2) 【辨析】stare, glance & glare ★ stare “凝视,盯着”,指由于好奇、惊讶 、赞叹等原因长时间地注视。如: Dn’t stare at peple like that; it’s rude. 别那样盯着人看,那样很粗鲁。★ glance “ (粗略地、随便地)一瞥,看一眼 ”。如: I just glance at the headlines in the newspaper because f the limited time. 由于时间有限,我只是浏览了一下报纸的头 条。
★ glare“怒目而视”,强调怀有敌意或在气 愤的情绪下看。如: They stpped arguing and glared at each ther. 他们停止争吵,互相怒视。

at wrk “在上班;在工作”,但是在这句话中,表示“起着某一特定影响或作用”。如:Yu can’t find my parents at hme nw. They’re at wrk. 你现在在家找不着我爸妈的,因为他们上班去了。With yur antivirus sftware at wrk, yur cmputer is well prtected.有杀毒软件发挥作用,你的电脑受到了很好的保护。
S, hw can I really knw what makes each student tick? 那么,我是如何搞清楚每个学生为何会这 样的呢?
what makes each sb. tick “形成某人性格(影响某人行为)的思想(情感、见解);使某人这样做的原因”。如:I’ve never really understd what makes her tick.我一直没搞清楚为何会是这样一个人。
Peple are curius t knw what makes firefighters tick.人们很好奇,想知道那些消防员们工作的动力所在。

在It’s as thugh…这句话中,it指代前一句描述的行为表现(眼睛几乎不动,表情疏远呆滞)。连词as thugh相当于as if, 引导方式状语从句,意为“就像;好比”。如:It seems as thugh/if everyne else has finished their hmewrk. 好像其他人都已经把作业做完了。(事实就是自己落后了)
