A report has shown that many people look at their mobile phones when crossing the road. When they focus on their screens, they won’t notice the surrounding environment. That’s why you often see traffic accidents in many places.
Recently, hundreds of pedestrians (行人) in Tianjin have been punished for looking at their phones or other devices(设备) while crossing the road. Since Jan. 1, the government has been setting rules to control such behavior and has punished at least 345 pedestrians. The rules stipulate that distracted(思想不集中的) pedestrians first receive a warning or possibly a fine of 50 yuan if they refuse to correct it.
The warning is not a simple reminder, just like verbal persuasion(言语劝说), but it is a legal(合法的) process with a legal punishment notice. Those who refuse to solve it with the traffic police or whose behaviors have harmed other people’s traffic safety will be fined 50 yuan.
The new rule is aimed at raising people’s sense in safety when they focus on their screens while walking.
There is a rising number of people who focus on their screens while crossing roads, which raises the risk of traffic accidents. And the strict measures in traffic management are improving pedestrian safety, as the traffic death has dropped by 10 percent year-on-year on average (平均). More measures are in great need to help protect local people’s lives. Many people have shown their support for the rules on social media.
36.Why do traffic accidents often happen in many places?
A.Because the screens on the road are attractive.

    A. B. C. D.
38.The underlined word “stipulate” in Paragraph 2 means ________ in Chinese.
    A.规定 B.调查
    C.推进 D.推测
39.What’s the aim of the government to set such a rule?
    A.It’s for verbal persuasion.
    B.It’s for the legal process.
C.It’s only for punishing pedestrians who read mobile phones while walking.
D.It’s for reminding the danger when people focus on their screens while walking.
40.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A.We must express our support for the rules on social media.
B.We should not be distracted by our mobile phones when crossing the road.
C.The strict measures in traffic management are good for improving pedestrian safety.
D.More and more people prefer focusing on their screens while they walk across the road.

There have always been differences between one generation and the next. We call this the generation gap(代沟). In the past, these differences were mainly about clothes or music. Nowadays, differences in the use of technology are also creating a gap.
Today’s teenagers were born in the digital age and are the first generation to grow up with new technology. Computers, the Internet, e-mails, smartphones and text messaging are all part of their everyday lives.
But how do these create the generation gap? Well, young people today are sometimes called “digital natives(原住民)” because they are “native speakers” of the new language of computers and the Internet. In the same way, old people are called “digital immigrants(移民)”. They grew up without digital technology and now have to learn this new “digital language”. Scientists think that when a language is learned later in life, it goes into a different part of the brain. This means that young and old people think and process information differently because their brains are organized in different ways.
As teenagers are more likely to use lots of different technologies in their daily lives, they can often do three things at the same time. A study discovered that most teenagers can fit 44 hours of activity into just one day! Teenagers are better at multitasking(多任务处理) than their parents because their brains are organized differently.
So the next time your mom doesn’t understand how you can talk on your phone, use your computer, and listen to your CD player at the same time, tell her that it’s the “generation gap” and that you’re “multitasking”!
41.What is creating a gap between two generations nowadays? ________
    A.Clothes. B.Music.
    C.Technology. D.Culture.

    A.the difference
    B.the use of technology
    C.the information
D.the language learned later in life
    44.From Paragraph 4, we can infer ________.
A.young people are good at multitasking
B.most teenagers can rest 44 hours in one day
C.old people’s brains are organized differently
D.teenagers never use technologies in their daily lives
45.What can be the best title for the text? ________
    A.The Multitasking System
    B.The New Generation Gap
    C.Creating a New Gap
    D.Different Ages, Different Brains

    四、阅读还原5选5
    Believe in Yourself
These days, short videos, TV programs and young idols(偶像) are all over the place. They keep trying to tell us what the “greatest” fashion is. 46
Often, teenagers use fashion to make friends and get likes (获赞). However, sometimes some teenagers pick out others that aren’t wearing the latest clothes and shoes and laugh at them. 47
Dr. Jensen, a professor from Western Illinois University, says there are some signs that a child might have fashion anxiety(焦虑). They become picky(挑剔的) about what clothes they wear and what clothes they will buy.
Dr. Mary Bousted, an educator, said, “It can be just from a look that a child receives. Schools should be places where all children feel that they are the same, but it is almost impossible to be like that. 48 ”
What Not to Wear, a television show, sets a terrible example. Each week two “designers” go on the street and tell someone how bad he or she looks. Then they tell this person how to look “better”. People are angry about the show. A comment(评论) got many likes, “ 49 But the designers think they are the only people who understand what being beautiful is. That’s the problem!”
50 If you are able to wear something with confidence, you are already a very fashionable person.
