I dn't recall exactly when air travel became depressing. Frm frequently canceled flights and endless fees, t narrw seating and absent fd service, I find the experience upsetting.
On ne such recent flight, I had a shrt stay at Charltte Duglas Internatinal Airprt in Nrth Carlina. Like mst airprts, it hused a mad rush f travelers. But there was an inviting shine: Arund the crwded hall the airprt had placed a lng rw f rcking chairs. With tw hurs until my cnnecting flight, I immediately claimed ne, seated myself, and began t gently rck as I bserved the passing scene. I appreciated that I had been gifted an asis(乐土) f calm amng the chas.
And then, as if the rckers weren't enugh, the secnd act: There was a grand pian n the ther side f the hall. An lder man appeared, sat dwn, and began t play. His tuch was s lving, s invested with feeling, that I n lnger felt that I was in an airprt. Rather, the pianist and I were nw in the asis tgether. I n lnger heard the nise f the crwd, but nly the beautiful pieces f music.
But the benefit f the man's music went beynd the lifting f my spirits. There was smething larger and mre magical at wrk. As sn as the music began, the entire tne f the airprt changed. Peple began t walk mre slwly. Many paused t regard the pianist. A man put dwn his bags, placed his hands n his hips, and began t dance t the music. Nw, at last, we were all in this tgether. It is nt science fictin r a predictin abut the distant future. A new AI system that changes brain activity int text is here t revlutinize the way we think abut cmmunicatin, and has the ptential t becme ne f the technlgical milestnes f ur era.
Many might remember Stephen Hawking, the British physicist, wrld-famus fr his wrk n space and time, wh used AI technlgy that helped him speak by detecting the tensins in his cheek muscles. Well, what's cming next is even mre cmplex.
Neurscientists(神经学家) at the University f Califrnia, San Francisc, have develped a new AI system that can turn neural waves int written wrds. These findings were revealed in the Nature Neurscience jurnal, ne f the wrld's leading multidisciplinary science jurnals, in March this year.
ScienceAlert, a surce fr the latest science news, discusses hw the system uses brain implants(植入物) t track neural activity while smene is speaking. That data is then changed int numbers, which are then translated int wrds and sentences.
The algrithm (算法) has reached an accuracy level f 97 percent, which presents fewer errrs than the average human transcriber. The numbers shw high levels f accuracy. This is the clsest that technlgy has ever cme t being able t“read smene's mind”.
Fr nw, the technlgy nly wrks when smene is speaking alud, but researchers believe that it culd eventually be develped t be used fr thse individuals wh, fr sme reasn, are unable t speak r type. This discvery culd ptentially transfrm the lives f cuntless individuals fr the better, greatly imprving their ability t cmmunicate with thers.
While there are numerus challenges ahead, this new study cmbining neurscience and machine learning using artificial intelligence, shws hw fundamental technlgy is t imprving peple's lives. If we try t put urselves in the shes f thse wh can't speak fr a mment, we will understand why this discvery has the ptential t be such an innvative ne.
28. What des the stry f Stephen Hawking indicate?
A. The new AI system is easy t develp.
B. The new AI system can predict the future.
C. The AI can help recgnize peple's vices.
D. The AI technlgy has played a rle in reality.

29. Hw des the new AI system help cnvey data accrding t ScienceAlert?
A. By turning brain signals int wrds.
B. By changing wrds int neural waves.
C. By imprving the speaker's thinking ability.
D. By changing the prcess f brain activities.
30. What des paragraph 5 mainly stress abut the new AI system?
A. Its ppularity. B. Its high efficiency.
C. Its cmplexity. D. Its ptentiality.
31. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A. We can cmpletely read peple's mind by AI.
B. The brain implant can restre peple's vices.
C. The new AI system is a prmising breakthrugh in technlgy.
D. Technlgy is the nly way t imprve human beings’ lives.

Glbal warming is causing prblems fr birds in Sweden and elsewhere. Warmer springs mean that caterpillars (毛毛虫) hatch and grw earlier cmpared with just a few decades ag. This has cnsequences fr birds that cannt eat prper caterpillars. Therefre, when the fd supply runs ut at an ever earlier time in the spring, mre and mre baby birds starve during the breeding(繁殖) seasn. This is a big prblem fr migratry birds that spend winters in Africa, as they d nt knw hw early spring arrives in Sweden.
“We thught that perhaps the migratry birds culd fly further nrth until they find a place with suitable well-develped caterpillars,” says Nilssn, bilgy researcher at Lund University in Sweden.
T test this in practice, the researchers decided t help sme pied flycatchers (斑背鹟) alng the way. The bilgists caught pied flycatchers that had arrived prir t breeding in the Netherlands. The birds were then driven during the night t Vmbs Fure, an area f pine frest utside Lund in Skane, where they were released. The peak f caterpillar availability in Skane is abut tw weeks later than in the Netherlands—a distance f arund 600 kilmetres that a pied flycatcher culd cver in just tw nights.
“The birds that were given a lift frm the Netherlands t Skane synchrnised (同步) very well with the fd peak! As they started t breed abut 10 days earlier the Swedish pied flycatchers, they had a dramatically better breeding success than the Swedish nes as well as a better success than the pied flycatchers that remained in the Netherlands,” says Nilssn. In additin, it was shwn that the baby birds f the pied flycatchers that had received migratin assistance arrived earlier during the migratin seasn t find Skane.
“The number f small birds, particularly migratry birds, has decreased drastically thrughut Eurpe. By flying a little further nrth, these birds, at least in principle, culd synchrnise with their fd resurces and there is hpe that ppulatins f small birds can be maintained, even thugh springs are arriving ever earlier,” adds Nilssn.
32. What's the prblem fr migratry birds spending winters in Africa?
A. Glbal warming affects their natural habitats.
B. Their babies suffer a lt frm fd shrtage.
C. They return t Sweden earlier cmpared with decades ag.
D. Only a few f them can return t the nrthern habitats as usual.
33. Why were sme pied flycatchers driven t Vmbs Fure?
A. They were s tired that they can't fly anymre.
B. They preferred t the warmer climate there.
C. They were misled by the researchers during the night.
D. They culd be prvided with sufficient fd resurces.

34. What's Nilssn's attitude twards migratry birds' flying further nrth?
A. Psitive. B. Critical. C. Unclear. D. Neutral.
35. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
A. Migratry Birds Are at the Great Risk f Glbal Warming
B. Human Beings Can Live in Harmny with Migratry Birds
C. Migratry Birds Can Be Taught t Adjust t Climate Change
D. Scientists Are Using High-Tech Tls t Study Migratry Birds
