Back in the summer f 2017, I was busy studying in Beijing when I suddenly gt hmesick fr sme Western fd.
S, I wandered the streets nearby until I came acrss a restaurant and finally fund it —whle chicken! In my head, I imagined a juicy, tender(嫩的) whle bird with perfectly crispy(酥脆的) brwned skin with a side f mashed ptates(土豆泥):just the way it is always prepared in America, right?

Yet, when the bird finally landed n my plate, my wide grin(咧嘴笑) turned t ne f shck. Rather than a glden crispy brwn, the skin was instead bright yellw. But the mst bvius was smething that I wuld rather nt have seen at all: the head! In all my years f eating chicken, I had never seen the head still attached t the rest f the bdy. In America, althugh peple understand where meat cmes frm, the way fd is presented means they aren't reminded f the living animal it nce was. When staring face-t-face with the dead bird n my plate, that fact was made much mre apparent.
