题目要求:马背惊魂(文本改编 选自《当你像鸟飞往你的山》之第十一章“直觉” )When Grandpa was a young man, there’d been herds of livestock spread across the mountain. By the time I was born there was a whole herd of wild horses on the mountain. But wild horses don’t yield easily. My brother Shawn and I would spend days, even weeks, earning the horse’s trust. Then we would stroke(轻抚) its long face and gradually, over more weeks, work our hands around its wide neck and down its muscular body. After a month of this we’d bring out the saddle(马鞍), and the horse would toss its head suddenly and with such violence that the halter(缰绳) would snap or the rope break. I was thrown from dozens of these horses as they bucked(弓背四蹄跳跃), reared, rolled or leapt. I hit the dirt in a hundred sprawling postures, each time righting myself in an instant and skittering to the safety of a tree, tractor or fence, in case the horse was feeling vengeful. We never triumphed; our strength of will faltered long before theirs. Their natures hadn’t changed. They were pitiless, powerful avatars from another world. To mount them was to surrender your footing, to move into their domain. The first domesticated horse I ever saw was a fully grown male horse, and it was standing next to the corral, nibbling sugar cubes from Shawn’s hand. It was mine, a gift from a great-uncle on my mother’s side. It was a hazy summer evening, a month before I turned fifteen. The sun had dipped below the mountain peak but the sky still held a few hours of light. That evening, Shawn saddled a new horse, a copper-coated mare, for the first time. She was ready for a short ride, Shawn said, so we mounted, him on the mare, me on Bud. We made it about half a mile up the mountain, winding our way through the wheat fields. Then I did something foolish. I got too close to the mare, and with no warning she leapt forward, thrusting her weight onto her front legs, and with her hind legs kicked Bud full in the chest.Bud went wild. ______________________________Shawn caught up. / n. to move one’s hand gently and slowly over an animal’s fur or hair. ________________________________________________________________toss v. to throw slightly or carelessly 轻轻或漫不经心地扔、掷、抛to move your head suddenly upwards, especially to show that you are annoyed or impatient 甩(头, 以表示恼怒或不耐烦)翻译:她头一甩,走开了。________________________________________________________________to move or make sb/sth move from side to side or up and down摇摆,挥动,颠簸翻译:树叶随风摇曳。________________________________________________________________snap v. to break sth suddenly with a sharp noise, to be braken in this way. ________________________________________________________________~ at sb: to speak or say sth in an impatient. The reins flew over his head. I gripped the saddle horn and squeezed my thighs together, curving my legs around his bulging belly. Before I could get my bearings, Bud took off at a dead run. Sometimes, he reared, thrusting his head so high I thought he might tumble backward. I tightened my grip on the horn, making a decision, based on a kind of instinct, not to surrender my hold.Shawn caught up. _______________He lifted his body from the saddle and tilted himself toward the ground, holding his reins tightly in one hand while, with the other, he snatched Bud’s reins from the weeds. The leather straps pulled taut; the bit forced Bud’s head up and forward. With his head raised, Bud could no longer buck and he entered a smooth, rhythmic gallop. Finally, I slid from the saddle safelyand lay in the wheat, the itchy stalks poking through my shirt. Above my head the horses panted, their bellies swelling and collapsing, their hooves pawing at the dirt.分类语料整理:关于“马”的词汇:动词:toss its head甩头; buck尥起后蹄跳跃; rear用后腿直立; roll原地打转; leap跳,跃; nibble啃,轻咬; thrust its weight onto his front legs (thrust sth onto sth把…强加于)把全部力量放在前腿; throw its body in full circles一波波甩动着身体; take off起跑; thrust one’s head high抬高头; tumble倒塌;pant气喘,喘息 paw挠,抓,用蹄(刨地);形容词:fully grown完全成熟的; pitiless冷酷的; powerful健壮的; copper-coated古铜色的;bulging鼓起的; 名词: jolt颠簸; belly肚子; gallop飞奔; hoof蹄关于“骑马”的词汇:earn the horse’s trust 赢得马的信任; stroke its long face轻抚它的长脸; mount on 跨上(马); grip the saddle horn抓着马鞍角; squeeze one’s thighs夹紧大腿; curve one’s legs弯曲大腿; tighten one’s grip抓紧; lift one’s body from the saddle从马鞍上抬起身体; title oneself倾斜身体; snatch the rein一把抓起缰绳;pull… taut拉紧; 工具:saddle 马鞍; halter缰绳; corral畜栏; rein缰绳; leather strap皮带; 翻译答案:He stroked her affectionately. She stroked away his tears. She just tossed her head and walked off.Branches were tossing in the wind.He snapped a twig off a bush.I was tempted to snap back angrily at him. When he said that, something snapped inside her.The horse reared, throwing its rider.Something hit her and sent her sprawling to the ground.Pieces of paper were skittering along the sidewalk. He mounted his horse and rode away. She took some cake from the tray and nibbled at it.The mountains were haze in the distance. He jumped in expertly; the boat dipped slightly under his weight. ______________________________巴德猛地一颠,然后弓背跃起,一波波甩动着身体。__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________缰绳跃过他头上飞起。_____________________________________________________________________我拼命抓着马鞍角,弯曲大腿,紧紧夹住它鼓鼓的肚子。__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________没等我看清方向,它便死命直冲而去。____________________________________________________________________有时候,它直立起来,头抬得如此之高,我都担心他向后倒去。_____________________________________________________________________我抓紧马鞍角,下定决心,出于一种直觉,我绝不放手。_____________________________________________________________________Para2 Shawn caught up. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________缰绳拉紧,迫使巴德的头向前抬起。__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________头被提着,巴德就不能弓背跃起了,于是他平稳而有节奏地跑了起来。__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________最终,我安全地从马鞍上滑下来,躺在小麦里,痒痒的麦秆刺进我的衬衫。__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________在我头顶上方,两匹马都气喘吁吁,它们的肚皮一吸一鼓,蹄子落在泥土上。 It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos. His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. “The day starts at dawn on my farm,” he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze (吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool. In the afternoon, I asked U ncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. “Don’t be late for supper,” Uncle Paul cried, “and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!” “OK!” my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven (编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us. Paragraph 1: Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. The horse gave a tremendous jolt, and then it took off at a dead run. I squeezed my thighs together, curving my legs around its belly, though my mind went totally blank and heart pounding wildly. After a split second, my dad caught up. He lifted his body from the saddle, and tilted himself to snatch the halter from my horse. The leather straps pulled taut. With its head forced up and forward, it gradually entered a smooth, rhythmic gallop.
