Hw D Smartphnes Affect Our Sleep
Smart phnes can be addictive and may lead t prblematic use. This is even mre true fr teenagers. Smartphne addictin can als negatively affect students’ perfrmance in schl. Many studies have als shwn the prlnged screen time is bad fr ur sleep. But is it different if yu are actually addicted t yur phne? Is that mre f a prblem fr sleep than just spending time n yur screen?
We asked 1043 UK students aged between 18 t 30 t cmplete tw questinnaires. The first ne was abut the students’ smartphne use, which includes questins like whether they miss planned wrk due t smartphne use t see whether they are addicted. The secnd questinnaire assessed the quality f students’ sleep. We then analyzed the data t find if there is an assciatin between smartphne addictin and sme factrs like age, ethnicity, r gender.
Arund 39% f the students shwed several signs f smartphne addictin. It was mre prevalent amng students under 21. Prlnged use was strngly linked t addictin. Abut 54% f the students wh used their smartphnes fr mre than 5 hurs a day suffered frm addictin. Only 20% f thse wh used them fr under 2 hurs a day were addicted.
Smartphne use befre bed is als an imprtant factr. The addictin levels were high amng students wh used their phnes less than 30 minutes befre bedtime and lw amng thse wh stpped using their phnes mre than ne hur befre time.
Accrding t ur study, smartphne addictin is als related t using it in late hurs. Fr example, if yu use yur phne after 1 am, yu are three times as likely t have an addictin.
