In 2021, scientists studying animal cmmunicatin discvered that sme dgs cnnect bjects with wrds similarly t babies. Then what abut cats, which are cmmnly believed t be uncncerned abut human affairs?
Sah Takagi, a researcher at Azabu University, dubted cats’ seeming uncncern. “Cats dn’t appear t listen t peple’s cnversatins, but in fact, they d,” said Takagi. Accrding t previus research, cats understand human cmmunicatin better than expected. Like dgs, they can use human pinting and stares t find fd. They even can tell the difference between human facial expressins and states f attentin, accrding t a 2016 study. Hwever, cats can d mre than that.
Anther study shwed that cats can discriminate their wn names frm the names f their cat cmpanins (thse that live in the same huse). The researchers believed that cats learned t cnnect names with ther cats by bserving cmmunicatin between their wners and their cat friends.
In a recently published study, Takagi and her clleagues cmpared tw grups f cats: cats living with at least tw ther cats and cats living in “cat cafés” with up t 30 cats. Using a simple tw-phase (阶段) test, they assessed the cats’ respnses t hearing their names and seeing their faces n a mnitr. Smetimes, the cat that appeared n the screen matched the name spken; ther times, the name and the image did nt match. If cats knew the names f their cat friends, they wuld investigate by staring dubtfully at the mnitr when the name and image did nt match. Huse cats had a significantly lnger stare than café cats, indicating that huse cats generally expected a specific cat’s face upn hearing the cat’s name.
“This is the first evidence shwing that huse cats link human wrds and their scial cmpanins thrugh daily experiences,” the researchers wrte. “Hwever, we culd nt recgnize the mechanism (机制) fr learning. “Jin ur exciting wildlife watching turs and experience the hliday f a lifetime!” Ec-wildlife turs like this are becming mre and mre ppular with turists. The pprtunity t see whales and dlphins swimming in their natural habitat is s much better than seeing these great mammals in zs and aquariums. A recent study has shwn that the behavir f whales and dlphins changes greatly when they are clse t bats. Interpreting (诠释) the bats as a pssible danger, they start t breathe mre quickly. The bats drive them away frm the places where they feed and interrupt (打扰) their rutine f resting and taking care f their yung. All f these factrs culd have a very negative effect n their general health. Anther factr that shuld be taken int accunt is the effect f human attentin n the animals. As they becme mre used t interacting with humans, they becme less afraid f them. There have been several cases f tur bats running int dlphins r whales and causing their deaths. As dlphins live within clse cmmunities, events like these cause a lt f stress.
Perhaps the best way t prtect these animals is t reduce ur interactin with them. We culd d by keeping a minimum distance between the animals and the bats, and by limiting the number f bats ut n the water at ne time. Mst imprtantly, instead f interrupting these animals’ rutines (日常生活), we shuld try t adapt t them. In this way, we culd learn t stay in harmny with these wild animals and ensure ur cntinued c-existence n the planet that we shall share.

B. Bats separate yung whales and dlphins frm their parents.
C. Human’s attentin is f great benefit t whales and dlphins.
D. Getting t clse t wild animals may bring truble t them.
