At the end of the third term, we had a celebration at our school. We played a game of dodgeball (躲避球). It was our first dodgeball game since the quarantine (隔离) came to an end in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Dodgeball is a game played by two teams of people. Both teams try to hit each other with dodgeballs. The team that the most players are left on the court (球场) wins.
I was on the red team. Our competitor, the green team, had many experienced players. So it was not a good start for us at first. We lost many important teammates, while only a few of their unimportant players was knocked out. I got knocked out early as well.
Surprisingly, the rest of teammates tried to knock out a number of our competitors, leaving the green team with fewer numbers.
In our dodgeball game, we didn’t need to completely knock out the other team. All we needed was just to have our last members try their best to avoid being hit at the last five minutes! I shouted: “Guys! Just keep your eyes on them and dodge (躲开)! We have more people on the court! Time is on our side!” The plan worked: All of our members saved, winning the match when the last whistle (哨声) blew.
Dodgeball, while being a seriously fun and competitive sport, also requires critical thinking (批判性思维). If I learned anything from that game, it was that my brain can get me out of a lot of difficult situations.

A. the introduction of the team B. our first dodgeball game

Stooping (弯腰), the practice of hunting down and picking up waste goods on city sidewalks, has become popular in big Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and Shenzhen.
A young man nicknamed Luo Ergou recently rode a second-hand electric bike through hutongs in Beijing, in search of valuable goods that had been thrown. As a skilled sidewalk searcher, he knows where and when to hunt. Luo went through hutongs two or three days a week and focuses on rubbish bins, street corners, or doorsteps of people who are moving the house or decorating their homes. As he gets more experience, he can discover unwanted things from local people’s homes.
Stoopers turn street finds into things they need. For example, Luo has ever turned a headboard he recycled (回收) into a cat toilet.
And for stoopers who are also renters (租客), they need to find out whether they actually need the finds. “I got some sidewalk finds for free. So when I move out of my old apartment, I will leave the things I no longer want in the house for the next renter. I can fill my new apartment with new sidewalk finds,” Boniu, a woman from Shanghai, said. Sometimes, she found that she didn’t need all the things, so she shared photos of them online, in the hope that someone would take them and give them a new home. Because of it, she has attracted over 20000 followers on Xiaohongshu.
One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Although some have criticized (批评) sidewalk stoopers like Luo and Boniu as being nothing more than attention seekers, that does not upset them. They think it is the older people’s tradition of hard work.

A team of Volkswagen (大众) designers and engineers developed a high-tech office chair that you can drive at a top speed of 12mph (20km/h).
Most high-tech office chairs simply prevent either water or kinds of pollution, or they are designed at a higher standard, especially about ergonomics (人类工程学). But Volkswagen’s recent take on a high-tech office chair shows just how low the standard is at the present.
The German car producer designed an office chair with a built-in motor and controls allowing the user to drive it at a top speed of 12mph. And that’s just one of the crazy ideas that built into this one-of-a-kind piece of office furniture (家具).
The main goal of this project was to put many smart parts that were found in a real Volkswagen car into an office chair, and the team did a truly excellent job.
Not only did they manage to put in a real motor and driving controls, but also a seat belt, honk, built-in speakers, and even tiny parts for the chair wheels.
The futuristic office chair also comes with 360-degree collision prevention sensors (感应器), a backup camera, a touchscreen display, headlights built into the armrests, LED party lights, USB charging, a small pocket for storing documents and the WV logo added into the headrest.
If you’re wondering about self-acting driving, Volkswagen says that its high-tech office chair comes with an exchangeable battery (电池), which offers a list of around 12km on a single charge.
