Many people think that TV programs have little or no educational value (价值). It is true that lots of programs are meaningless. However, some programs are good and we can learn many things from them. Here are a few of my favorite programs.
Blue Peter
When I was a child, this was the only program I could watch. I watched it three times a week. You can learn about different countries around the world from it. As the show is for children, the language in it is easy.
The Great British
Bake Off
This show is about making bread, cakes and so on. The show wants to find Britain’s best amateur baker(业余烘焙师). You can watch the show to get some ideas of new things to try baking and you can always find the recipes online.
Frozen Planet
This one is about life in cold places. There are many special animals in this show. I love this show not because of the cute animals, but because it teaches us about the impact we have on these animals and what we need to do to save them.
Pointless

He placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the place his wife was lying in. His wife had just died. He turned to me and said, “Never save something for a special day. Every day in your life is special.”

Anger isn’t a good feeling. Anger may make us feel uncomfortable, but it’s also normal. Unluckily, many of us have been used to keeping our feelings hidden. A research suggests that this can have long-term bad influences(影响) on our health.
Is it better to cry or break things whenever something makes us angry? The research points out that when we show our anger in this way, we can’t probably get on well with our friends and our family. The more time we keep being angry, the worse result we’ll get. So how can we deal with our angry feelings in a right way?
First, know what makes us angry. Anger is often caused by feelings of fear, disappointment and so on.
Also, pay closer attention to those everyday things that will make us angry. We may get angry in the long lines at the store. Take a step back and consider that it isn’t personal. Everyone in the line has dinner to make, just like us.
One way of dealing with(处理) anger is to talk about it. The study has shown that if we name our feelings, we can actually calm ourselves down and feel better.

Now people around the world celebrate(庆祝)Friendship Day. Do you know the stories behind it?
An American woman, Joyce Hall, sold cards. In 1930, she got the idea of Friendship Day. She thought if people had a new day to celebrate, they would buy more cards. Many Americans gave cards and other gifts to their friends on the day. However, they stopped doing it because they didn’t want to see it become commercialized(商业化的). In1935, the US Congress(国会)decided to make it the first Sunday of August. It became a day to honor(尊重)true friends.
The story behind Friendship Day is different in Paraguay. In 1958, a group of friends in Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay decided to celebrate friendship on July 30 every year. One man in the group, Ramon Artemio Bracho, wanted to do more. He worked hard to start celebrations in other countries. Thanks to(多亏了)Ramon’s work, more countries took up the idea. In 2011, the United Nations declared(联合国宣布)July 30 the International Day of Friendship. On that day, there are activities in different countries, like fun runs and friendly games.

十一、阅读信息摘录
Being young is about all the good things in life — good looks and good health. But being young is also about some bad things — being lazy or being irresponsible(不负责的). It seems people think more about their bad things, so they wouldn’t like to make friends with young people.
But when it comes to Generation Z, those born(出生)between 1996 and 2010, that seems not to be true. Gen-Zers work harder than people have thought. For example, a study by Bank of America shows more than half of the young people aged between 18 and 23 in America are thinking about buying a house in five years. And they’re not just saying it. To make this dream come true, they’d like to get two or three jobs and save money, not just spending it on food, clothes or vacations. Although they’re young, they are thinking about how to make their dreams come true.
Gen-Zers not only care about themselves, they also care a lot about many other things. They think they should help change the world and make it better. In India, for example, as soon as young people are old enough, they will vote for(选举)new country leaders who can deal with(处理)the problems that are important to most of them, such as women’s jobs.
Gen-Zers do different things in different countries. But all in all, they are not the same as people have always thought of them. As a Gen-Zer yourself in China, what is your dream?
