Miles away frm hme, senir Nanuka Dudashvili ntices the heat f the Texas as she waits fr her hst family. Dudashvili thinks abut what they will be like and what being an exchange student will bring her later in life.
On Sept. 11, Dudashvili arrived in the U. S. as a freign exchange student frm the Republic f Gergia. S., she nticed the size and friendly envirnment f the buildings. “I was amazed by the schl. I was actually walking with a map all week,” Dudahuili said.
It wasn’t hard fr her t get cmfrtable in a new place, fr her classmates made her experience in the U. S. mre enjyable. Dudashvili’s hst parents als helped her develp sme f her favrite experiences. One f them being New Year’s since in the Republic f Gergia they dn’t bserve Christmas, her hst parents celebrated all f the traditins fr the hlidays.
Hwever, things can turn ut a little bumpy smetimes. A challenge Dudashvili faced as an exchange student was the use f technlgy in classrms. Smetimes she wuld take twice the amunt f time submitting assignments n an electrnic device than she did writing them by hand.
Dudashvili believes being a freign exchange student has cmpletely changed her life because it has helped her grw as a persn. “I always wanted t change smething in my life and I felt like this was the best thing t d, Dudashvili said, gave me everything and meant a lt t me.”

“Our cffee is lved by millins wrldwide.” D yu ften see this kind f advertising in yur cuntry? Statements like these that n ne can prve are called puffery. Puffery is legal, even thugh it cannt be prved. In fact, puffery has been called “a license t lie”, as it is regarded as an pinin rather than an bjective statement.
Using puffery t raise awareness f prducts and t increase sales, is a cmmn advertising methd. Sme peple, hwever, wrry abut puffery. One f the cncerns is whether cnsumers are misled by false advertising. Therefre, advertisements cntaining puffery smetimes can be tested in the curts, and the decisins that are made help t tell the difference between acceptable puffery and illegal advertising.
On the ne hand, if a cmpany tells the public that it sells the cuntry’s “best-lved” r “favrite” prduct, this is thught t be puffery, rather than an bjective descriptin f market share. Similarly, the cmpany des nt have t prduce prf that such puffery is actually supprted by numbers r facts. In ther wrds, advertisements such as “the wrld’s best cup f cffee” are impssible t prve. They are t gd t be true and thus it is expected that any cnsumer will understand hw subjective they are. Such advertisements are therefre nt thught f as misleading. In fact, puffery like this in these advertisements is ften cnsidered t add t the entertainment value.
On the ther hand, a cmpany that states their prducts is the “safest” r “cheapest” needs t shw prf, because statements that are bjective need t be supprted by prf r statistics. Cnsumer rights rganizatins can run tests t examine whether r nt such statements agree with the fact. Cmpanies shuld thus be very careful when making factual statements abut a prduct.
A primary functin f advertising is t create prduct awareness. As cnsumers, we need t knw abut cmpeting prducts, s we can make wise decisins n which ne t buy. While it is imprtant that advertisers are mnitred t ensure they d nt mislead cnsumers, it can be argued that puffery is a gd way f raising awareness f new prducts. As lng as there are effective ways f mnitring advertisements t prevent deliberate deceptin (欺骗) in safety and quality, it seems that mst puffery is relatively harmless. Rather, it has becme part f advertising, which mst cnsumers can laugh at rather than being misled.
8.By “Our cffee is lved by millins wrldwide”, the passage intends t __________.
    A. describe a factB. intrduce the tpic
    C. present an argumentD. prvide backgrund infrmatin

    A. describe prducts’ market shareB. raise awareness f new prducts
    C. test the advertisement in the curtsD. run tests t examine the new prducts.
10.What des the authr think f puffery?
    A. It is acceptable with effective mnitring.
    B. It is misleading fr it uses the false infrmatin.
    C. It is harmful fr it plays tricks n cnsumers.
    D. It is cnvincing fr it helps cnsumers t chse wisely.
11.Which can be the best title f this passage?
