“ We knw that spending time in nature reduces stress, but until nw it was unclear hw
much is enugh, hw ften t d it, r even what kind f nature experience will benefit us,” says Dr. Hunter, a lead authr f this research. “Our study shws that fr the greatest payff, in terms f efficiently lwering levels f the stress hrmne, yu shuld spend 20 t 30 minutes sitting r walking in a place that prvides yu with a sense f nature.
T assist healthcare prfessinals lking fr evidence-based guidelines n what exactly t distribute, Hunter and her clleagues designed an experiment that wuld give a realistic estimate f an effective amunt.
Over an 8-week perid, participants were asked t take a nature pill with a duratin f 10 minutes r mre, at least 3 times a week. Levels f stress hrmne, were measured frm saliva (唾 液)samples taken befre and after a nature pill, nce every tw weeks. The data revealed that just a twenty-minute nature experience was enugh t significantly reduce stress levels.
Healthcare prfessinals can use ur results as an evidence-based rule f thumb n what t put in a nature-pill prescriptin," said Hunter. Very few peple will challenge yu if yu say that the wrld seems t be changing faster and faster. Of curse, sme peple will. They will mentin hw change has ccurred thrughut histry. We may be n an up cycle right nw, but things will slw dwn again, as they have ver and ver fr thusands f years. But I dn’t think mst peple—even thse wh agree that change is cming faster—really appreciate the cnsequences f the high speed f that change.
The speed f everything is ging up and up. And this is nw demanding that we run rganizatins in a different way. Hwever, the number f public r private firms wh are trying t adpt new ways is very small. Why shuld this be s? I think the answer lies in the fact we believe. Fr the mst part, it is highly influenced by ur wn persnal experiences. And when it cmes t change, the wrld we see tday and the wrld we saw tw r three r fur mnths ag are rarely very different. Indeed ur experiences can be literally 99.5% the same. We get up, get ready fr wrk, and get n the subway, nt paying attentin t the depth f the seawall (海堤), because it desn’t affect us tday.
S even if we knw that things are changing and changing faster, what we see and feel is very different. And ur experiences, and the feelings that we get frm them, are very influential in determining ur behavir. S if we dn’t feel things are changing that much, we wn’t actively and aggressively (有冲劲地) lk fr new ways t adapt t that change. It’s really that simple. And increasingly, it’s really that dangerus.
The way we absrb infrmatin, and the way we act n it, are nt ging t change because the structure f ur brains r bdies will nt suddenly change. The latter nly happens ver very lng perids f time. What can help? Big ideas that prduce big light bulbs ver ur heads can help. A cnstant fcus n change—pprtunities and risks—can help. A sense f urgency (紧迫) t find and use new pprtunities might help.
27. What is mst peple’s attitude twards the changing wrld in the authr’s pinin?
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Indifferent. D. Appreciative.
28. Why d nly a few firms try t perate new ways?
A. Mst firms are cautius abut chsing a right way.
B. Mst firms cnsider the wrld always the same. C. Mst firms feel very few changes in daily life. D. Mst firms prefer mre efficient ld ways.
29. Which rder can shw the CORRECT relatinship amng experiences, feelings and actins?
A. Feelings→actins→experiences. B. Actins→feelings→experiences.
C. Experiences→actins→feelings. D. Experiences→feelings→actins.
30. What’s the purpse f the text?
A. T remind peple f the dangers f the changes.
B. T urge peple t adapt t the changing wrld. C. T infrm peple f the wrld’s new changes. D. T praise the great changes in the wrld.
