There was such a " representatin gap" as Sarah puts it, in terms f what kinds f cuisines were nticeably featured in thse early days f TV celebrity chefs and the emerging fd blgsphere (博客圈).
As it turns ut, thugh, the Leungs were uniquely psitined t d smething abut it. Bill, the father, had spent years cking beef at his family's Chinese American takeut restaurant. Judy, the mm, was brn and raised in Shanghai and had deep knwledge abut traditinal Shanghainese cking. Meanwhile, the tw sisters had grwn up in the New Jersey suburbs, eating their parents' fd, but als grwing in America's wn fd-bsessed culture.
S, in 2013, the Leungs started The Wks f Life. What distinguished their blg frm thers was that the intergeneratinal heritage(传承)f knwledge that the Leungs were s eager fr was baked right int the cncept —The fur family members tk turns psting recipes, each sharing their wn favrites, tapping int their wn areas f expert knwledge.

Have yu ever seen yur cat r dg eat grass? They d s because it can help their digestin, and many wild species use natural substances t prevent and cntrl diseases. This is called "z pharmacgnsy" r, mre cmmnly, animal self-medicatin.
Scientists have discvered that tamarin mnkeys use a specific tree resin (树脂) as medicine. In the Atlantic Frest f Brazil, scientists fllwed several grups f them t cllect data. During ne f these daily studies, tamarin mnkeys were bserved rubbing their bdies n the trunk f a tree. At first, researchers thught that they were marking their territry, a cmmn behavir in this species. Btanical experts later cnfirmed that the tree was a species f Cabreúva, which is well knwn fr its medical prperties.
Researchers decided t place camera-traps in different sites at the ft f the tree t recrd future visits by tamarin mnkeys. The recrds surprisingly shwed that many animals living in the frest visited it.
Ttally, ten species were bserved. Fr many f them, it was the first time that behavir similar t self-medicatin had been bserved. Mre surprisingly, ne species spread resin n each ther's fur in pairs. In general, the species seemed t specifically visit the tree t acquire the resin and seemingly benefit frm it, either healing their wunds r fighting back parasites(寄生虫).
While further studies are needed t identify the prperties f the resin and thus cnfirm that this is indeed self-medicatin, the use f it suggests that Cabreúva represents a cmmn and universal drugstre fr the residents in the Atlantic Frest f Brazil. It is likely t be a valuable resurce helping the species maintain their magnitude by imprving their health.
This discvery culd have an imprtant prtectin influence, as the disappearance f sme trees culd ptentially affect the survival f sme animals.

31. What is the pssible significance f the discvery accrding t the last part?

Summer tmates are s filled with prmise: the red clr; the grassy tmat-leaf smell; the expectatin f a muthful f sweet-salty tmat dishes. But supermarket tmat after supermarket tmat des little mre than disappintment. Hw can a fruit with s much ptential cnstantly taste slightly juicy at best and a glbe f cardbard at wrst?
We knw that mdern tmates sld at the supermarket are picked green and grwn fr pest resistance, shipping, and shelf life and that the agriculture industry creates prduce designed fr prfit, nt flavr. Are these the factrs t blame fr the tmat's pr taste?
But even when allwed t ripen(成熟)befre they are harvested and shipped with great care, mdern tmates are still tasteless. When researchers lked int this tmat matter, they uncvered a fascinating genetic cause fr the fruit's dullness. What t blame is a gene mutatin(基因突变)discvered accidentally arund 70 years ag, nt which tmat grwers quickly relied. In fact, nw the mutatin has been deliberately grwn int nearly all mdern tmates.
Why? It makes them a unifrm and attractively red when they are ripe. Unfrtunately fr tmat lvers far and wide, the red-making mutatin stps the activeness f an imprtant gene respnsible fr prducing the sugar and smell that are essential fr a gd smelling and flavrful tmat, as reprted in the paper, which was published in the jurnal Science. When the researchers "turned n" the gene that had stpped wrking, the fruit had 20% mre sugar and 20%—30% mre cartenids(类胡萝卜素)when ripe. Yet the fruit's nn-unifrm greenish clr suggests that mainstream grwers will nt be fllwing suit anytime sn.
Hwever, fr anyne with a nearby farmer's market, a supermarket that ffers traditinal prduce, r a garden in the back, there is anther chice instead f cardbard-flavred tmates. Traditinal tmates and wild species have nt had the essence f tmates sucked ut f them by selective grwing-s shp fr thse r grw them yurself. They may nt lk like the Disney versin f a perfect fruit, but they actually taste like tmates.
32. Why is a questin raised at the end f paragraph 1?
A. T intrduce the tpic.
B. T draw a cnclusin frm cmparisn.
C. T encurage readers t take actin.
D. T express disappintment at supermarket tmates.
33. Why are mdern tmates tasteless?
A. They have ripened when picked.
B. They are affected by gene mutatin.
C. They are kept n the shelf fr t lng.
D. They are treated with chemicals fr shipping.
34. What's a disadvantage f the tmates the researchers grew accrding t paragraph 4?
A. Taste.B. Clr.C. Size.D. Prductin.
35. What's the authr's attitude tward traditinal tmates?
A. Critical.B. Curius.C. Uncncerned.D. Favrable.
