一.一般过去时的定义
表示过去某一时间所发生的动作或存在的状态, 谓语动词要用过去式。
时间状语：经常与yesterday（昨天）, last week（上周）, last month（上个月）, last year（去年）, two months ago（两个月前）, the day before yesterday（前天），in 1990 (在1990年), in those days （在那些日子里）等表示过去的时间状语连用。
eg. I was born in 1990. (我出生在1990年)。

二.一般过去时的具体用法
1.表示过去具体时刻发生的一次性动作时,时间状语有：at (eight) (yesterday morning),(ten minutes) ago, when引导的时间状语从句。
如：I got up at 6：00 this morning.(我是早上六点钟起床的)
Little Tom broke the window at half past nine this morning.(小汤姆今天早上九点半把窗子打破了)
When he went into the room,he saw a stranger talking with his father.(他走进房间时发现一个陌生人正和他父亲谈话)
2.表示过去一段时间内不知何时发生的一次性动作时,时间状语有：yesterday, last (year等), in (1998 等)。
如：He came to our city in the year 2000.(他2000年来到我们市)
3.表示过去一个阶段中经常发生的事情时,时间状语有：last…, in…, from…to…, for(10 years),often,usually, sometimes, always, never等。
如：Mr Jackson usually went to evening schools when he was young.
Every day he went to the rich man and borrowed books from him.
4. 讲故事、对过去经历的回忆、双方都明白的过去事件等一般用过去时,而且经常省略时间状语。
如：I happened to meet Rose in the street.(我正好在街上遇到露西)

三. 动词过去式的变化规则
1.11.; Z% p: X' a% Y% `! D" A. k一般过去时态由动词的过去式表示。大多数动词的过去式是在动词原形后加上ed构成。这类动词称为规则动词。
3 @/ H9 [- \. l7 k7 r0 N1） 一般情况下在词尾直接加ed。 如：play―played work―worked

4） 以重读闭音节结尾的动词，如果末尾只有一个辅音字母，要双写最后这个辅音字母， 再加ed.

动词过去式的不规则变化：不以ed 结尾的过去式，称为不规则动词。需要大家背不规则动词表。

五．一般过去时态的“三变”技巧
一变：肯定句变为否定句
- N: B3 i. V5 w' {4 P2 V【技巧1】当句中含有情态动词或助动词could，would，should等时，可直接在其后面加not构成否定句。

【技巧2】当句中含有系动词was，were 时，可直接在其后加not构成否定句。

→ I was not / wasn't on the Internet when you called me.
7 A7 s, @- |0 C8 u【技巧3】当句中谓语是除情态动词、助动词、系动词was, were以外的动词时，在该动词之前加did not / didn't，动词还原，构成否定句。T0 z! w0 G+ ^

二变：陈述句变为一般疑问句 4 G3 A3 w, `, q6 u9 c4 H
【技巧1】移动词语的位置。将was，were, could，would，should等移到句首。例如： & l6 V) B; |: x! _6 p0 p0 p+ ~1 G
He could pack his things himself. → Could he pack his things himself?
. i4 r$ }! T8 S3 W" y【技巧2】添加助动词did。谓语是除情态动词、助动词、系动词was, were以外的动词时，在主语之前加did，动词还原。例如：

: e, k% g# u, v) D0 F( L三变：陈述句变为特殊疑问句

【技巧1】移动词语的位置。将was，were, could，would，should等移到句首。例如： & l6 V) B; |: x! _6 p0 p0 p+ ~1 G
