Every morning at dog parks, you can find many people sitting and chatting with one another as their dogs run and chase each other around. Dog parks have become quite hot since 2009.
Dog parks sound like a good idea. According to a survey, 91 percent of Americans believe dog parks give dogs safe places to exercise. These parks, they say, also allow dogs to socialize(交际). However, are dog parks as good for dogs as people think? Many dog experts(专家), including myself, have a different voice to offer.
To start with, “dog socialization” isn’t just dogs “socializing” with other dogs. Instead, it is the process of puppies(小狗) under 20 weeks going through new experiences. This process helps them to have more confidence. Dog parks are not safe places to “socialize” a young dog. An energetic, noisy greeter at the park may be enough to cause it to be afraid of everything. A park setting also allows dogs to pick up bad habits from one another.
Yet one of the biggest dangers of dog parks is that most dogs there don’t receive vaccines(疫苗). Some dog parks look clean, but it is still easy for dogs to spread diseases to each other. Moreover, dog parks often allow large and small dogs to be together. Sometimes, a large dog may easily hurt a smaller one seriously.
To conclude, it is far safer and more fun for your dog to keep away from dog parks and spend that time with you. You can also take your puppy to puppy classes. They are much better places for dogs to socialize than dog parks. There, your dog can meet playmates of similar ages.
29.What does the underlined word it refer to in Paragraph 3?
A.A noisy dog. B.A young dog. C.An energetic dog. D.A sick dog.

A.The rules of the dog parks. B.The risks of the dog parks.
C.The safety tips from the dog parks. D.The new experiences in the dog parks.
31.The purpose of this passage is to ________.
A.expect dog parks to have a stronger and better management
B.call on dog parks to offer different classes to different dogs
C.encourage more dog owners to take their dogs to dog parks
D.advise dog owners to find other ways to help dogs socialize
Characters: Fern Mrs.Arable Mr.Arable
“Where’s Papa going with that ax(斧头)?” said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast.
“Out to the pig house,” replied Mrs.Arable.“Some pigs were born last night.”
“I don’t see why he needs an ax,” continued Fern, who was only eight.
“Well,” said her mother, “one of the pigs is very small and weak, and it is useless. So your father has decided to do away with it.”
“Do away with it?” shrieked Fern. “You mean kill it? Just because it’s smaller than the others?”
“Don’t well, Fern!” she said. “Your father is right. The pig would die anyway.”
Fern pushed a chair out of the way and ran outdoors. “Please don’t kill it!” she cried. “It’s unfair.”
Mr. Arable stopped walking.
“Fern,” he said gently, “you will have to learn to control yourself.”
“Control myself?” yelled Fern. “________, and you talk about controlling myself.” Tears ran down her cheeks and she tried to pull the ax out of her father’s hand.

“But it’s unfair,” cried Fern. “The pig couldn’t help being born small, could it? If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me?”
Mr. Arable smiled.“Certainly not,” he said, looking down at his daughter with love.“But this is different. A little girl is one thing, a little weak pig is another.”
“I see no difference,” replied Fern, “This is the most terrible case of injustice I have ever heard of.”
A strange look came over John Arable’s face. He seemed almost ready to cry himself.
“All right,” he said. “You go back to the house and I will bring the weak pig when I come in. I’ll let you start it on a bottle, like a baby. Then you’ll see what trouble a pig can be.”
When Mr. Arable returned to the house half an hour later, he carried a carton under his arm.
“Put it on her chair!” said Mrs. Arable.
As Fern came closer to her chair, the carton shook a little, and there was some noise. Fern looked at her father. Then she lifted the lid of the carton. There, inside, looking up at her, was the newborn pig.

Space exploration is getting more and more popular and more money is spent on it. So what do you think—is space exploration a waste of money or is it worth it?
Yes—exploring space brings many advantages
It might sound very expensive but space exploration only takes up a tiny part of government spending in the case of US space agency NASA, about 0.4%. Space exploration has helped us to learn more about the universe and brought different countries together. Space programmes actually help create jobs and drive the inventions of new technologies. Above all, space encourages special feelings of awe(敬畏) and satisfies human curiosity. Climate change(气候变化) makes it necessary for people to find another planet to live on instead of depending only on the Earth.
No—it wastes much-needed resources
The cost of space exploration can only be described as huge. The cost of NASA may have gone down since the 1960s, when humans landed on the Moon, but it’s still not exactly small—$24 billion for 2022. It’s not wise to spend billions on space when there are still many people without enough money to live on. Moreover, new inventions of technologies surely would have been invented no matter what happens. The best way to deal with climate change is spending as much as possible in protecting the Earth. Moreover, with 95% of the world’s oceans yet to be developed, there’s more than enough to satisfy human curiosity.
Space exploration is a hot topic. Many people discuss 56 we should spend so much money exploring space or not. Some people believe that space exploration is worth the money. First, space exploration isn’t actually as 57 as it sounds — it takes up only a small part of government spending. It helps us learn more and brings countries together. Second, it helps create jobs and leads to new inventions. Third, humans can not depend on the Earth forever because of climate change. They n 58 to find another planet to live on. However, people are not in 59 . Some consider that it’s not wise to spend so much on space when so many people are in need of necessities. What’s more, many inventions of new technologies would have happened anyway. Finally, humans should put resources into protecting 60 and the Earth instead of giving it up. So what’s your opinion—is space a waste of money or is it worth it?

根据第三段“ Dog parks are not safe places to“socialize”a young dog. An energetic, noisy greeter at the park may be enough to cause it to be afraid of everything. ”可知,狗狗公园不是让小狗“社交”的安全场所,公园里一个充满活力、吵闹的迎宾员可能会让它害怕一切。此处it指代的是前句提到的young dog。故选B。
30.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Yet one of the biggest dangers of dog parks is that most dogs there don’t receive vaccines”可知,然而狗狗公园最大的危险是大部分狗都没有接种疫苗。
根据最后一段“To conclude, it is far safer and more fun...similar ages.”

根据“...said Fern to her mother as they were setting the table for breakfast.”可知,Fern一家他们正在摆桌子吃早饭;根据“Fern pushed a chair out of the way and ran outdoors.”可知,Fern推开一把椅子,跑到户外;根据“‘Please don’t kill it!’ she cried. ‘It’s unfair.’”以及“‘Fern,’ he said gently, ‘you will have to learn to control yourself.’”可知,Fern在和爸爸争论;根据“Then she lifted the lid of the carton.”
根据“So your father has decided to do away with it.”以及“...and you talk about controlling myself.”
