    Frances McGlannan grew up in Baltimre, Maryland, and mved t Miami in the early 1950s with her husband. The cuple had tw children, Michael and Genevieve, and by the time Michael entered elementary schl it was clear that he had difficulty reading.
    She decided t tackle it and find ut what it was herself because she wasn’t getting any answers t the questins she was asking. McGlannan searched the library fr infrmatin and started wrking at the University f Miami Reading Clinic, where she tutred children and helped cnduct research. She als funded the Dade Reading Fundatin, a vlunteer grup that shared infrmatin abut dyslexia (阅读障碍) with teachers, parents and the lcal schl bard.
    In the early 1960s, McGlannan traveled t Eurpe, where she learned new techniques t help children vercme learning disabilities. She als adapted multi-sensry techniques t help dyslexic children learn t read. In 1964, MeGlannan funded the McGlannan Schl fr children with dyslexia and related learning difficulties.
    McGlannan did all f this while raising tw children and ften wrked past midnight t get everything dne. Hwever, balancing wrk and family wasn’t the nly challenge McGlannan faced. She was als ridiculed by educatrs and dctrs wh believed children with dyslexia culdn’t be taught. But McGlannan was nt discuraged. In additin t running the schl, she cnvinced a publisher t start a scientific jurnal devted t the study f learning disabilities, where she served as ne f the editrs. She als helped pass the 1975 Educatin fr All Handicapped Children Act, which established the rights f children with disabilities. And in the 1980s, McGlannan reached ut t teachers and publicatins in Latin America t share infrmatin abut dyslexia and teaching techniques in Spanish.

    "Users are cnstantly thinking abut the respective channels and fear they’re missing ut n smething if they aren’t nline," explains Ozimek. "This in turn leads t prer mental health like stress. The final link in the chain is reduced life satisfactin."
    "Overall, the study prvides further evidence that the use f scial media is assciated with risks, especially fr peple with a highly materialistic mindset," says the psychlgist. "This is particularly wrrying, because scial media can stimulate and increase materialistic values thrugh influence r marketing. Meanwhile, the platfrms attract materialists anyway, as they’re a perfect way t satisfy materialistic needs."
