“The cleaners said I could pick up our things today,” Jet’s mom said on the drive to school.
“Do you think they were able to clean Big Dog?” Jet asked, trying not to sound too worried.
Big Dog was his favorite stuffed(填充的) animal. Grandpa had won it for him at the fair when he was five years old. Jet was eight now, and he didn’t need to sleep with it or anything. But he did need it. He needed it to sit on the shelf above his bed—the shelf that was now burnt by the house fire.
“I’m not sure what the cleaners could save,” Mom said sadly. “They said they weren’t able to save our photo albums(相册). I sure will miss those pictures.”
At school, Jet tried to focus on his schoolwork all day, but he couldn’t keep his mind off Big Dog. In the art class, Mr. Light said they could work on whatever they wished. Jet drew several pictures of spending time happily with his family. By the time class was over, Jet had a small album sketched out(草拟).
When Jet’s mom picked him up from school, Jet was excited to see Big Dog was in the car.

“Looks as if there’s room for one more picture,” Mom said, smiling. “Do you mind if I draw it?”
“Of course not.” Jet said.

In childhood, we’re told: “Don’t talk to strangers.” But this is short-sighted advice because after we finish high school and move out into the world, everyone we met unexpectedly is a stranger. And we’re social members, which means we need each other. So instead of avoiding strangers, we need to get good at interacting (交流) with them, both to get help when we need it and to be of use to them.
Let’s start with actual strangers-like the people you pass on the street or in a store. You may not think you’re in a relationship with them, but you really are. Research shows that when you look right through someone as if they aren’t there, they feel a little upset. When you give someone eye contact and a smile, it makes them feel good. And you feel good too when they do it back to you.
What about the humans you interact with often yet don’t really know, like the clerks at your store, the person at the front desk in your building, your postman and so on? Researchers call these people “consequential (必然的) strangers,” because having them in your life is of consequence to you. Show them that they matter by saying “How’s your day going?” Learn their names so next time you can say, “Hey, Breonna, how’s your day going?”
Then there are those in your loose (松散的) network, like neighbors and workmates. When you see a neighbor, try stopping to ask them how their day’s going. Or if you’re going to the store, ask if you can pick something up for them. Or, you can have a party and put out name tags to avoid the embarrassment of not knowing each other. Finally, at work, listen to the small things about people’s lives.
63.What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A.We must follow the advice “Don’t talk to strangers”.
B.We may feel upset without interacting with strangers.
C.Social members are expected to be good at interacting.
D.Children need to avoid meeting strangers to keep safe.
64.How can we interact with the actual strangers according to the writer?
A.Keep silent. B.Smile to them.
C.Walk away quickly. D.Look right through them.
65.Which of them belongs to “consequential strangers”?
A.The pop stars you like best.
B.People meeting in the cinema.
C.Cleaners in your neighborhood.
D.The neighbors living next to the door.
66.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
67.What’s the writer’s purpose to write the passage?
A.To stop us from talking with strangers.
B.To introduce the kinds of the strangers.
C.To tell us the ways to interact with strangers.
D.To teach us how to deal with embarrassment.
Many people today think of the pyramids of Giza(吉萨金字塔) as the symbol of ancient Egyptian (埃及的) culture. But who actually built them? For years, we did not know for sure. Now, however, the scientists have discovered an ancient city near the pyramids. Close by, there is a burial place for the pyramid builders. From studying these places, scientists can now prove that the pyramids were not built by slaves(奴隶), foreigners or aliens. Actually Egyptians built them.
It took about 80 years to build the pyramids. Scientists believe that about 20,000-30,000 people worked on them. The workers had different roles. Some dug up the rock, some moved it, and some shaped it into blocks. People also worked on different teams, each with its own name. Workers often competed to see whose team could do a job faster.
Life for these workers was hard. “We can see that in their skeletons(骨骼),” says a scientist. According to her research, the bones show signs of arthritis (关节炎). This probably developed from carrying heavy things for a long time. Scientists have also found many women skeletons in the ancient city and burial place. The hurt to their bones is similar to that of the men. In fact, their lives may have been even harder: Men workers generally lived to age 40-45, but women to only 30-35. However, workers usually had enough food, and they also received medical care if they got sick or hurt.
The task was challenging, but builders were proud of their work. On a wall in Khufu’s Great Pyramid, for example, a group of workers wrote Friends of Khufu. “It’s because they were not just building the tomb of their king,” says Egyptian scientist Zahi Hawass. “They were building Egypt. It was a national project, and everyone played a role in it.”
68.Who built the pyramids according to the passage?
A.Slaves. B.Foreigners. C.Aliens. D.Egyptians.
69.What did the workers do while building the pyramids? Check and choose the right answers.
① Wrote the builders’ names. ② Shaped the rock into blocks.
③ Dug up and moved the rock. ④ Made friends with their king.
⑤ Worked and competed in teams.
A.①②④ B.②③⑤ C.①②⑤ D.③④⑤
70.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The slaves were buried near the pyramids.
B.The workers could be treated if they were ill.
C.The women workers lived longer than men workers.
D.Over 30,000 people took part in building the pyramids.
71.Why did the workers write “Friends of Khufu” on the wall?
A.The workers took pride in their work.
B.Khufu’s friends helped build the tomb.
C.Khufu regarded the workers as friends.
D.Khufu’s friends hoped to be buried with him.
72.The passage is mainly about the________of the pyramids of Giza.
