Six years ago, I went blind because of a sudden illness. Some normal things like answering the telephone, finding things, or opening and closing doors were difficult for me. I had no idea what facial expressions someone was making when I had a conversation with him. I no longer had the ability to talk with my eyes. How worried I was!
I had to depend on my parents. Hoping I could get better, they took me to see eye experts every day. No one was sure if I would ever completely recover, and if so, how long it would take. I was so sad that I even wanted to give up. My parents even changed their lives in order to make me happy. They would take me to baseball games and out to dinner anything to get me out of the house.
My parents had to take care of me everywhere. At restaurants, they ordered my food, laid it on the table, and then explained where everything was on my plate so I could finally eat it. My mom was amazing. Each day she would brush my hair and dress me up so I could walk out of the house with a little bit of pride. I depended on my mother to make me feel pretty. At an age when I should have been independent, I found myself depending on my parents too much.
My parents took great care of me and I slowly began to progress toward the end of the year. Little by little, I was able to see clearly. I will never forget the moment when I could see my mother’s face again. She smiled with happy tears in her eyes, though she looked much older than before.
The experience may be just a joke from life, but it shows the great love of parents. Parents’ love is the greatest love in the world.
19.How does the writer explain some normal things were difficult for him in Para 1?
A.By listing examples. B.By showing his opinions.
C.By asking questions. D.By giving numbers.
20.What does the underlined word “recover” probably mean?
A.Return to be normal after an unhappy experience, e.g. it can take many years to recover from losing a loved one.
B.Get well again after being ill, e.g. he hasn’t fully recovered from a seriously injury.
C.Get back the money, e.g. he is not likely to recover the costs.
D.Find something lost or stolen, e.g. the police eventually recovered the stolen paintings.
21.Which is the correct order in which these happened?
    a. I made progress little by little.                            b. My parents took care of me everywhere.
    c. I went blind because of a sudden illness.                  d. I could see clearly in the end.

    A.c-d-a-b. B.b-c-a-d. C.c-b-a-d. D.c-a-b-d.
22.What may be the best title of this passage?
A.Dependence on Parents. B.A Joke from Life.
    C.Parents’ Love. D.Mother’s face.

When we look at a picture of Earth from space, there are areas of green, blue, and white. Most people will recognize that the green is land, the blue is water, and the white is clouds. Taken as a whole, Earth is mainly blue. That is because of the amount of water it has that covers the surface.
So, how much of Earth is water? About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in water. Of that 71%, the oceans hold 96.5% of the water. This water found in oceans is all salt water. The remaining 3.5% of the water is fresh water, which can be found in lakes, rivers, glaciers (冰川), and in the ground. Fresh water is what people use for farming, raising animals, drinking, and daily activities such as taking showers and washing clothes or dishes.
Does the amount of water stay the same? For the most part, yes. Water on Earth is part of a closed system. That is, water is always moving and changing forms between ice, liquid, and gas. The form of the water changes all the time, but the total amount of water on Earth remains the same.
If Earth is not necessarily running out of water, why are people worried? Why do we need to think about saving water? First, humans can only use fresh water, which is only 3.5% of all of Earth’s water. Second, of this 3.5%, only 1% is available for human use. Most fresh water is found in glaciers far from where anyone lives. Third, the amount of water that is useful for humans is being used faster than it can be cleaned and put back into the environment.
Now, knowing the facts about water, it is our job to make sure we use Earth’s water in a good way.
23.Where can 96.5% of the water on Earth be found?
    A.In oceans. B.In lakes. C.In glaciers. D.In rivers.
24.What does the writer mean by saying “Water on Earth is part of a closed system.”?
A.The amount of water becomes smaller. B.The amount of water stays the same.
C.The amount of water keeps changing. D.The amount of water becomes larger.
25.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A.Humans can use all the water on Earth easily.
B.Most fresh water is found in the ground easily.
C.Humans can’t use 2.5% of the fresh water freely.
D.Water for humans can be cleaned and recycled fast.
26.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The reasons why Earth is in different colors.
B.The people who use the most water on Earth.
C.The amount and different types of Earth’s water.
D.The proper ways for people to use fresh water.

People of all ages and nations enjoy Chinese paper cutting. Paper cuttings, though, are no longer just used for pretty decorations.
This art form came from the sixth century. Chinese women would cut shapes from gold and silver foil(箔)to stick to their hair. According to Li, “All you need are paper, scissors and a lot of skill.” Li was born in Shaanxi Province, where paper cutting is still practiced and taught. Today, she teaches the ancient craft to people of every age.
Today some artists are turning paper cutting into a new art form. They often add paint and other materials to it. They mix imagination with skill to create amazing designs. Some of the most beautiful pieces of paper art come from Nahoko Kojima of Japan. She’s a leader in the field of paper-cut art as “sculptures”.
