Edgar Allan Pe was an American writer wh helped shape the curse f American literature. His life was full f tragedies, but he had great influence n the 19th-century American literature and cntinues t influence writers t this day.
The early life f Edgar Allan Pe was quite miserable. Brn in 1809, Pe was nt yet three years ld when his parents died. Adpted by a wealthy family, he gt int truble at schl. He entered the United States Military Academy at West Pint, but he drpped ut withut graduating. His calamity cntinued t his adult life. Later, because f a failed marriage, he suffered frm mental illness. He was s upset abut real life that he turned t writing. Expressing himself in an unreal and imaginary wrld was his nly cmfrt.
The tragedies in Pe’s life influenced the tne, style and cntents f his writing. His stries usually include death, which helps build his reputatin as a master f “dark” literature. In his The Tell-Tale Heart, the main character ges crazy and kills his rmmate, while in The Black Cat, the main character kills his cat in a fit f madness.
