;
D。根据第四段中的 The kayaksˈ paddles(桨) prved t weak, s the pair tried using sticks t
push the bats alng. Their first attempts left them spinning in circles. But with effrt, they made prgress. When
Gelinne reached the plane, the pilt was standing n a tail wing, surrunded by pen water.(皮划艇的桨太弱了,
错误原因:A 项“The plane had sunk t the bttm”与文中“The plane had slid t a stp n the brad, frzen river”
矛盾;B 项“The pilt was nearly frzen t death”文中未提及;C 项“The kayaks gt stuck in flating ice”文中未
C。根据第五段“With his sn nearby, Gelinne fcused n keeping the pilt calm, jking, “Just
hang n t the kayak as if yu were hugging yur wife.” The pilt grabbed the kayak’s bw. Gelinne knew he had t
get the pilt nt the shelf f unbrken ice. But each time Gelinne tried, the kayak brke thrugh the ice. He needed
错误原因:A 项“Because his sn didn’t help him”与文中“with his sn nearby”矛盾;B 项“Because the kayaks
were brken”错误,文中提到“paddles prved t weak”,但皮划艇本身未坏;D 项“Because the pilt was t
C。根据第二段“As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a frmer sailr, realized it
wuld land in the river. Withut hesitatin, he ran dwn t the waterfrnt.(当飞机消失在树后时,曾经当过水手的
With his sn nearby, Gelinne fcused n keeping the pilt calm,
jking, “Just hang n t the kayak as if yu were hugging yur wife.”(儿子就在旁边,Gelinne 专注于让飞行员保
Gelinne
错误原因:A 项“Hnest and independent”文中未提及;B 项“Mdest and intelligent”虽有聪明成分,但未体现
