    In Suth Africa, the African Penguin Nest Prject team made up f researchers and wildlife prtectrs frm arund the wrld has designed handmade ceramic (陶瓷的) nest bxes ver the last five years t prtect endangered penguins frm the warming weather caused by climate change.

Since then, many penguins have nested in the pen, expsing them t heatstrke and their eggs t their enemies. “We have put this species at risk f extinctin, mainly because f human desires,” said Shaun Welman, a zlgist at Nelsn Mandela University. The ppulatin f these seabirds in Africa has fallen frm 3 millin t 48,000 since 1900, accrding t reprts.
    But thanks t the team, mre than 1,500 ceramic nests have been made and placed acrss five different penguin clnies (群落) in Suth Africa. The structures are able t stand up t higher temperatures than traditinal hles and utperfrmed cement (水泥) and fiberglass mdels, accrding t a study c-authred by Welman.
    The ceramic nests are built by hand. The 72-hur prcess requires a high level f attentin t details t make sure the raw materials are cmbined successfully.     Having spent three years researching and testing the nests, Graham placed the first 200 structures in tw Suth African penguin clnies in 2018. Within the first mnth, researchers discvered eggs in 40%f the nests in ne clny and 25%f the nests in the ther.
    “If everything ges well and these nests cntinue t wrk, we can keep giving them hmes,” said Graham. “Each ne we build is ec-friendly.” He added, “We can’t slve the ppulatin decline with just the nests, but at least we can give them a place t raise kids.”
