“Our findings supprt cutting back n sedentary time t reduce cardivascular risk, with 10.5 hurs a day marking a ptentially key threshld tied t higher heart failure and cardivascular mrtality,” said Shaan Khurshid, MD, MPH, a cardilgist at the Massachusetts General Hspital. “T much sitting r lying dwn can be harmful fr heart health, even fr thse wh are active.”
This study examined the amunt f sedentary time at which CVD risk is greatest and explred hw sedentary behavir and physical activity tgether impact the chances f atrial fibrillatin (心房颤动) (AF), HF, mycardial infarctin (心肌梗死) (MI) and CVD death.
Amng the 89,530 study participants f the UK Bibank, participants submitted data frm a wrist-wrn triaxial accelermeter that captured mvement ver seven days. The average sedentary time per day was 9.4 hurs. After an average fllw-up f eight years, 3,638 individuals develped incident AF; 1,854 develped incident HF; 1,610 develped indecent MI; 846 died f CVD causes.
Fr study participants wh met the recmmended 150 minutes f mderate-t-vigrus physical activity r mre, the effects f sedentary behavir n AF and MI risks were substantially reduced, but effects n higher risk f HF and CVD mrtality remained prminent.
“This study adds t the grwing evidence f a strng link between sedentary behavir and cardivascular health,” said Khurshid. “The findings strngly suggest that we need t get peple mving t prmte better health.
