Scientists have discvered the wrld's largest knwn field f seagrass with the aid f sme unusual helpers: tiger sharks.
Seagrass usually grws in shallw waters. It grws in thick fields, knwn as meadws (草地). These seagrass meadws help clean the cean's water, and prvide shelter fr lts f sealife. Thugh they're very imprtant, scientists dn't have a gd idea f the size and number f the wrld’s seagrass meadws. Trying t find these meadws frm abve the sea waters can be quite difficult. The wrld’s ceans are s large in size that it's simply nt pssible t make a deep study f them by diving. S a team f scientists decided t have tiger sharks help with the research. These animals were chsen as research helpers because they spend a lt f their time in and arund seagrass meadws.
Researchers attached cameras t the fins(鳍)f seven tiger sharks. The sharks then carried the cameras and travelled fr miles ver the sea flr. The cameras were designed t fall ff after a few hurs and then flat back up t the surface. Tracking signals helped the scientists find the flating cameras and t cllect the vides the sharks had taken.
The scientists learned that the waters arund the Bahamas are hme t the largest seagrass meadw ever discvered, which culd be as large as 92,000 square kilmetres. The discvery means that the wrld has abut 40 per cent mre seagrass meadws than scientists had thught.
