My work started in 2003 at my local animal shelter’s Adoption Department. It seems like such a long time ago. In the 13 years that have passed, more than 50,000 animals have passed the doors of the shelter. Most of them, I do not remember. But occasionally there are animals who stand out. Tabby was one such animal.
Tabby was one of the many homeless dogs. What’s more, she was blind and deaf. Tabby’s chances at adoption seemed remote at best. But one day a woman named Loretta came to the shelter. Her son, Gary, who suffered from epilepsy(癫痫)had seen Tabby’s picture on the shelter’s website. They were interested in meeting her! Most boys would want a puppy, a dog who could grow with him and run through grassy fields on summer days. Tabby would never be able to do that. But as they say, “love is blind.” After meeting her, they decided to adopt Tabby!
If Tabby’s story had simply ended with her successful adoption, it would still have been something very special indeed but it was what happened after her adoption that some might label as “magical”. As Gary and Tabby did everything together, they became so “in tun” with one another that Tabby began to telegraph Gary’s seizures(疾病发作)before they occurred, giving his family a warning that one was about to strike. What’s more, Gary seemed to be having fewer and fewer seizures since Tabby’s arrival.
How could it be? There are some things that happen in this world that challenge all logic and understanding. Sometimes the best that we can do is to accept a miracle, which we didn’t attempt to explain. Because when you try to explain it, you lose the beauty and wonder of it all.
24.What is the purpose of listing the data in the first paragraph?
A.To stress the necessity of protecting animals.
B.To show the author’s devotion to adopting animals.
    C.To illustrate Tabby’s uniqueness.
D.To prove the difficulty of the work in the animal shelter.
25.What can we learn about Tabby from the text?
A.She was so lovely that she could be easily adopted.
    B.She suffered a lot from the disease-epilepsy.
C.She was so strong that she could run very fast.
D.She was homeless and couldn’t see or hear.
26.Why did the author think magic happened?
A.Because Gary and Tabby did everything together.
B.Because Gary was cured in the company of Tabby.
C.Because Tabby could indicate a seizure before it struck.
D.Because Tabby learned to read messages by telegraph.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Love is Blind: An Amazing Dog B.Give Me Food: My Dear Master
C.Love is Everywhere: Poor Tabby D.Take Me Home: My Dear Boy

Nobody wants to snack on plastic bags or soda rings, but according to a recent study from the University of Neweastle, we could be consuming roughly a credit card's worth of plastic every week.
Microplastic, which are less than a quarter-inch size and come in various shapes, have polluted the natural world and infiltrated(渗入)our bodies. The first clue to microplastic exposure in humans came around 2013, when scientists discovered plastic particles in seafood prepared for consumption. But in 2019, when the University of Newcastle study was published, the scientific community understood that the problem was considerably broader. Microplastics shed off clothes and tires and have been found in beer, honey, table salt and other food items. We breathe in plastic staying in the air and drink plastic floating in our drinks. It's no stretch to conclude that our exposure is significant. What we don't know is what this means for us.
The amount of evidence collected on this subject is growing rapidly, according to Scott Coffin, a toxicologist(毒理学家). Studies done on mice and rats have found that plastic in their bodies can severely damage cells and cause stress.
Because microplastics are too small to clean up, the only solution is to stop plastic waste at the source. And doing so would take a thorough adjustment, given that plastics are deeply embedded in our economy and lifestyle. Stopping using them would fundamentally affect countless industries, including textiles(纺织业), transportation and manufacturing.
"I think we need to have more studies coming out that are directly related to human health before we see a lot more concern from the general public," Scott said. "It takes a lot to convince people that something that is really convenient for them to use is something they should sacrifice."
The question of microplastics and human health needs more attention—from the scientific community ,the general public, the government and funding groups. The issue isn't being ignored, but it's not being prioritized either.
28.What does the second paragraph mainly tell us about microplastics?
A.Their wide usage in daily life.
    B.Their harm to human health.
    C.Their significant exposure in humans.
D.The new study conducted on them.
29.What does the underlined part "this subject" refer to?
    A.The way that microplastics exist.
    B.The pollution caused by microplastics.
C.The relationship between microplastics and human health.
D.The reason for the existence of microplastics.
30.How to solve the problem according to Scott?
    A.To cut down plastic production.
B.To carry out more studies on mice and rats.
C.To invent something more convenient than plastics.
D.To promote people's awareness on the harm brought by microplastics.
31.Which of the following is a suitable title for the passage?
A.Is Microplastic pollution harmful to our health?
    B.Why is Microplastic pollution everywhere?
    C.Why is plastic harmful?
D.What do you know about Microplastics?

    Does happiness have a scent?

When someone is happy, can you smell it?
You can usually tell when someone is happy based on seeing them smile, heating them laugh or perhaps from receiving a big hug. But can you also smell their happiness? Surprising new research suggests that happiness does indeed have a scent, and that the experience of happiness can be transmitted through smell, reports Phys.org.
For the study, 12 young men were shown videos meant to bring about a variety of emotions while researchers gathered sweat samples from them. All of the men were healthy and none of them were drug users or smokers, and all were asked to abstain from drinking or eating smelly foods during the study period.
Those sweat samples were then given to 36 equally healthy young women to smell, while researchers monitored their reactions. Only women were selected to smell the samples, apparently because previous research has shown that women have a better sense of smell than men and are also more sensitive to emotional signaling—though it's unclear why only men were chosen to produce the scents.
Researchers found that the behavior of the women after smelling the scents--particularly their facial expressions--indicated a relationship between the emotional states of the men who produced the sweat and the women who sniffed them.
"Human sweat produced when a person is happy brings about a state similar to happiness in somebody who breathes this smell," said study co-author Gun Semin, a professor at Koc University in Turkey.
This is a fascinating finding because it not only means that happiness does have a scent, but that the scent is capable of transmitting the emotion to others. The study also found that other emotions, such as fear, seem to carry a scent too. This ensures previous research suggesting that some negative emotions have a smell, but it is the first time this has proved to be true of positive feelings.
Researchers have yet to isolate(分离) exactly what the chemical compound for the happiness smell is, but you might imagine what the potential applications for such a finding could be. Happiness perfumes, for instance, could be invented. Scent therapies  (香味疗法) could also be developed to help people through depression or anxiety.
Perhaps the most surprising result of the study, however, is our broadened understanding of how emotions get communicated, and also how our own emotions are potentially managed through our social context and the emotional states of those around us.
32.What is the main finding of the new research?
    A.Men produce more sweats.
    B.Negative emotions have a smell.
C.Pleasant feelings can be smelt out.
D.Women have a better sense of smell.
33.The underlined part "abstain from" in Paragraph 3 probably means _______.
    A.avoid B.practice
    C.continue D.try
34.What is the application value of the new research?
A.Perfumes could help people understand each other.
B.Some smells could be developed to better our mood.
C.Perfumes could be produced to cure physical diseases.
D.Some smells could be created to improve our appearance.
35.We can learn from the last paragraph that _______.
A.happiness comes from a scent of sweat
    B.positive energy can deepen understanding
    C.people need more emotional communication
D.social surroundings can influence our emotions

    Healthy See, Healthy Do
Visit the grocery store on an empty stomach, and you will probably come home with a few things you did not plan to buy. But hunger is not the only cause of additional purchases. The location of store displays (摆放) also influences our shopping choices. 36
The checkout area is a particular hotspot for junk food. Studies have found that the products most commonly found there are sugary and salty snacks. 37 A 2012 study in the Netherlands found that hospital workers were more likely to give up junk food for healthy snacks when the latter were more readily available on canteen shelves, for example. In 2014 Norwegian and Icelandic researchers also found that replacing unhealthy foods with healthy ones in the checkout area significantly increased last-minute sales of healthier foods.
38 It has been working with more than 1,000 store owners to encourage them to order and promote nutritious foods. “We know that the stores are full of cues (暗示) meant to encourage consumption,” says Tamar Adjoian, a research scientist at the department, “Making healthy foods more convenient or appealing can lead to increased sales of those products.”
Adjoian and her colleagues wondered if such findings would apply to their city’s crowded urban checkout areas, so they selected three Bronx supermarkets for their own study. 39 Then they recorded purchases over six three-hour periods in each store for two weeks.
Of the more than 2,100 shoppers they observed, just 4 percent bought anything from the checkout area. Among those who did, however, customers in the healthy lines purchased nutritious foods more than twice as often as those in the standard lines. 40 The findings were reported in September in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.
The potential influence may seem small, but Adjoian believes that changing more checkout lines would open customers’ eyes to nutritious, lower-calorie foods. Health department officials are now exploring ways to expand healthy options at checkout counters throughout New York City.
A.These foods give people more energy.
B.They bought unhealthy foods 40 percent less often.
C.And it may make or break some healthy eating habits.
D.The supermarkets began to offer nutritious, lower-calorie foods.
E.These findings caught the attention of New York City Department of Health.
F.They replaced candies and cookies with fruits and nuts near the checkout counter.
G.And a few studies have suggested that simply swapping in healthier options can change customer behavior.

For the past five years, I have been writing a book. It is almost 41 and now it is time for my publisher and me to agree on a title. It has not gone 42 .
The book is about a 43 day in history, a date 44 at random. My idea is that there is no such thing as a(n) “ 45 ” day. If you 46 deeply enough into the events of any 24 hours, you will find enough drama, humor and so on. I always 47 that the book would be titled “One Day,” with three 48 drawn from the hat “12/28/1986.”
49 that is clearly not how things are done anymore. Publishers believe books must have subtitles; the more wordy, the 50 .
This wasn't my first such 51 . Years ago, I wrote a book about dogs. The title was to be "Old Dogs," for that was what the book was about. On the cover would be a 52 of an old dog, connecting with the 53 elegantly. But the publisher insisted on a subtitle. The 54 came out thus: "OLD DOGS: Are the best dogs. "Whenever I see it, I feel embarrassed. This 55 me wondering what old book covers would have been like in the new age.
    41.A.exposed B.written C.finished D.gone
    42.A.fairly B.naturally C.freely D.smoothly

58 (bear)in Canada in 1861, he first worked at a special sports school in the USA.One day the school principal told James he was having a problem with the students. Because of heavy snow, the students could not go outside. He told James that they needed a sport that the boys could play indoors and gave him two week 59 (think)of something.
It was 60 the very last day that James came up with his idea. The “birth of basketball” is said to be on December 21, 1891, when two teams from the school played the 61 (one)game.
It was eight o'clock on a May morning, and Micah, my 17-year-old daughter, was in our bonus room upstairs. It had been her temporary eleventh-grade classroom ever since schools had moved to remote learning due to the pandemic (疫情).
From the kitchen, I listened for the sound of her tapping on her laptop. I resisted the urge to check on her. Way too often, Micah was texting friends and commenting on their posts about the fun they were having together. We'd barely left the house for 10 weeks straight.
"Mom, everyone is hanging out today!" Micah's voice came from upstairs. "Why can't I?"
I went up the stairs. Micah was lying on the floor wearing pajamas(睡衣), her laptop, school iPad and cell phone in front of her. "It's not fair," she said. I have no one I can be with. I can't wait until I'm 18 and can do what I want."
We'd had this conversation before. Still, I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I was sick of having to stay at home too. Even though Micah and I were home together more than we had been in years, we might as well have been living in separate worlds. "Wanna watch TV later?" I asked. "No, thanks." Micah shook her head.
"In a few weeks you'll be going to sports camp,'' I added "That's something you can look forward to." I closed the door. I was used to Micah's rejection, but it still hurt. Teenage independence is heathy, but I worried if I didn't find a way to bond with my girl soon, I might never be close with her again. She'd be 18 in the fall and had already convinced herself she didn't need me anymore. Maybe she was right. No matter what I did, I couldn't seem to reach her.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
That evening, I was surfing online and saw a friend's children playing with their new cat.

W: Well, I’m thinking of going on with my studies. My dream is to become a teacher, and I need a related degree for it.
M: Then which university would you like to go to?
W: I haven’t made up my mind yet.
M: Do you have any idea what you are going to teach?
W: I can’t tell for sure now. Perhaps art or singing and dancing. You know, I always like being with young students. That way, I’ll always feel young myself.
M: That sounds quite similar to what I’d like to do. If being with young people will make you feel young, then helping people build up their physical strength will keep me strong and healthy.
W: Yes, I agree with you. Hope our dreams will come true.

W: It’s easy for parents to get worried about their kids being left behind. But the truth is, two-year-olds don’t need a computer. Early-childhood experts agree that two-year-olds need experience in the real first. At about three and a half, most children can learn to handle the mouse. At this age, kids may not need a computer, but they’ll enjoy it. And they’ll learn from it, often in unforeseen ways. Judy Salpeter, San Francisco, California, editor of Technology and Learning, remembers that when her son was three, he loved a paint-box program that allowed him to position stamps of little figures on the screen. One day, she overheard him saying, “I’ll put all these here because they’re food, and all these here because they’re animals.” Although the softwarehadn’t been designed to teach classification, it allowed him to experiment with that idea himself. If you don’t have a computer by the time your child goes to school, he’ll form his first impressions of computers in the classroom. It’s OK for them to learn the computer at school. But if they had used it at home, they’ll feel smarter and it’s easier for them to succeed in their studies. By third or fourth grade, however, students may be at a definite disadvantage in both writing and research if they don’t have at-home access toword processing programs.

根据文章第一段“My work started in 2003 at my local animal shelter’s Adoption Department. It seems like such a long time ago. In the 13 years that have passed, more than 50,000 animals have passed the doors of the shelter. Most of them, I do not remember. But occasionally there are animals who stand out.
根据文章第二段的“Tabby was one of the many homeless dogs. What’s more, she was blind and deaf(Tabby是许多无家可归的狗之一。而且,她又瞎又聋)”可知,Tabby是一只无家可归的狗,并且看不见、听不到。故选D项。
26.细节理解题。根据第三段“...it was what happened after her adoption that some might label as ‘magical’(…这是她被收养后发生的事情,有些人可能会将其称为“奇迹”)”.和“Tabby began to telegraph Gary’s seizures before they occurred, giving his family a warning that one was about to strike. What’s more, Gary seemed to be having fewer and fewer seizures since Tabby’s arrival.(Tabby在Gary的癫痫发作之前就开始给他发警告,给他的家人一个警告,说有人要发作了。更重要的是,自从Tabby到来后,加里的癫痫发作似乎越来越少了。)”可知,Tabby能预知癫痫的发作,Gary的癫痫病也得到了一定的控制,对此作者认为很神奇。故选C项。
27.主旨大意题。文章讲述了作者工作的动物收容所里有一条又盲又瞎的流浪狗,最终得到了一个善良小男孩的收养。开启了一人一狗的生活后,小男孩的癫痫病也得到了神奇的控制。结合第二段的“Love is blind (爱是盲目的)”和最后一段的“Sometimes, the best that we can do is to accept a miraculous thing, which we didn’t attempt to explain.(有时候,我们能做的最好的事情就是接受一件我们没有试图解释的奇迹)”可知,正因为爱是盲目的,Tabby才能被接纳和收养,同时它也积极地改善了小男孩的身体情况,这是神奇的一件事情,Tabby也是一条神奇的狗。 故选A项。

根据第二段的主要内容,尤其“Microplastics shed off clothes and tires and have been found in beer, honey, table salt and other food items. We breathe in plastic staying in the air and drink plastic floating in our drinks. It's no stretch to conclude that our exposure is significant.(从衣服和轮胎脱落的微塑料在啤酒、蜂蜜、食盐和其他食品中也有发现。我们吸入空气中的塑料,喝漂浮在饮料中的塑料。毫不夸张地说,我们已经巨大地暴露在了微塑料中)”可知,本段主要介绍了微塑料已经大量出现在人们的生活中。故选C。
29.词句猜测题。根据第二段末的“What we don't know is what this means for us.(我们不知道这对我们意味着什么)”和第三段的“Studies done on mice and rats have found that plastic in their bodies can severely damage cells and cause stress.(对小鼠和大鼠进行的研究发现,它们体内的塑料会严重损伤细胞并造成压力)”可知,为了能够找到微塑料对人体健康危害的证据,科学家在老鼠身上进行了研究。
根据倒数第二段“"I think we need to have more studies coming out that are directly related to human health before we see a lot more concern from the general public," Scott said. "It takes a lot to convince people that something that is really convenient for them to use is something they should sacrifice."(斯科特说:“我认为,我们需要进行更多与人类健康直接相关的研究,才能看到公众更多的关注。要花大量精力才能让人们相信方便他们使用的东西会让他们付出代价。”)”可推知,Scott认为解决这个问题的方法是提高人们对微塑料危害的认识。故选D。
31.主旨大意题。根据文章的主要内容,第二段末的“What we don't know is what this means for us.(我们不知道这对我们意味着什么)”和第三段“The amount of evidence collected on this subject is growing rapidly, according to Scott Coffin, a toxicologist(毒理学家).Studies done on mice and rats have found that plastic in their bodies can severely damage cells and cause stress.(毒理学家Scott Coffin表示,在这个问题上收集的证据数量正在迅速增长。对小鼠和大鼠进行的研究发现,它们体内的塑料会严重损伤细胞并造成压力)”可知,文章主要介绍微塑料已经大量出现在我们的日常生活,但是否会对我们的健康造成影响,还需进一步的研究。故“微塑料污染对我们的健康有害吗?”可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选A。

根据第二段“Surprising new research suggests that happiness does indeed have a scent, and that the experience of happiness can be transmitted through smell, reports Phys.org.”
根据第三段“All of the men were healthy and none of them were drug users or smokers”可知,所有的男性都很健康,没有一个是吸毒者或吸烟者。 故选A。
根据文章第八段中的“Happiness perfumes, for instance, could be invented. Scent therapiescould also be developed to help people through depression or anxiety”可知,比如,可以发明幸福香水。
根据对文章最后一段中“our own emotions are potentially managed through our social context and the emotional states of those around us” 我们自己的情绪是如何通过我们的社会环境和周围人的情绪状态来管理的。

选项C中的it与上句话中的“The location”可形成指代关系,并且“make or break some healthy eating habits”与文章主题(Healthy See, Healthy Do看到的健康的,买的就是健康的)呼应。故选C。
由本段中的“a research scientist at the department”可知,前边应该出现过department,选项E中的“Department of Health”与之呼应。故选E。
选项F中的“They replaced candies and cookies with fruits and nuts near the checkout counter(他们把收银处附近的糖和饼干换成了水果和坚果)”与这个试验的目的一致。故选F。

分析句子可知,此空应填连词,前句 never thought it very important和后句 never thought it very important是转折关系,应用although/though/while引导让步状语从句。故填Although/Though/While。

故填first。
故填were used。
故填an。

67.That evening. I was surfing online and saw a friend’s children playing with their new cat. An idea hit me. “Why not get her a pet?” I thought to myself. Acting on a sudden inspiration, I logged in a pet shelter website and went straight to Micah’s room. "Sweetie, I've got a surprise for you." I showed her the pictures of those cats that she could adopt. With her mouth wide opening, she simply couldn’t take her eyes off those cute creatures. Finally she pointed to a baby cat with yellow spots on the head.
“This is the one I want "she said, smiling. We paid online and the next day the little angel was delivered to our house. Micah gently scooped it up into her arms and planted her face into the soft fur and then Micah smiled at me with a tender look, "thank you, mum." A huge wave of warmth flooded all over my body and it seemed like a wall between us torn down. My silence drew her attention and she looked at me again, throwing herself in my arms. “I love you, mum.”
