He’s of medium height.Key Points一、描述人的外貌1. 询问某人的外貌特征和长相的用 语 What do you look like? 或 者 What does he/she look like? 即用:What+do/does+主语+ look like? 2. 描述某人的外貌特征的用语 描述某人的外貌特征经常用“主语 +be+描述人外貌特征的形容词” 或者“主语+have/has+名词 (名词的前面有多个形容词修饰)” 两种方式来回答。 (1)— What do you look like? — I am tall and thin. (2)— What does your mother look like? — She is tall. She has long hair.注意:描述人或事物的特点、性质还可以使用“be + of +名词”结构,例如本单元学到的He is of medium build/height.= He has a medium build/height.3. 描述外貌的其他方法除了以上的句 式外,动词wear, have, 和with构成 的介词短语等也常用来描述人的外 貌。 (1)Lu Xun wore a moustache while Marx had a beard. (2)Do you know the girl with long hair?二、形容词的排序在英语中,当名词有多个形容词修饰时,就有它们的先后顺序。下面的口诀可帮你记住这一先后顺序:限定描绘大、长、高,形状、年龄和新老;颜色、国籍跟材料,作用、类别往后靠。注解1: “限定词”包括: 冠词、物主代词、指示代词和数词,它位于各类形容词前。它本身分为三位,即: 前、中、后。前位限定词有all、half、both、分数和倍数;中位限定词有冠词、指示代词、物主代词等;后位限定词有基数词和序数词,但序数词位于基数词前。如:both my hands; all his income.注解2:“描绘”性形容词。如:beautiful、bad、cold、great等。注解3: “大、长、高”表示大小、长短、高低等一些词;表示“形状”的词,如: round、square等;“国籍”表示一个国家或地区的词;表示“材料”的词,如: wooden, woolen, stone, silk等;表示“作用类别”的词,如:medical, college, writing desk, police car等。1. 结构:一般疑问句+ or + 选择部分? Is he tall or short? 他个子高还是矮? 2. 回答:选择疑问句的回答不同于一般 疑问句,不能用yes/no来回答,而必 须选择选项进行回答。 — Does he live in Beijing or Shanghai? — Beijing.三、选择疑问句四、maybe 与may be的区别1. maybe是副词,意思是“也许、可能”, 在句中作状语,相当于perhaps,常位 于句首。 Maybe she’ll come this afternoon. 2. 在may be中,may是情态动词, be是动词原形,两者构成完整的 谓语形式,与表语形成系表结构, 意为“也许是、可能是”。 He may be a soldier. 3. maybe和may be可相互转换。 He may be in the office. =Maybe he is in the office. 五、at / by the end of与in the end 的区别:1.at the end of +时间点或地点, “在……的尽头,在……的末尾”。 They will have a sports meeting at the end of March. He put some books at the end of the bed. (地点)他在床尾放了几本书。2. by the end of +时间点, “截止到……末”。 (1)若接过去的时间点,常用过去 完成时。 We had built ten buildings by the end of 2002.   (2)若接将来的时间,常用一般将来时。 We shall finish the work by the end of next month. 3. in the end “最后”,后不加of 短语。 They wanted to find a place to rest in. In the end, they saw a village.
