This happened in Indnesia and Phuket in Thailand in 2004 and it serves t remind us f hw Mther Nature can cause great damage.
Weather patterns in general have changed dramatically in recent years. Scientists believe that glbal warming and the resulting melting f the plar icecap has caused the level f the cean t rise. This in turn causes flding f lwlying areas in cuntries where the land is rather flat and sme parts f which is belw sea level. It is believed that human activities have caused Mther Nature t shw her extreme anger, s it is nw imprtant that we really wrk tgether t cut dwn n harmful activities, fr example, illegal lgging (伐木) r irrespnsible frestburning t clear land fr farming.

Accrding t a related new research, trpical cyclnes (热带气旋), ranging frm hurricanes t typhns, are mving mre slwly acrss the planet than they did years ag, meaning that they get mre destructive pwer and last lnger.
It may seem like a gd thing that cyclnes mve at a slwer speed, but in fact it’s quite the ppsite. Althugh the cyclnes are mving slwer acrss the grund, they still get high wind speeds inside, which n the cntrary makes hard rains stay lnger ver cmmunities.
“Nthing gd cmes ut f a slwing strm,” says James Kssin, with the Natinal Oceanic and Atmspheric Administratin’s Center fr Weather and Climate in Madisn, Wiscnsin. “It can increase strm surge. It can increase the amunt f time when structures suffer frm strng wind. And it increases rainfall.”
Accrding t Kssin’s findings, changing strm patterns are causing greater destructin in anther way. He mentined that the speed f glbal trpical cyclnes slwed by an average f 10 percent frm 1949 t 2016. The speed f the strms slwed even mre as they made landfall in sme areas. In the western Nrth Pacific, it drpped by nearly a third. That means there will be mre time fr a strm with much misture (水汽) t give ff mre f it in each area.
Basing his research n the details f nearly 70 years’ strms, Kssin did nt try t determine the cause f the slwdwn. Even s, the shift is, exactly as he and ther cyclne experts said, the expected result f climate (气候) change.
Kssin’s wrk was cnsidered t be “imprtant and new” and “extremely valuable” by Christina Patricla, a scientist with the Climate and Ecsystem Sciences Divisin f Califrnia’s Lawrence Berkeley Natinal Labratry.
It is Kssin’s hpe that a mdel shwing which cmmunities are likely t be at the highest risk culd be develped by scientists. Given that in sme regins, the strms are mving ple ward and gaining in strength as well, places nt nrmally passed by culd be affected by unusually heavy rainfall as a result. “These are nt gd things t be cmbining,” he says.
