Technlgy has given peple mre ways t cnnect, but has it als given them mre pprtunities t lie?
This is a prblem that scial psychlgists and cmmunicatin schlars have always wanted t wrk ut. The study cnducted by cmmunicatin researcher Jeff Hancck in 2004 is the first ne t investigate the cnnectin between deceptin (欺骗) rates and technlgy. In the study, Hancck had 28 students reprt the number f scial interactins they had via face-t-face cmmunicatin, the phne, instant messaging and email ver seven days. Students als reprted the number f times they lied in each scial interactin. The results suggested peple tld the mst lies per scial interactin n the phne. The fewest were tld via email.
The results are cnsistent with a framewrk Hancck called the “feature-based mdel”. Accrding t this mdel, specific aspects f a technlgy — whether peple can cmmunicate back and frth seamlessly (无缝地), whether the messages are fleeting and whether cmmunicatrs are distant — predict where peple tend t lie the mst.
Nw, it has been almst 20 years since Hancck cnducted his study. The ways we cmmunicate have als shifted — fewer phne calls and mre scial media messaging. Des Hancck’s result btained 20 years ag still hld up tday?
T answer this questin, I recruited a larger grup f participants and studied interactins frm mre frms f technlgy. A ttal f 250 peple recrded their scial interactins and number f interactins with a lie ver seven days, acrss face-t-face cmmunicatin, scial media, the phne, texting, vide chat and email.
As in Hancck’s study, peple tld the mst lies per scial interactin ver media that were synchrnus (同步进行的) and recrdless and when cmmunicatrs were distant: ver the phne r n vide chat. They tld the fewest lies per scial interactin via email.
Thugh mre wrk is needed t understand exactly why different media lead t different lying rates, it’s clear that certain media are better facilitatrs f deceptin than thers. And there’s a lw rate f lying acrss the bard, which means mst peple are hnest.
Peple ften believe that just because we use technlgy t interact, hnesty is harder t cme by and users aren’t well served. But my study has shwn that this perceptin is nt nly misguided, but als unsupprted by practical evidence. The belief that lying is rampant (猖獗的) in the digital age just desn’t match the data.
    28. What des the “feature-based mdel” tell us?
    A. The phne is a reliable frm f cmmunicatin.
    B. Technlgy can help imprve cmmunicatin skills.

根据第三段“The results are cnsistent with a framewrk Hancck called the “feature-based mdel”. Accrding t this mdel, specific aspects f a technlgy — whether peple can cmmunicate back and frth seamlessly (无缝地), whether the messages are fleeting and whether cmmunicatrs are distant — predict where peple tend t lie the mst.(结果与汉考克称为“基于特征的模型”的框架一致。根据这个模型,一项技术的具体方面——人们是否可以无缝地来回交流,信息是否转瞬即逝,交流者是否距离遥远——预测了人们最容易撒谎的地方)”可知,“基于特征的模型”告诉我们说谎率与技术的特性有关。故选C。
    【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“A ttal f 250 peple recrded their scial interactins and number f interactins with a lie ver seven days, acrss face-t-face cmmunicatin, scial media, the phne, texting, vide chat and email.(共有250人记录了他们在7天内与谎言的社交互动和互动次数,包括面对面交流、社交媒体、电话、短信、视频聊天和电子邮件)”可知,与汉考克的研究相比,新研究在交流中涉及了更广泛的因素。
根据倒数第三段“As in Hancck’s study, peple tld the mst lies per scial interactin ver media that were synchrnus (同步进行的) and recrdless and when cmmunicatrs were distant: ver the phne r n vide chat. They tld the fewest lies per scial interactin via email.(正如汉考克的研究一样,人们在通过同步的、无记录的媒体进行社交互动时,以及在电话或视频聊天等远距离交流时,说的谎最多。在每次通过电子邮件进行的社交活动中,他们说的谎最少)”可知,这两项研究的结果告诉我们某些形式的媒体可以被用作说谎的工具。故选B。
    【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Peple ften believe that just because we use technlgy t interact, hnesty is harder t cme by and users aren’t well served. But my study has shwn that this perceptin is nt nly misguided, but als unsupprted by practical evidence. The belief that lying is rampant (猖獗的) in the digital age just desn’t match the data.(人们常常认为,正因为我们使用技术进行互动,诚实就更难实现,用户也没有得到很好的服务。但我的研究表明,这种看法不仅是错误的,而且没有实际证据支持。认为在数字时代谎言泛滥的观点与数据不符)”可推知,作者在最后一段想表达技术不会影响诚实的质量。故选C。

Mst peple enjy variety. We like t eat different fds frm meal t meal. We wear different clthes. We like t try new activities and visit new places. We becme bred when there is little variety. This insight int variatin cmes frm Charles Darwin, and it’s knwn as ppulatin thinking. The idea f “survival f the fittest” implies that individuals must vary. Sme are mre suited than thers fr a given envirnment, making it easier fr them t survive, grw, and reprduce. Variatin is therefre a prerequisite fr natural selectin t wrk.
Dealing with the vast variety f humankind can be demanding and even annying at times, but it’s a gd investment, srt f like exercise fr yur brain. When yu meet smene wh lks different r thinks differently frm yu, treat yur discmfrt as a cue t be curius and learn instead f a signal f a prblem.
    ①原谅:frgive/pardn/excuse
    ②思考:think abut/cnsider/cntemplate/give thught t
    ③紧紧抓住:hld nt/keep/retain/grasp
    ④看到:spt/bserve/ntice/discver

    ①愤怒:anger/annyance/vexatin/irritatin
    ②仇恨:resentment/hate/hatred

【点睛】[高分句型1] I asked Luke if he was ready t frgive her.(连接词if引导名词性从句作asked的宾语)
[高分句型2] N sner had she unflded it than a relieved and happy smile blmed n her face, which made Luke feel much better.(n sner… than…
[高分句型3] We didn’t have t say anything else; we all knew it was frgiveness that was the mst imprtant step in healing.(it was… that…
