    STEP 1: PRESENT
    Explain t the class that tday they will learn abut sme famus places f interest in
    China. Activate the students' prir knwledge abut Xi'an
    Say: Xi'an is a very famus city. Many peple cme frm different cuntries t visit
    Xi'an. What d yu knw abut Xi'an? Why d yu think it is s special? D yu
    knw any ther places f interest in China? Write the students' answers n the
    blackbard and discuss.
    STEP 2: LISTEN
    CLASS WORK: Let's D It! N. 1

    Play the auditape fr Lessn 3: Part 1 (Xi'an-the Walled City) and cmplete the
    exercise.
    STEP 3: LISTEN AND READ
    Play the auditape fr Lessn 3: Part 1(Xi'an-the Walled City)a secnd time. Ask the
    class t listen and read alud with the auditape.
    STEP 4: BREAK IT DOWN
    1)After yu've listened t Part I f the lessn, review what was learned. Explain t the
    class that Part I f the lessn is an advertisement fr Xi'an.
    Ask: What is an advertisement? (A: An advertisement is smething that attracts
    peple's attentin t
    prmte sme place r prduct.
    Say: Yu can see advertisements (ads)n TV, hear them n the radi, r see them in
    newspapers, magazines, n buses r buildings and s n.
    Can yu think f an advertisement that yu've seen? What was it fr? Where did yu
    see/hear it? (A: I saw an advertisement fr shes in a magazine. /I saw an ad fr a new
    mvie n TV.)

    Play the auditape fr Lessn 3: Part 2 (The Terra Ctta Warrirs). Ask the class t
    listen and read alud with the auditape.
    STEP 6: TASK
    PAIR WORK: Let's D It! N. 4
    1)Give the students class time t d sme research n the Internet fr Let's D It! N.

    2)Yur students can use the questins in Let's D It! N. 4 and N. 5 t guide them in
    their research.
    **Nte: If yur students cannt get access t the Internet at schl, cnsider bringing
    in sme hard- cpy research material fr the students t use.
    STEP 7: PRACTICE
    GROUP WORK: Let's D It! N. 5
    1)Give yur students time t wrk in their grups and practice the rle-play. Ideally,
    each student in every grup will have a chance t play bth the rle f the student and
    the tur guide.
    2)Write sme key wrds r fcus structures n the blackbard fr them t use.
    Include the fllwing:

    SMALL GROUP WORK: Ad Analysis
    1) Prvide each small grup with a selectin f print advertisements (taken frm
    magazines r ff the Internet).
    2) Ask the students t chse ne advertisement and analyze it. They shuld lk
    carefully at the ad and answer the fllwing questins:

    *What is this advertisement fr? (What is it prmting?)
    *Is it a gd advertisement? (Des it attract yur attentin?)
    *Why is it a gd r bad advertisement? (Is it interesting, funny, cl, beautiful, etc.?)
    *Wuld yu buy what is being advertised?
    *What wuld yu change abut this ad t make it better? (Wuld yu use different
    clurs, pictures, etc.?)
    LANGUAGE NOTES
    1.A Visit t Xi'an 西安之旅
    visit 在此作名词,意为“游览,参观,访问”。visit 也可以作动词,表示“访
    问,拜访,参观”。例如:
    This is my first visit t New Yrk.这是我第一次来纽 约。
    I will visit Paris next year. 明年我将去巴黎。
    2. Welcme t Xi'an-the Walled City.欢迎来西 安——围墙之城。
    ① welcme t 意为“欢迎来··”,t 是介词。 例如:

    ②walled 是过去分词,作定语,表示“被墙围绕的”。例如:
