And, while Native Americans make up abut 2% f the U.S. ppulatin, they nly accunt fr a small percentage f cmputer science instructrs.
At first, the funders didn’t think the camp wuld succeed because the prfessinal educatrs they apprached all had the same respnse: There’s n way t teach a 13-year-ld Pythn if they’ve never cded befre. That’s nt even t mentin the technical difficulties the grup faced. But they tried anyway just t see hw far the kids culd g, and they went far. There were still mments f self-dubt amng the students, Grimshaw said. Encuragement frm peple wh can understand their backgrund is invaluable. Fr Niesha, that understanding helped her push thrugh struggles at camp. “One f the best parts f the camp is yu can use native humr and peple wuld understand,” Niesha said. Hneybees rely heavily n flwer patterns nt just clrs when searching fr fd, new research shws.
A team led by the University f Exeter tested bee behaviur and built bee’s-eye-view simulatins (模拟装置) t wrk ut hw they see flwers
Hneybees have lw reslutin visin, s they can nly see a flwer’s pattern clearly when they are within few centimeters. Hwever, the new’ study shws bees can very effectively distinguish between different flwers by using a cmbinatin f clur and pattern.
In a series f tests, bees rarely ignred pattern, suggesting clur alne des nt lead them t flwers. This may help t explain why sme clurs that are visible t bees are rarely prduced by flwers in nature.
“We studied a large amunt f data n plants and bee behaviur,” said Prfessr Natalie Hempel, frm Centre fr Research in Animal Behaviur. “By training and testing bees using man-made patterns f shape and clur, we fund they relied flexibly n their ability t see bth f these elements. Shwing hw insects see clur and learn clur patterns is imprtant t understand hw pllinatrs (传粉者) may, r may nt, create evlutinary ‘pressures’ n the clurs and patterns that flwers have evlved (进化). Our findings suggest that flwers dn’t need t evlve t many different flwer clurs, because they can use patterns t vary their displays s bees can tell them apart frm ther flwers.”
One typical feature identified in the study is that the utside edges f flwers usually cntrast strngly with the plant’s leaves while the centre f the flwer des nt have such a strng cntrast with the leaf clur. This culd help bees quickly identify clur differences and find their way t flwers.
While flwers may be beautiful t humans, Prfessr Hempel stressed that understanding mre abut bees and the threats they face meant we need t see the wrld “thrugh the eyes f a bee and the mind f a bee.”
      12. What des the new research fcus n?
      A. The surce f bees’ fd supply.B. The way f bees finding flwers.
      C. The effect f bees’ pr eyesight.D. The evlutin f bees’ behavir.
      13. What des Hempel think f flwers trying t evlve mre clurs?
      A. It’s nt a must.B. It’s a pressing need.
      C. It’s beynd belief.D. It’s a temprary slutin.
      14. What’s paragraph 6 mainly abut?
      A. An explanatin f the research intentin.
      B. Dramatic changes in the research strategy.
      C. Cnflict between different research utcmes.
      D. Supprting evidence fr the research findings.
      15. What aspect f research int bees did Hempel highlight?
      A. Research data.B. Research methds.
      C. Research bjects.D. Research frequency.
