In science class, we’ve been learning abut a physicist frm Denmark called Niels Bhr. He wn the Nbel Prize fr physics in 1922. He was very clever. Let me tell yu a stry t shw yu.
As a student, Bhr was faced with a test questin abut a barmeter. The students were asked t measure the height f a building by using a barmeter. Bhr wrte that yu culd tie a piece f string t the barmeter and lwer it t the grund. The length f the string plus the length f the barmeter wuld equal the height f the building.
The teacher grading the test was very angry with the answer, “Why did yu give this answer?” he asked Bhr. “Are yu making sme kind f jke?”
“N. It isn’t a jke. My answer is crrect,” Bhr said ludly.
“I dn’t think s,” said the teacher. “I shuld fail yu immediately. G and explain yurself t the head f the science department.”
Bhr went t see the head f the science department. In his ffice, he was given five minutes t think f an explanatin. When he was asked t explain, Bhr gave many different answers t the questin. Every answer was technically (严格说来, 从技术上来说) crrect. The head f the science department was shcked that a student culd think f mre answers than he. “I can see yu’re a clever student. Can yu just give me the simplest answer?” he asked.
Bhr replied, “The best way t slve this prblem wuld be t knck n the janitr’s(管理员) dr and say t him, ‘I’ll give yu this nice barmeter if yu tell me the height f this building.’”
