He thught the invite-nly server wuld attract 10 r 20 peple, but hundreds requested t jin in the first few days. Nw, almst three years later, running the special versin, Autcraft, is his full-time jb. The cmmunity has nearly 7000 members, alng with a team f engineers t help manage its many activities. “Parents see such a benefit fr themselves and their children,” says Duncan.
    In Minecraft, yu use blcks f materials like wd and stne t build whatever yu like. “This is a great way fr them t play a game they lve, but als have a scial experience,” says Kate Ringland frm the University f Califrnia, wh has spent 60 hurs inside this virtual wrld, watching hw the kids play and chat t ne anther. “It’s giving an alternative way fr these kids t express themselves and cmmunicate withut the stresses f the physical life stuff.”
