I woke up this morning, excited but anxious, as today was the day I would begin my journey of senior high school.
The school I attended is an all-female boarding school, which is the only single-sex school in this city. Some people say single-sex schools are better than mixed-sex ones in that they have classes specially designed for their male or female students. I am curious to know what such a school looks like. Thousands of thoughts flashed through my mind. Will I fit in? Will I make friends? Will I have nice teachers? What if I make a bad impression on the other girls? What if I can’t concentrate in class as I did in junior high?
After breakfast, I set off with Mom sitting beside me and Dad driving the car. We were warmly received by a group of seniors at the school gate. I said goodbye to Mom and Dad there. Some of the seniors helped take my suitcase(手提箱) to the dorm (宿舍), where I met my three roommates, Sally, Laura and Amanda. Only two of us have Chinese nationality while Sally is Korean and Laura American, who impressed me most with her beautiful eyes and sweet smile.
Since we had no classes in the morning, the four of us decided to explore our campus. Our school is beautiful with tall trees, bright flowers, nice-looking grassland and buildings of the southern Chinese style. A bulletin board (宣传栏) we passed by shows a lot of activity photos and says “With more than 50 student organizations on campus, there is a community for every interest”. I took a photo of the name list of the organizations so that I could study them carefully this weekend before I choose to register with some. I am looking forward to improving myself through group activities.
24.What is special about the school the author attends?
A.It is the best school in the city.
B.It is better than mixed-sex schools.
C.It has classes only for male students.
D.It has only female students.
25.How did the author come to school?
A.All by herself.
B.With her three roommates.
C.With her parents keeping her company.
D.With some seniors carrying her suitcase.
26.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Their exploration of the campus.
B.The landscape of the school.
C.A bulletin board.
D.Student organizations.
27.The paragraph following the text might talk about ________.
A.what activities would be held
B.what happened that afternoon
C.how to get along with roommates
D.how to study in senior high school

When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied (欺凌) at school. I felt completely alone in my small town.
But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive change.
28.What was the author’s life like when he was 12?
A.Boring. B.Peaceful. C.Painful. D.Meaningful.
29.How did the volunteer work benefit the author?
A.It made him popular in his town.
B.It helped him find the meaning of life.
C.It helped him understand others’ lives better.
D.It helped to shape his dream career.
30.Why did the author choose writing as his job?
A.He was inspired by his teacher.
B.He could pass positive energy to readers.
C.He wanted to share his school experiences.
D.He found he had a talent for writing.
31.What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph?
A.Say “no” to bullies bravely.
B.Make positive changes in their lives.
C.Treat others with kindness in daily life.
D.Learn to care more about others’ feelings.

Some high school students think it useless to receive higher education. Therefore, they choose not to go to college. If you're one of them, think again. Here are some reasons why you should go to college and receive a good education there.
Schools and universities are the first places to get knowledge. We take that knowledge later on to build our careers after graduation. More knowledge will be gained after you start working, but without education, that job will not be within easy reach. Knowledge leads to knowledge.
While limited within the walls of the educational places, we openly explore other cultures of the world! We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable things to share, enriching our own. Education also makes us want to travel and exchange with various cultures, getting more experience.
When there's a recession in the economy(经济), those who attended college will be more likely to find a new job than those who only finished high school and have a limited skills set. The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn a higher salary.
When you're skillful and knowledgeable, you gain access to people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.
A good education makes you a more interesting person. You can talk about ideas and events instead of just other people and what's on sale in stores. An educated person doesn't gossip(说闲话), having a preference to discuss ideas and listen to what other people have to say.
32.What can we learn about college education from Paragraph 2?
A.It offers you a chance to study abroad.
B.It can allow you to gain more knowledge.
C.It can improve the quality of your daily life.
D.It encourages you to travel around the world.
33.What does the underlined word "recession" in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.change. B.drop. C.growth. D.support.
34.How can one benefit from a good education ?
A.You can gossip about others’ affairs. B.You are likely to study well at school.
C.You can work well with your coworkers. D.You get to know excellent people with similar interests.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The benefits of attending college. B.The exchange with other cultures.

I was getting more nervous, and each second felt like a century.
“Number seventeen.” the coach called out. Hearing it, I jumped right away from my seat. And I ran over to stand next to the girls who had been chosen to be cheerleaders. We smiled and hugged each other because we became members of the 10girl cheerleading team.
During the following days, I and the other nine cheerleaders practiced for the performance. We were dressed in our blue uniforms before the upcoming sports meet. It was going to be held on a Friday morning. However, the night before the sports meet, I got very nervous, and worried what if I made a mess in the performance. I tried to comfort myself, “You can make it. Just calm down and relax.” The next morning, my parents left home for work and I hurried to go to school.
Unluckily, when I arrived at school, I found the other nine cheerleaders were all in their white uniforms. But I was still in my blue uniform. At once I realized I had made a mistake: wearing the wrong uniform. There was not much time left before the cheerleading performance started. What should I do? Both my team members and the coach were worried. Then a cheerleader called Tammy offered to help me. She said, “My home is quite close to our school.Maybe I could give my mother a call. She is at home now. She could drive Jane to her home, so Jane can change her uniform quickly.”

46.Dear David,
How is everything going on with you? Glad to receive your letter wondering about my high school life, I’m writing to share it with you.
Our school is located in the center of our city. Equipped with all kinds of facilities, our school looks beautiful as well as modern. Here, my classmates and the teachers are really friendly and helpful. As for my study at senior high, I think the courses at senior high are more difficult and challenging than those at junior high. In class, we are encouraged not only to share our opinions with group members and but also to solve problems by ourselves, which, in my opinion, is more beneficial.
I enjoy my life at senior high, though struggling sometimes. Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua

The coach allowed Tammy to give it a try. Then Tammy called her mother and explained what was going on. Her mother immediately agreed to help me. When we reached my home, I quickly changed my uniform and ran out to Tammy’s mother’s car. We had just fifteen minutes left before the performance started. Luckily, we arrived there in time. “I can’t thank you enough.” I told Tammy’s mother as I got out of the car. She smiled and waved goodbye.
I joined the other girls for the cheerleading performance. Joyfully, everything went all right as I tried to perform as well as I could. But when the cheerleading performance was near the end, I suddenly fell down. I became nervous about it, but my team members didn’t get angry at me. Instead, they came to help me immediately. That day, in some way I made a mess in the performance, but the other girls offered me their warm hearts. I was so touched.
