Believing if we paddled tward that spt, we'd be safe frm the whales, since they'd just left, we fllwed them at what I believed was a safe distance. Suddenly, the kayak lifted ut f the water and then tipped back int the cean. My initial fear was that the whale intended t drag us dwn. In a heart-stpping mment, I realized that Liz and I weren't just lifted by the whale — we were inside its muth. My entire bdy was envelped except fr my right arm and paddle. Liz, meanwhile, was staring up int the whale's jaw. Fearing t be swallwed, I kept thinking: I've gt t get up; I've gt t fight this; I've gt t breathe.
Whales have enrmus muths but tiny thrats. They spit ut anything they can't swallw. We were wearing life jackets, which likely helped us quickly reappear ut f the water. The entire curse lasted nly ten secnds.
A few nearby peple paddled ver, including a retired firefighter wh asked us if we were OK. "Yu were in the whale's muth!" he tld us. "We thught yu were dead." I came s clse t being injured r killed. I am much mre appreciative f life nw.

After twelve rejectins, ne publisher eventually agreed t print 500 cpies f her first bk, and Harry Ptter became a glbal success, with ver 400 millin bks sld and translated int mre than seventy different languages.
Perhaps the verall prize fr perseverance shuld g t three sisters frm Victrian England dreaming f seeing their wrds in print. This, hwever, was a time when wmen were nt encuraged t becme writers.
