McCrindle predicts that digital and physical life will be seamless (无缝的) fr Gen Beta. While members f Gen Alpha have becme acquainted with smart technlgy and artificial intelligence, Gen Beta will experience AI and autmatin in every aspect f life, frm schl t wrk t healthcare and entertainment, McCrindle says.
As technlgy cntinues t rapidly advance, Gen Z parents are likely t give mre restrictins n hw their children interact with the digital wrld. Accrding t McCrindle, 36% f Gen Z parents, cmpared t 30% f millennial parents, strngly agree that children’s screen time shuld be limited.
Generatin names fr past 100 years

Ivy Sctt was brn with hypplastic left heart syndrme (左心发育不全综合征), meaning nly half f her heart functins prperly. Despite spending her first birthday in hspital underging surgery, Ivy has dedicated t fundraising and delivering presents t children at Alder Hey Hspital in Liverpl since she was tw.
Ivy’s cnditin was detected when her mther, Clare Buch, did a 20-week pregnancy scan. Further tests revealed the rare cnditin, which affects nly 1 in 4,000 babies. At just eight days ld, Ivy underwent her first pen-heart surgery. Clare recalled, “Seeing her after surgery was heartbreaking. She was s swllen that she seemed t have bxed ten runds with Mike Tysn. Thugh cvered in wires and tubes, she made it thrugh eventually.”
Ivy had anther surgery the fllwing days and spent her first birthday in hspital. Since then, she has recvered gradually. Under the care f her mther, she culd d mderate exercise. Supprted by the charity Tiny Tickers, Clare said, “She’s dne s well and always has a smile fr everyne.”
Ivy began her gifts deliveries in 2018 when she was tw, handing ut 90 gift bags cntaining biscuits and persnal care items. In 2019, despite a brken leg, she delivered teddy bears t the intensive care unit(ICU). In 2020 and 2021, Ivy raised £1,000 each year thrugh nline fundraising. In 2022, she returned t delivering presents, bringing bks as gifts. And in 2023, she raised anther £1,000 and tk in gifts f baby tys and presents fr teenagers. “Learning and memry are generally assciated with brains and brain cells alne, but ur study shws that ther cells in the bdy can learn and frm memries, t,” explains New Yrk University’s Niklay V. Kukushkin, the lead authr f the study, which appears in the jurnal Nature Cmmunicatins.
The research tried t better understand whether nn-brain cells can help with memry by taking advantage f a well-knwn idea in neurscience called the massed-spaced effect (间隔效应), which says that peple usually remember infrmatin better when they study at separate times instead f all at nce in a cncentrated sessin.
Scientists studied tw types f nn-brain cells in a lab. They expsed the cells t different chemical signals t replicated learning prcess, which is similar t hw brain cells are expsed t neurtransmitters(神经递质) when we learn. In respnse, the nn-brain cells turned n a “memry gene” — the same gene that brain cells turn n when they detect a pattern in the infrmatin and restructure their cnnectins in rder t frm memries. T mnitr the memry and learning prcess, the scientists engineered these nn-brain cells t make a glwing (发光的)prtein, which indicated when the memry gene was n and when it was ff.
The results shwed that these nn-brain cells culd tell when the chemical pulses (脉冲),which imitated bursts f neurtransmitter in the brain, were given separately rather than simply extended. Specifically, when the pulses were delivered at separate times, they turned n the “memry gene” mre strngly, and fr a lnger time, than when the same treatment was delivered all at nce.
“This discvery pens new drs fr understanding hw memry wrks and culd lead t better ways t enhance learning and treat memry prblems,” bserves Kukushkin. “Meanwhile, it suggests we will need t treat ur bdy mre like the brain in the future. Fr example, cnsider what ur pancreas(胰腺) remembers abut the pattern f ur past meals t maintain healthy levels f bld sugar r cnsider what a cancer cell remembers abut the pattern f chemtherapy(化疗).”
28.What is the traditinal belief abut learning and memry?
A.Nn-brain cells play a significant rle in memry.
B.The massed-spaced effect is crucial fr learning and memry.
C.Learning and memry are assciated with all cells in the bdy.
D.Only brains and brain cells are related t learning and memry.
29.What des the underlined wrd “replicated” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
A.Cpied.B.Reflected.
C.Analyzed.D.Abandned.
30.What can we learn frm the results f the experiment?
A.The cntinuus delivery f chemical pulses is better fr memry frmatin.
B.The “memry gene” in nn-brain cells is always n during the experiment.
C.Brain cells are mre sensitive t chemical pulses than nn-brain cells.
D.Nn-brain cells can distinguish the pattern f chemical pulses.
31.What is the mst likely target field fr the future research?
A.Learning efficiency.B.Memry capacity.
C.Bdy functins.D.Chemical pulses.
Fr mre than 75 years, Osl-based car dealership Harald A Møller has been imprting Vlkswagens, but early in 2024 it said gdbye t fssil fuel cars. A string f favurable plicies, like free parking, discunted rad tlls and access t bus lanes, then fllwed.

Inspect the back f the painting fr ntes frm previus wners. It may reveal the rigin. Als, dn’t frget t bserve the frame n the back and lk fr a label. Frame manufacturers (制造商)ften print a cmpany name n the back. If there is a name, cntact the manufacturer t learn mre abut the frame itself. This can effectively narrw dwn the painting’s regin and time.
Whether yu can identify a painting r nt, art is wrthy f ur treasuring and preserving. 40 . Embracing bth the knwn and unknwn in art deepens ur cnnectin t human creativity acrss time.

F.Cnsult museum administratrs, art histry prfessrs, r gallery wners
G.S knwing the identity f a painting is a must fr appreciating its true value

The rain pured dwn heavily, making a cntinuus drumming nise. I stared at the brken bicycle chain in despair. My hands trembled, nt frm the cld, but frm the weight f Dad’s wrds eching in my mind: “If yu want independence, fix it yurself.”
Just a few hurs earlier, I had strmed ut f the huse after a heated argument with Dad. “I’m seventeen! I’m nt a little kid. I can deal with things by myself!” I shuted, slamming the dr s hard that it seemed t shake the entire huse. Nw, I was stuck n the muddy path, my bike useless beside me. The rain kept falling hard, and the wind was blwing strngly, making it even harder t see. Pride and frustratin were battling inside me like a wild strm. I had always prided myself n being independent, but nw I felt helpless and alne.
Suddenly, thrugh the heavy rain, I nticed an ld man struggling t push his grcery cart up the steep hill. His umbrella was shaking dangerusly in the strng wind, as if it was ging t be trn away at any mment. I hesitated fr a mment, but then smething inside me clicked. I left my bike and ran twards him.
“D yu need sme help?” I shuted ver the nise f the rain. The ld man lked up, surprise in his eyes, but he ndded gratefully. I grabbed the handle f the cart and helped him push it up the hill. The cart was heavy, but tgether we managed t make it stable. When we reached the tp, he turned t me and smiled kindly. “Thank yu, yung man,” he said, his vice warm and sincere. Then he reached int his cart and handed me a slightly flattened apple. “Kindness is never wasted,” he added.
Thse simple wrds struck me deeply. It reminds me that true independence isn’t abut just refusing help. It’s abut knwing when t lend a hand and when t accept help gracefully.
