A research by the Natinal Center fr Health Statistics is seen as an imprtant cnfirmatin f the “Hispanic mrtality paradx(西班牙裔死亡率悖论).”
On average, Hispanics utlive whites by 2.5 years and blacks by 7.7 years. Their life expectancy at birth in 2006 was 80.6 years, cmpared with 78.1 fr whites, 72.9 fr blacks and 77.7 years fr the ttal ppulatin.
The reprt shws that the Hispanic ppulatin has higher life expectancy at birth and at almst every age despite a sciecnmic status lwer than that f whites. “Mrtality is very crrelated with incme, educatin and health care access,” says Elizabeth Arias, authr f the reprt. “Yu wuld expect the Hispanic ppulatin wuld have higher mrtality, in line with the black ppulatin.”
The Hispanic paradx has been dcumented fr mre than tw decades, but this is the first time the gvernment has had enugh data t issue natinal numbers. Researchers are struggling t explain why Hispanics live lnger.
“We dn’t knw,” says David Hayes-Bautista, directr f the Center fr the Study f Latin Health and Culture at UCLA’s David Geffen Schl f Medicine. “We thught it was a prblem in the data, but we can pretty much say this is real.”

·Migratin. The “healthy migrant effect” argues that healthy peple are mre likely t emigrate. And when immigrants becme ill, they might return hme and die there.
“Slving the puzzle may help the natin deal with health care issues because Hispanics use health services less—they make fewer dctrs visits and spend less time in hspitals,” Hayes Bautista says. “It’s clearly smething in the Latin culture,” he says.
    1. In 2006, Hispanics’ life expectancy is years lnger than the average f the ttal ppulatin.
    A. 2. 5 B. 7. 7 C. 2. 9 D. 80. 6
    2. What des the underlined wrd “utlive” in the secnd paragraph prbably mean?
    A. T live lnger than. . . B. T live shrter than. . .
    C. T die ut. D. T expect t live.

    B. Mrality is clsely related with health care access.
    C. Whites shuld have lnger life expectancy.
    D. Even experts can’t explain the phenmenn.
    4. What is Mr. Hayes-Bautista’s pinin abut the paradx?

I have been cnsistently ppsed t feeding a baby regularly. As a dctr, mther and scientist in child develpment I believe there is nthing t recmmend it, frm the baby's pint f view.
Mthers, dctrs and nurses alike have n idea f where a baby's bld sugar level lies. All we knw is that a lw level is harmful t brain develpment and makes a baby easily annyed. In this state, the baby is difficult t calm dwn and sleep is impssible. The baby asks fr attentin by crying and searching fr fd with its muth.
It is nt just unkind but als dangerus t say a furhurly feeding schedule will make a baby satisfied. The first f the experts t advcate a strict clckwatching schedule was Dr Frederic Truby King wh was against feeding in the night. I've never heard anything s ridiculus. Baby feeding shuldn't fllw a timetable set by the mum. What is imprtant is feeding a baby in the best way, thugh it may cause sme incnvenience in the first few weeks.
Well, at last we have cpperbttmed research that supprts demand feeding and pints ut the weaknesses f strictly timed feeding. The research finds ut that babies wh are fed n demand d better at schl at age 5, 7, 11 and 14, than babies fed accrding t the clck. By the age f 8, their IQ (智商) scres are fur t five percent higher than babies fed by a rigid timetable. This research cmes frm Oxfrd and Essex University using a sample (样本) f 10,419 children brn in the early 1990s, taking accunt f parental educatin, family incme, a child's sex and age, the mther's health and feeding style. These results dn't surprise me. Feeding accrding t schedule runs the risk f harming the rapidly grwing brain by taking n accunt f sinking bld sugar levels.
I hpe this research will put an end t advcating strictly timed baby feeding practices.

D.The baby will grw t be wiser by the age f 8.
    35. The authr supprts feeding the baby ________.
    A.in the night
    B.every fur hurs
    C.whenever it wants fd

The research finds ut that babies wh are fed n demand d better at schl at age 5, 7 , 11 and 14, than babies fed accrding t the clck. D yu knw hw it is when yu see smene yawn and yu start yawning t? Or hw hard it is t be amng peple laughing and nt laugh yurself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirrr neurns(神经元)in ur brains.
Put simply, the existence f mirrr neurns suggests that every time we see smene else d smething, ur brains imitate(模仿)it, whether r nt we actually perfrm the same actin. This explains a great deal abut hw we learn t smile, talk, walk, dance r play sprts. But the idea ges further: mirrr neurns nt nly appear t explain physical actins, they als tell us that there is a bilgical basis fr the way we understand ther peple.
Mirrr neurns can undubtedly be fund all ver ur brains, but especially in the areas which relate t ur ability t use languages, and t understand hw ther peple feel. Researchers have fund that mirrr neurns relate strngly t language. A grup f researchers discvered that if they gave peple sentences t listen t (fr example:“The hand tk hld f the ball”), the same mirrr neurns were triggered as when the actin was actually perfrmed (in this example, actually taking hld f a ball).
Any prblems with mirrr neurns may well result in prblems with behavir. Much research suggests that peple with scial and behaviral prblems have mirrr neurns which are nt fully functining. Hwever, it is nt yet knwn exactly hw these discveries might help find treatments fr scial disrders.
Research int mirrr neurns seems t prvide us with ever mre infrmatin cncerning hw humans behave and interact(互动).Indeed, it may turn ut t be the equivalent(相等物)fr neurscience f what Einstein's thery f relativity was fr physics. And the next time yu feel the urge t cugh in the cinema when smene else des—well, perhaps yu'll understand why.
    67.Mirrr neurns can explain ________.
A.why we cry when we are hurt
B.why we cugh when we suffer frm a cld
C.why we smile when we see smene else smile
D.why we yawn when we see smene else stay up late
68.The underlined wrd “triggered” in the third paragraph prbably means “________”.
    A.set ff B.cut ff
    C.built up D.brken up
69.We can learn frm the passage that mirrr neurns ________.
A.relate t human behavir and interactin
B.cntrl human physical actins and feelings
C.result in bad behavir and scial disrders
D.determine ur knwledge and language abilities
70.What is the passage mainly abut?
    A.Ways t find mirrr neurns.
    B.Prblems f mirrr neurns.
    C.Existence f mirrr neurns.
    D.Functins f mirrr neurns.
