    The findings shw an almst 60 percent drp in the mnarch butterfly ppulatin cmpared t last year’s study. It is als the secnd-lwest ppulatin finding since the first study tk place mre than thirty years ag.
    Bilgists believe the serius situatin is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry cnditins in the nrthwestern US where the butterfly reprduces. The weather cnditins have an influence n the grwth f milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the yung arrive, milkweed is their fd fr a time.
    In ne f the planet’s famus wildlife migratins (迁徙), the butterflies travel suth as far as 4,500 kilmeters frm places as far nrth as Canada. They spend the winter in warmer Mexic, where millins f the insects stay in trees that prtect them frm the rain and cld.
