It can immediately know someone’s tax duties and provide detailed descriptions of images. However, though the new technology can do better on tests and offer precise medical advice to doctors, it can mess up basic arithmetic(算术).
On Tuesday, OpenAI started selling access to GPT-4 so that businesses and othersoftware developers could build their own applications on top of it. A few companies arealready working with GPT-4. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is building a system that’llimmediately retrieve(检索)information from company documents, and serve it up to financialadvisers in the form of conversations.
OpenAI got the new technology enhanced. As people tested ChatGPT, they rated thechatbot’s responses, separating those that were useful and truthful from those that weren’t.Then, using an advanced skill, the system spent months analyzing those ratings and gaining abetter understanding of what it should and shouldn’t do.
Given a long article and asked to summarize it, GPT-4 will give a precise summary nearlyevery time. Moreover, given a photograph, chart or diagram, the technology can provide adetailed, paragraphs-long description of the image and answer questions about its contents.
OpenAI leaders said the company wasn’t immediately releasing the image description partof the technology because they were unsure how it could be applied for improper purposes. However, “We can take all these general-purpose knowledge skills and spread them across allsorts of different areas,” said Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president. “This takes the technology intoa whole new field.”
    28. What does GPT-4 need to make improvements in according to the text?
    A. Its describing skill. B. Its arithmetic ability.
    C. Its copying capability. D. Its summary function.

    B. Its technology could go into a new field.
    C. It may not sell well as expected.
    D. Its image description could be misused.

Since the rise in car ownership in the 1950s, the US has started building roads in citiesand across the country to provide enough room for automobiles. Houston, like many cities, isturning back the clock to make room for passers-by, cyclists and parks.
Memorial Park in Houston, Texas was halved by the Memorial Drive Highway in the1950s. It has now been reunited. The highway is still there, but the road goes underneath the1,500-acre park.

After 10 years of planning and constructing, the Kinder Land Bridge officially opened inearly February, 2023. The bridge consists of 100 acres of greenery, and while designed forpeople, has reconnected wildlife corridors. The reconstruction added 45 acres of native GulfCoast prairie(草原)that’ll increase biodiversity in the park. “This project is not just aboutcreating a passage or a bridge. This project is about ecology, it’s about biodiversity and watermanagement. This project is a bridge into Houston’s future.” said Shellye Arnold, presidentof the Memorial Park Conservancy.

Early one morning, I went to explore a nearby glacier. Stickeen followed me, andtogether we went upon the glacier. Later, I discovered that we were trapped between two verydeep cracks in the glacier. The only way across it was a very thin ice that connected thecracks. I made a path across the “bridge” and got to the other side. But my dog was afraid tohave a try and began to cry. After taking another careful look at the large cracks, he ran awayhopelessly to find some other crossings. By the time he got back, he was confused of course.
When I reached the other side, he screamed louder than ever, and after running back andforth without searching for a good way to escape, he would return to the edge of the crack, crying as if in the sadness of death. I called again and again in a sure voice to come on and fearnothing, but he would think for a moment, look down again at the “bridge”, and shout hisunshakable thought that he could never, never come that way, and then lie back hopelessly,as if screaming, “O-o-oh! What a place! No-o-o, I can never go-o-o down there!” At last, Iseriously shouted to him that now I must certainly leave him and I could wait no longer if hecould not come.

    (Text 9)
M: That bathroom had a person in it, Dana! He was all dressed up in a fancy uniform, giving people warmtowels!
W: He’s a bathroom worker in the building. He’s named David. Did you give him a tip?
M: A tip? Is that why he gave me a strange look?
W: Yeah, he wanted you to give him some money, Sam.
M: But I only have a twenty-dollar bill with me.
W: You should tip about a dollar.
M: He must have thought I was rude. Now I can never go back here.
W: It’s OK, Sam. He knows you’re not from here.
M: How did you know you were supposed to give the guy money?
W: I had been here five times before someone told me.
M: Well, I can just tip him twice the next time I come here.
W: You’ll be coming here every week to get your salary, so just be nice to him.
    (Text 10)
M: Good evening, and welcome to the Channel Four news. I’m Jeffrey Stone. Today’s top story takes us to thesmall village of Hilden. There are only about 200 people who live there, and there is a big open area in thecenter for the weekly market. There is only one restaurant in the village, and it’s been serving delicious foodand drinks for more than two centuries! If you look closely, you may be able to tell what makes this villagedifferent. Do you see how all the houses are much higher than we might expect? That’s because Hilden ishome to some of the tallest people in all of England! Both men and women are about 25% taller than mostothers, and the tallest man in the village right now is seven and a half feet tall! That’s taller than most NBAplayers! No one is sure why everyone in Hilden is so tall, but we’re going to find out. Stay with us, won’tyou? This is going to be interesting.
