Denmark, knwn fr its inventive restaurants and elegant design studis, is abut t becme knwn fr smething mre basic:the wrld’s first belch(打嗝)and manure(粪便)tax.
That’s because there are five times as many pigs and cws in Denmark as there are peple. Nearly tw-thirds f its land is taken up by farming. And agriculture is becming its largest share f climate pllutin, putting lawmakers under intense public pressure t reduce it. S nw, Denmark’s gvernment, has agreed t tax the methane emissins(甲烷排放) released by farm animals. The measure was passed this mnth, making it the nly such climate tax n farm animals in the wrld.
“I think it’s gd,” said Rasmus, a 31-year-ld citizen wh was shpping fr dinner in Cpenhagen. “It’s a gentle push t encurage plant-based diets, perhaps fewer prk chices.”
The tax is part f a larger package designed t clean up the cuntry’s agricultural pllutin and eventually restre sme farmland t its natural frm, like peat lands(泥炭地), which are exceptinally gd at trapping planet-heating gases undergrund but were emptied decades ag.
Denmark’s effrt is als a wake-up call fr many agricultural natins, including the United States, as they face the same calls t reduce pllutin frm farms.
Glbally, the fd system accunts fr a furth f greenhuse gases, and reducing thse emissins requires making tugh chices n diets, jbs and industries. That makes fd a particularly challenging climate prblem t address. N wnder that effrts t reduce agriculture’s climate emissins have faced strng resistance, frm Brussels t Delhi t Wellingtn, where the New Zealand gvernment prpsed a burp tax in 2022 nly t have a later gvernment verturn it. Even Denmark’s measure faced heated plitical debates and has been under negtiatin fr years. The measure was finally passed in Nvember. Starting in 2030, it will charge farmers 300 Danish krner (arund $43) fr every tn f carbn dixide. By 2035, the tax will mre than duble t 750 krner (S106).
A bigger, mre difficult dilemma still lms: Will Denmark cntinue t tum ver s much f its land t cws and pigs?

    B. Cmparing the fd plicies f different cuntries
    C. Discussing the benefits f reducing farm emissins.
    D. Explaining the challenges in cutting farm emissins.
    31. What des the text mainly talk abut?

Nietzsche (尼采) was wrng:When yu gaze lng enugh int the abyss(深渊), the abyss des nt gaze back int yu. Instead, the csmic vid(黑洞) remains silent, relentless and frightening in its vastness.
When lking at the vast emptiness f the universe, there is a temptatin (诱惑) t lk at ur tiny wrld with nihilism . T feel that ur great achievements amunt t nthing. That ur histry fails t leave a mark. That ur cncerns and anxieties are pintless.
I’m a csmlgist, the kind f scientist wh studies the rigin, histry and evlutin f the universe. I have spent years wrking t understand what csmic vids teach us. And in the curse f my studies, I have learned t reject that temptatin.
It’s true that Earth is neither large nr lng-lived, but that is nly ne way f measuring significance. Cmpared with the csmic vids, there is smething special happening n ur planet. Earth is still the nly knwn place in the entire universe where cnscius beings raise their curius eyes t the sky and wnder. Earth is the nly knwn place where humans can exist. It is the nly knwn place where laughter, lve, anger and jy exist. The nly knwn place where we can find dance, music, and art. Our disagreements and all the beautiful cmplexities that make us human aren’t meaningless. The experiences in ur lives are special because they will never happen in the empty expanse f mst f the universe
The same lessns that csmic vids teach us are fund in the vids we encunter in ur wn lives. The presence f vids guarantees the ppsite;they create cntrast;they are full f ptential. The pain we feel frm lss is the last reminder f the gift f a life deeply lved. The silence befre a perfrmance is full f electric expectatin. Our chice t ignre stressful news is necessary t allw us t fcus n what truly matters.
Artists have lng understd the pwer f the vid. The I2th-century pet Saigy nted that the pauses between raindrps were as imprtant as the drps themselves. The famed architect Rem celebrated the utility f negative spaces, prclaiming, “Where there is nthing, everything is pssible.”
The universe wn’t d anything fr us except give us the freedm t exist. It is ur jb t fill the universe with meaning and purpse.
    32. What des the underlined wrd “nihilism” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Hpe.B. Admiratin.C. Meaninglessness.D. Purpse
    33. Why des the authr reject the temptatin?
    A. He is a csmlgist wh believes science.
    B. Earth is the nly place fr human experiences.
    C. Human experiences differ frm thse in vids.
    D. Earth is special because it is small and shrt-lived
    34. What is the authr ding in paragraph 5?
    A. Explaining hw vids in life ffer meaning
    B. Stating that vids in life shuld be avided
    C. Criticizing the rle f vids in universe and life
    D. Arguing vids shuld be filed fr mre meaning.
    35. What is the authr’s purpse in writing the text?
    A. T clarify Nietzsche’s philsphy
    B. T explre the unique significance f vids
    C. T reprt a scientific study f csmic vids
    D. T criticize passive views n human achievements

Many peple struggle t say “n” t requests frm thers, bth in the wrkplace and their persnal lives, which leaves them feeling exhausted. Saying n isn't always negative. 36 Declining the tasks we can't handle is an exercise in self-care. It’s abut respecting ur wn time, energy, and persnal limits, and being respected in return. It’s als abut reducing stress and learning hw t set bundaries.
Hwever, saying n isn't easy fr sme peple. 37 Fr these peple, a "sft n" can be a gd start. This invlves prviding an explanatin, withut being verly aplgetic. Fr instance, "Thank yu s much fr asking me t wrk n this prject. It sunds really interesting, but I can’t handle this right nw. "Over time, as cnfidence grws, use "hard n"respnses. A "hard n"is firm, clear, and brief. Fr example, "N, thank yu, "r "Thank yu, but I’m nt available this week. "Saying n gets easier the mre we practice.
38 Hwever, we shuld nly accept requests that match with ur persnal values, make us feel gd, and fr which we truly have the time and energy.

Of curse, having difficulty saying n isn’t a mental illness. If it’s a persistent cncern, hwever, it might be a sign f smething deeper. 40 In these cases, seeking treatment can allw the persn t deal with any underlying issues.
    A. It can be a healthy thing.
    B. It can be a skill that requires intentinal practice.
    C. Saying yes t everything is a peple-pleasing behavir.
    D. Learning t say n desn’t mean we can’t ever say yes.
    E. This behavir can reveal lw self-esteem r persnality disrders.
    F. In fact, mst reactins are far mre psitive r neutral than we anticipate.
    G. We might fear refusing a request will anger ur friends, family and peers.
