British and American English have mutually (相互的) influenced each ther fr centuries, but the reactins t these linguistic (语言的) exchanges are different n bth sides f the Atlantic. British intellectuals ften cmplain abut Americanisms, such as “24/7” r “tuch base”, which are viewed as an attack at the purity f British English. Hwever, as Ben Yagda discusses in Gb smacked! Americans happily adpt Britishisms. Wrds like “cheeky” and “ddgy” have entered the American vcabulary, ften thrugh media like The Crwn. This flw f British terms t the U. S. has gne mstly unnticed, thugh British peple remain critical f Americanism.
Yagda traces the histry f this exchange, nting that many British terms have existed in American language ver the years. Fr instance, military slang (俚语) frm British sldiers, such as“bnkers” r“cushy,” became cmmn in American English during the early 20th century. The rise f the Internet has nly expedited this exchange, with British phrases nw appearing regularly in American media.
Despite the frequent adptin f Britishisms by Americans, the ppsite exchange-Brits accepting Americanisms-receives far mre criticism. British cmmentatrs, like Simn Heffer, describe the spread f American slang as a “linguistic pllutin,” criticizing its influence n British English. Shws like Friends are ften blamed fr the rise f American phrases in British speech, like “Can I get…?” in cffee shps. While British terms are ften seen as attractive in the U. S., Americanisms tend t be perceived negatively in Britain, with lists highlighting things “Americans say wrng.”
In the end, this linguistic exchange reveals brader cultural dynamics. British critics might view Americanisms as crude (粗俗的), while Americans delight in the perceived superirity and quirkiness f British slang. Bth cuntries cntinue t shape each ther’s language, whether thrugh media, travel, r digital cmmunicatin, reflecting a cmplex relatinship between the tw natins’ linguistic identities.
28.What is the text mainly abut?
A.The glbal impact f Americanisms n British English.
B.The reasn fr British slang’s winning ver Americans.
C.Mutual linguistic influence between British and American English.

31.What des the authr agree with accrding t the last paragraph?
A Language and culture are mutually cnnected.
B.British English is superir, t American English.

D.America and Britain have a cmplex relatinship.

A newly published study finds there are imprtant distinctins in hw men and wmen experience pain. Accrding t the study cnducted by researchers at the University f Califrnia San Dieg Schl f Medicine, men and wmen use different bilgical mechanisms (机制) fr pain relief.
This research was designed t evaluate the effectiveness f meditatin (冥想) fr chrnic (长期的) back pain and cmbined data frm tw clinical trials invlving a ttal f 98 participants that included bth healthy individuals and thse with chrnic back pain.
Participants experienced a meditatin training prgram and practiced meditatin while receiving either sme nalxne, a drug that stps piids (类罂粟碱) frm wrking, r a placeb (无效的替代品) f nalxne. Participants were given a painful but harmless heat stimulus (刺激) t the back f their leg. Researchers then measured and cmpared hw much pain relief was experienced frm meditatin when the piid system was blcked and when it was fully functinal.
    The study fund:
●Blcking the piid system with nalxne inhibited (抑制) meditatin-based pain relief in men, suggesting that men rely n piids t reduce pain.
●Nalxne increased meditatin-based pain relief in wmen, suggesting that wmen rely n nn-piid mechanisms t reduce pain.
●In bth men and wmen, thse with chrnic pain experienced mre pain relief frm meditatin than the healthy participants did.
Opiids are the bdy’s natural painkillers. These naturally ccurring substances bind t piid receptrs in the brain t reduce the perceptin f pain. In cntrast, pain relief fr wmen appears t use alternative, nn-piid pathways, suggesting that wmen make less use f the bdy’s internal piids fr pain relief.
Chrnic pain treatment has traditinally fllwed a relatively standardized apprach, but if men and wmen use different bilgical pathways fr pain relief, it makes sense they might require mre sex-specific appraches t treatment. This study prvides clear evidence that sex-based differences in pain prcessing are real and need t be cnsidered when develping treatments and recmmending medicines fr pain.
32.What is the best title fr this article?
A.New Research Prves Meditatin Ineffective fr Chrnic Pain.
B.New Research Finds Wmen Experience Mre Chrnic Pain.
C.New Research Cnfirms Men and Wmen Prcess Pain Differently,
D.New Research Suggests Standardized Apprach t Pain Relief.
33.What did all the participants in the research experience?
    A.Meditatin. B.Drugs. C.Harm in the leg. D.Chrnic back pain.
34.What can we knw frm the finding?
A.Blcking the piid system helps men reduce pain.
    B.Wmen depend n piids t reduce pain.
C.Men use bdy’s internal piid fr pain relief.
D.Meditatin wrks better t healthy, men than wmen.
35.What f the study des the last paragraph talk abut?
    A.Cnditin. B.Limitatin. C.Cnclusin. D.Implicatin.
