Grwing up n a small farm in Zimbabwe, I liked t sing the sng “That sweet ptat in the pt. Wh shuld I eat it with?”. In the early 1990s, the sng was ppularized by Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi. The sweet ptat is als a “climate-smart” crp. It is resilient t drught and heat stress, thus ffering small farmers a practical climate change adaptatin strategy.
Mre than a type f fd, “sweet ptat” is als a lvely expressin used by many Zimbabweans. Men ften write lve letters with wrds like “Yu will frever be my sweet ptat” r sign “Yur sweet ptat”. Very few fds have made this magical jump int the wrld f lve.
12. What can we learn abut sweet ptates?
A. They can be cked in varius ways.B. They can be fund easily in the US.
C. They are t cmmn t be lved.D. They are typical Thanksgiving fd.
13. Why did many farmers nce grw white ptates instead f sweet ptates?
A. They were healthier and tasted better.
B. They were encuraged by the authrities.
C. They meant the higher prductivity f the same land.
D. They culd adapt t the lcal envirnment better.
14. What d the underlined wrds “resilient t” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Respnding quickly t smething.B. Sticking clsely t smething.
C. Depending mainly n smething.D. Recvering easily frm smething.
