Time is running ut fr cral reefs as the climate gets htter. S scientists are searching the glbe fr crals that are better at enduring heat. Nw, new research shws hw thse “super crals” can survive: less rmmate drama.
Reefs depend n a crucial partnership between the crals and the algae (海藻) that live in the crals’ tissue. The algae make fd fr the crals using sunlight and in exchange, get a nice spt t live. But when ceans heat up, that relatinship ges bad, and the crals kick the algae ut. Withut their rmmates, crals can die, turning a ghstly white, bleached (白化) clr.
Still, sme crals seem t resist bleaching better than thers. A new study shws that thse crals depend n algae that are better at tlerating heat. Researchers hpe that pinpinting these abilities will help develp new cnservatin tls t preserve the wrld’s reefs as temperatures rise, Abut 1/4 f all marine life rely n cral reefs in sme way, alng with half 1 billin peple arund the wrld als depend n reefs fr their fd and livelihds.
“Heat stress can kill a lt f crals really fast,” says Kate Quigley, a research scientist at James Ck University and the Minder Fundatin in Australia. “I hpe that nature des have sme mechanisms t get us thrugh the next few years while we get ur act tgether.”
While the hpe is that thse algae culd als aid in reef cnservatin in the future, researcher Patrick Buerger says it’s likely that it wuldn’t help all cral species. And even the tughest crals can nly endure s much. Currently, the wrld is n track fr just under 3 degrees Celsius f warming by 2100, a level that wuld wipe ut nearly all cral reefs.
“The actin has t be n climate change,” he says. “This is a shrt-term slutin that might buy sme time fr crals t adapt. But the main fcus has t be n climate. There’s nt a silver bullet t the prblem.”
28. What is the feature f super crals?
A. Heat-bearing.B. Lng-living.C. Gd-lking.D. Sun-lving.

Engineering researchers at the University f Waterl are successfully using a rbt t help keep children with learning disabilities fcusing n their wrk. In the ther grup, the students wrked ne-n-ne with an instructr and a QT. In the latter grup, the instructr used a tablet t direct the rbt, which then autnmusly perfrmed varius activities using its speech and gestures.
While the instructr cntrlled the sessins, the rbt, triggered by the instructr, tk ver at certain times t lead the students. Besides intrducing the sessin, the rbt set gals and prvided self-regulating strategies, if necessary. If the learning prcess was getting ff-track, the rbt used strategies such as games, riddles, jkes, breathing exercises and physical mvements t redirect the students back t the task.
“Students wh wrked with the rbt were generally mre engaged with their tasks and culd cmplete their tasks at a higher rate cmpared t the students wh weren’t assisted by a rbt,” Dautenhahn said. Further studies using the rbt are planned.

C. By prviding advanced knwledge.
D. By acting as learning cmpanins.
33. What makes QT fit fr students with learning disabilities?
A. Its cnvenience t use.B. The ppularity f rbts.
C. Its ability t make gestures.D. The lw cst in making QT.
34. Which f the fllwing can best replace the underlined part “triggered” in paragraph 5?
A. picked upB. set ffC. taken utD. brught in
35. What can be the best title fr the text?
A. A number f students suffer frm learning disabilities
B. A rbt can prvide self-regulating strategies fr students
C. A rbt has a great ptential in the public educatin system
D. A rbt helps students with learning disabilities stay fcused

M: The mst unfrgettable experience I’ve ever had? Well, that was three years ag when I was in cllege, I spent a term studying in Lndn. Even thugh we speak the same language, English peple and Americans are very different. They think that we Americans are friendly and that we have a strng desire t be successful and rich. And I think the British are quiet and gentle. I lve the lifestyle there. Ging ut fr afternn tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really lve the ld buildings. We dn’t have anything that ld in the United States, s it is pretty amazing! By the way, I als went t Australia nce. The buildings there aren’t s attractive either. The British als have a different sense f humr. Their cmedy shws n TV are really funny. I’d like t say my experience was a psitive ne. In fact, I’m saving up mney s I can g back there again.
