As yu leave the Bandhavgarh Natinal Park in India, there is a ntice which shws a huge tiger. The ntice says, “Yu may nt have seen me, but I have seen yu.” There are mre than a billin peple in India and Indian tigers prbably see humans every single day. Tigers can and d kill almst anything they meet in the jungle. Hwever, it is a little strange that attacks n humans are nt that frequent.
Sme peple might argue that these attacks were in fact cmmn in the past. But there were far mre tigers arund in thse days. S, t sme extent, attacks appear t have been as rare then as they are tday.
Peple think it is because f fears, but what exactly are tigers afraid f? Can they really knw that we may be even better armed than they are? Surely nt. Has the species prgrammed the experiences f all tigers with humans int its genes t be inherited as instinct? Perhaps. But I think the explanatin may be simpler and, in a way, mre interesting.
I suspect that a tiger’s fear f humans lies in the way he actually bserves us visually. Imagine a tiger sees a man wh is 1.8 meters tall. A tiger is less than 1 meter tall but he may be up t 3 meters lng frm head t tail. S when a tiger sees the man face n, it might nt be unreasnable fr him t assume that the man is 6 meters lng. If he met a deer f this size, he might attack the animal by leaping n its back, but when he lks behind the man, he can’t see a back. Frm the frnt the man is huge, but lked at frm the side he all but disappears. This must be very disturbing. A hunter has t be cnfident that it can kill its prey, and n ne is cnfident when they are discncerted.
The ppsite is true f a squatting human. A squatting human is half the size and presents twice the spread f back, and appears like a medium-sized deer. Many incidents f attacks n peple invlve villagers bending ver t cut grass. The fact that humans stand upright may nt just distinguish them frm ther species, but als help them t survive in an unpredictable envirnment.
    35. As fr sme peple’s pinin n tiger attacks, the authr is ________.
    A. bjectiveB. uncncernedC. supprtiveD. disapprving
    36. Why des the authr raise three questins in Paragraph 3?
    A. T present assumptins.B. T evaluate arguments.
    C. T questin findings.D. T cnfirm pinins.
    37. What des the underlined wrd “discncerted” in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
    A. Cnfused.B. Annyed.C. Depressed.D. Surprised.
    38. What can we learn frm the last tw paragraphs?
    A. It is the genes that cause the tiger’s fear f humans.
    B. It is hard fr a tiger t make ut the shape f humans.
    C. Tigers sense the danger the mment they spt humans.
    D. Tigers are less cnfident when facing squatting humans.
    C
Think f the wrds in yur head: that tasteless jke yu wisely kept t yurself at dinner; yur unviced impressin f yur best friend’s new partner. Nw imagine that smene culd listen in.
Recently, scientists frm the University f Texas, have made anther step in that directin. In a study published in Neurscience, the team shwed it was pssible t read peple’s thughts with a nn-invasive brain scanner called fMRI and large language mdels (LLMs) built with GPT.
The study centered n three subjects, wh lay in an fMRI scanner recrding their brain activity by detecting changes in bld flw in parts f their brains while they listened t nline stries. By integrating this infrmatin with the LLMs’ ability t understand hw wrds relate t ne anther, the researchers develped an encded (编码的) map f hw each individual’s brain respnds t different wrds. Then, the team wrked backward. They recrded the fMRI activity while the participants listened t a new stry. Using a cmbinatin f the patterns previusly encded fr each individual and LLMs, the researchers attempted t translate this new brain activity.
While many f the sentences it prduced were inaccurate, the decder generated sentences that gt the main idea f what the persn was thinking. Fr instance, when a persn heard, “I dn’t have my driver’s license yet,” the decder spat ut, “She has nt even started t learn t drive yet.” Alex Huth frm the university said, “We were shcked and impressed that this wrked as well as it des.”
The researchers als fund that the technlgy isn’t ne-size-fits-all. Each decder was quite persnalized and wrked nly fr the persn whse brain data had helped build it. Additinally, a persn had t vluntarily cperate fr the decder t identify ideas. If a persn wasn’t paying attentin t an audi stry, the decder culdn’t pick that stry up frm brain signals.
While the technlgy was still far frm perfect, the result culd ultimately lead t seamless devices that help peple wh can’t talk r therwise cmmunicate easily. Hwever, the research als raises privacy cncerns abut unwelcme neural verhearing. The team said the ptential f the technlgy was such that plicymakers shuld practively address hw it can be legally used. Jerry Tang frm the team said, “Nbdy’s brain shuld be decded withut their permissin. If ne day it des becme pssible t get accurate decding withut a persn’s will, we’ll have a regulatry fundatin in place.”
    39. What is the study mainly abut?
    A. The wrking principle f a smart scanner.
    B. The ptential impact f mind-reading GPT.
    C. The advance in brain-decding technlgy.
    D. The breakthrugh in large language mdels.
    40. Hw did the team wrk backward?
    A. They fed the decder data n peple’s brain activities.
    B. They emplyed the scanner t encde peple’s thughts.
    C. They recrded the fMRI activity t assess thinking ability.
    D. They used brain activity patterns t read the subjects’ mind.
    41. What did the researchers find?
    A. The decder wrked as expected.
    B. The decder can get the wrding right.
    C. The decder required willing participatin.
    D. The decder can be applied t different peple.
    42. What will the team mst prbably d next?
    A. Persnalize the technlgy.B. Establish prper regulatins.
    C. Apply the technlgy acrss fields.D. Break limitatins f the technlgy.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

    【44题详解】
根据上文“The Jurnal f Agricultural and Fd Chemistry states that micrgreens have increased levels f vitamins E, C and K.(《农业与食品化学杂志》指出,微蔬菜增加了维生素E、C和K的含量)”可知,上文提到了微蔬菜增加了维生素E、C和K的含量,本句为本段最后一句,故承接上文继续说明微蔬菜营养方面的情况。故D选项“它们的营养成分是成熟植物的40倍”符合语境,故选D。
    【45题详解】
根据后文“Yu just put them nt yur meals such as sups, sandwiches, salads, etc. Micrgreens are the ultimate healthy cnvenience fd!(你只要把它们放在你的饭菜上,比如汤、三明治、沙拉等。微型蔬菜是最健康的方便食品!)”可知,后文提到只需要把微型蔬菜放在你的饭菜上就可以了,说明微型蔬菜不需要备菜,很方便。故C选项“不像大多数蔬菜那样需要准备和切菜”符合语境,故选C。
    【46题详解】
根据后文“It is usually ready fr harvest in nly 6-7 days and ffers a spicy radish taste. He gt the chance t take part in the Lndn Games but he didn’t make it t the finals./He was qualified fr the Lndn Games, but he didn’t make it t the finals.

I think he is a great athlete. Because n matter what difficulties he encuntered, he wuld pick himself up again. He ffught fr his dream f being an athlete. He has been s unbeatable.
