Tens f thusands f hneybees in Spain’s Canary Islands can nw add “survived a vlcan(火山)” t their wish list.
A reprt n Saturday tld the stry f five hives(蜂箱) f hneybees that were left unattended fr abut 50 days after the eruptin(爆发) f a vlcan in La Palma. Their beekeeper had been frced t leave the area. When the beekeeper returned, he fund the hives cvered in vlcanic ash(灰).
Inside the hives, hwever, the situatin was cmpletely different. T the beekeeper’s surprise, he fund tens f thusands f live hneybees, wh had managed t carry n despite the heat and harmful gases released by the vlcan. They may have als gtten lucky because they were cvered with light ash with small hles, which allwed air t pass thrugh the hives.
