After Under the Greenwd Tree came a serialized nvel A Pair f Blue Eyes. Once mre Hardy drew upn real life, and the nvel mirrrs his rmance with Emma.
Hardy fllwed this with Far Frm the Madding Crwd, set in Puddletwn, near his birthplace. This nvel finally earned Hardy the success that enabled him t give up his architectural practice and cncentrate nly n writing.
The Hardys lived in Lndn fr a shrt time, then in Yevil, then in Sturminster Newtn, which Hardy described as“idyllic ( 田园诗般的)”. It was at Sturminster Newtn that he penned The Return f the Native, ne f his mst enduring(持久的) wrks.

Recently it has dawned n the gvernment that clsing mre than 1,000 f England's railway statin ticket ffices wuld nt be very smart plitics. The transprt secretary, Mark Harper, annunced that train peratrs had been asked t withdraw the cst-cutting strategy, which the gvernment itself had riginally pushed n them. The writing was already n the wall in the summer, when public anger led t an extensin f the cnsultatin perid n the prpsed clsures. By the time it ended, 750,000 respnses had been recrded, 99% f them negative.
The public's cncerns were ver future access t travel advice and infrmatin, assistance fr disabled peple, safety at understaffed statins, and cnsequences fr the digitally excluded. But the passinate ppsitin als underlined a widespread
sense that railway statins must be mre than transit(交通) znes. Cmbined with a refrmed ticketing system, that insight shuld nw infrm a psitive apprach t breathing life int England's railways and attracting mre peple back nt trains.
As a reprt published this autumn by the Campaign fr Better Transprt sets ut, there is an urgent case fr fairer ticketing refrm acrss the netwrk. Fr ver a decade, the relative cst f taking the train rather than the car has skyrcketed, as fares have risen while fuel duty has been frzen. Over a third f the public are cnfused by the numerus types f tickets available, and the cmplex regulatins that apply t them. Why shuld an anytime return frm Chelmsfrd t Lndn cst£32.60, while the same distance frm Grays t Lndn csts £13.40?
The failed attempt t shut dwn ticket ffices had its rts in a shrt-term ministerial respnse t falling revenues(收入). But as the cuntry strives t achieve a challenging green transitin, the gvernment shuld wrk t establisha simpler, fairer ticketing system that ffers imaginative rewards fr taking the train; and t develp an ambitius plan fr ur statins— ne that reflects their imprtant rle in the lives f the traveling public.

    A. The public expressed their anger.
    B. The prpsal was put up n a wall.
    C. Unfavrable utcme was expected.
    D. The gvernment adpted the plicy.
    29. What can be inferred abut England's railways?
    A. They have expanded their services.
    B. They have undergne ticketing refrm.
    C. They have included mre transit znes.
    D. They have seen a decline in public favr.
    30. What des paragraph 3 mainly fcus n?

Recently, I accidentally fund a set f Hanfu I nly wre nce frm the bttm f the cupbard. I remember buying them simply t match the ancient-style hair accessries(配饰) a friend gave me. It ccurred t me that I had been trapped in the“birdcage effect”.
“Birdcage effect” means that when yu get an item ne day, yu will prepare mre things t match it. Weeks ag, I was in the cmpany f friends engaged in shpping. One said that she wanted t buy a gd writing pen t match the delicate ntebk that her sister gave her, s that she wuld fall in lve with taking ntes n reading, and thus lve reading, nt just reading. I jked that she must have fallen fr the“birdcage effect”. But the friend said with a smile:“Why nt use the‘birdcage effect’ instead?”
Fr the first time, I heard that the“birdcage effect” can be used in reverse (反向). Hwever, this can't help but remind me f middle schl, and I seem t have used the“birdcage effect”. Passing by a bkstre ne day, I purchased a magazine and saw the call fr cntributins published in the magazine, s I started writing with eager hands, and then I fell in lve with writing.
After shpping with my friends that time, I began t prceed t use the“birdcage effect”. I bught a small fresh tableclth t decrate my desk, and a beautiful ntebk t recrd my inspiratin. When everything was ready, I started writing again.
But hw can we get rid f the“birdcage effect” in many things, and even use the“birdcage effect” in the ppsite way? Varius“birdcages” unavidably appear in life, but we can distinguish them. If it is nt in line with the actual situatin, it is a“negative birdcage”, and then we must learn t stp lsses in time and maintain a heart f abandnment and separatin. If it isa“psitive birdcage” that mtivates us t develp upward, we can clarify ur gals, shp r decrate apprpriately, and mtivate urselves t mve tward ur gals. At this time, yu will find that the“birdcage effect” is actually nt s terrible!
    32. What is paragraph 2 mainly abut?
    A. The applicatin f the“birdcage effect” in life.
    B. The necessity f using the“birdcage effect” in life.
    C. The turning pint f the authr's idea n the “birdcage effect”.
    D. The authr's cnflict with her friend ver the “birdcage effect”.
    33. What is the authr's purpse f mentining her middle schl experience?
    A. T recall her delightful days at schl.
    B. T explain the reasn fr her lve fr writing.
    C. T cnfirm the psitive f the“birdcage effect”.
    D. T prve her knwledge f the“birdcage effect”.
    34. Hw can we make use f the“birdcage effect” psitively?
    A. By realizing this effect has tw sides.
    B. By prmting ur persnal cnsumptin.
    C. By recgnizing this effect is nt s terrible.
    D. By guiding ur acts t g with reasnable gals.
    35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. Getting Rid f the Birdcage Effect Cnfidently
    B. Mtivating Ourselves t Mve Tward Our Gals
    C. The Birdcage Effect: Influence n Cnsumer Behavir
    D. The Birdcage Effect: Hw t Use It t Yur Advantage
