London has a new magazine. But it is not printed on paper. Everyone who has a television can receive it because it is on TV.
In order to read this magazine you have to have a decoder. Each page of it is numbered, so you only have to dial the number to choose which subject you want to read about. There is a wide choice——— everything is included from cooking to the latest sports news.
If you want to read the news, the first thing you have to do is to turn to the index(索引) page which has an easy-to-remember page number,100 for example. The news is on pages 101 to 109 so you push out the numbers and the news appears written across your screen. Perhaps you want to go out in the afternoon, so you press 181, and a brightly coloured weather map appears on the screen. But the weather is terrible so you decide to go shopping and dial 162 for a list of the week’s best bargains. But should you drive or take the train? To answer that question you only have to press 189 for the traffic report. It is very simple to use. But probably the best thing about the service is that it is being updated all the time. Journalists type new material directly onto the screen and whole pages of the magazine can be replaced in minutes.
London already has three services. One is transmitted(输送) by ITV while the other two on BBC. BBC engineers do not think that their idea will ever replace books and newspapers because they can be taken with you everywhere. But many people would agree that this is a breakthrough as great as the invention of printing, which could change not just our reading habits but our whole way of life.
24. Where can you see this new magazine?
A. In a bookshop. B. In a library. C. On television. D. In a reading room.
25. What does “it” in the sentence “Each page of it is numbered” refers to?
A. Decoder. B. Magazine. C. Subject. D. Program.
26. If you want some information about weather, you should press .
A. 162 B. 189 C. 109 D. 181
27. What is the text mainly about?
A. A new magazine printed in London.
B. A popular TV program with three services.
C. An up-to-date way of getting information.
D. A technology helping people to communicate.
C
When you choke, you can’t breathe properly or can’t get enough air into your lungs because there is something in your throat. Choking can make the person unable to breathe, talk, or even make noise. Worse still, because the body needs oxygen to stay alive, when oxygen can’t reach the lungs and the brain, a person can become unconscious(失去知觉), suffer from brain damage, and even die within minutes. That is what makes choking such a serious emergency.
Choking is a serious thing. If you think someone is choking, shout for help and have somebody call 911 right away. If you can do it properly and safely, meanwhile you can give him or her first aid. In other words, you can get behind the choking person and then give a certain kind of quick squeeze(挤压)in the middle of the stomach. This squeeze sends a quick, powerful burst of air from the person’s lungs upward, removing the problem food or object and often sending it flying out of the person’s mouth.
Choking is sometimes dangerous. Luckily, something can be done to prevent it. For example, be extra careful when you’re eating certain foods that are easy to choke on. They include things like hot dogs, nuts, grapes, raw carrots, popcorn, and hard candy. Check food labels to make sure that the food isn’t the kind that can lead to choking. Also you can sit down, take small bites and don’t talk or laugh when your mouth is filled with food!
In addition, look out for the little guys and girls. Babies and young children love to put things in their mouths, so help keep them safe by picking up anything off the floor that might be risky to swallow———like pen caps and coins. Keep toys with small parts in some place young children can’t get to, and never share your food or candy with a baby.
28. What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about?
A. Examples of choking. B. Signs of choking.
C. Harms of choking. D. Causes of choking.
29. What first aid should be given to a choking sufferer?
A. Pouring some water into his mouth. B. Gently pressing him on the back.
C. Asking the people present for help. D. Trying to clear the thing of his throat.
30. What should we do to keep choking from happening to kids?
A. Offer them toys with small parts. B. Keep dangerous things out of their reach.
C. Talk to them while we are feeding them. D. Forbid them from eating too many candies.
31. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. An advertisement. B. A work report.
C. An interesting story. D. A magazine on nursing.
D
It’s always nice to have a little help around the house. But what if you could employ the assistance of one of the greatest minds of the 20th century?
That’s the idea behind a new robot modeled after Albert Einstein. Called Professor Einstein and standing at just over a foot tall, this personal assistant can tell you the weather and keep track of your schedule like any other robots. With built-in Wi-Fi, Einstein robot has access to brain ceasing games, and can answer math problems and science questions. With natural language speech processing, you can actually interact with Professor Einstein. And because the robot is connected to the Internet, it is constantly updated with new information.
To help get the perfect replica(复制品) of Einstein, the Hong Kong-based tech company Hanson Robotics turned to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the home of the Albert Einstein archives(档案). “We worked very closely with them to bring the product co marker,” the company’s Dr. Jeanne Lim said.
Einstein robot was introduced to the public at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and was quickly hailed by those who saw it. “He became one of the breakout stars of the convention,” wrote Melia Robinson on Business Insider. “Crowds flooded into the company to have a look at the little guy.”
“Technology is often now very cold and socially isolating(孤立的),” explained David Hanson, the co-founder of the company behind the new robot, “By bringing an lively character into our physical world, we’re humanizing(使人性化)the technology instead of dehumanizing the humans.”
As for Hanson Robotics, the company has been building human-size robots for over a decade. But this marks the company’s first commercially available product. “Professor Einstein is just the start,” said Hanson. “We’re witnessing the arrival of conversational robots that can walk in our world. It’s a golden age of invention.”
32. What can Einstein robot do?
A. Teach you to learn any new language. B. Have a regular conversation with you.
C. Design a number of science questions. D. Keep track of other robots constantly.
33. Which of the following best explains “hailed” underlined in paragraph 4?
A. Broken. B. Improved. C. Ignored. D. Praised.
34. What can be inferred from David Hanson’s words?
A. He stays hopeful about the future of robot invention.
B. He dreams of humanizing humans through invention.
C. He worries about golden age for conversational robots.
D. He expects humans to be less isolated from robots.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A New Robot Makes Humans Much Happier.
B. The Golden Age of Invention Is Approaching.
C. Albert Einstein Changes into an Assistant.
D. Albert Einstein Helps to Humanize Robots.

Learn to control your emotions.
39 And it’s definitely not worth the emotions. Don’t compromise (妥协)on your happiness just because someone is trying to pick a fight. Just let it go(不要理会) and be happier.

参考范文:
First Aid in Fires
It is important to know what to do when you are in dangerous situations such as a fire.
When you are caught in a fire, don’t panic. Firstly, you should call 119 and report it to firemen at once. If you are in thick smoke, keep close to the ground and use a wet towel to cover your mouth and nose. Secondly, don’t take a lift or jump from a high building. You can fasten ropes to something that’s fixed and then slide down the building. Thirdly, don’t be unwilling to leave your money or other things behind. You should try to get away from the fire as quickly as you can. After all, life is more important. Once you get out of the fire, don’t go back into it again.

W: And the host is a very interesting person too. I believe you will like him. He is my brother.

M: Lucy, how can you eat so much chocolate and still stay slim and fit?
W: Simple. I exercise a lot.
M: Really? I want to, too, but I don’t know what sports to do since we don’t have PE lessons.
W: That’s true, but there are so many sports teams and sports clubs you can join.
M: I guess so. Well, I really like basketball.
W: The basketball club meets every Tuesday evening.
M: I like to exercise when I want. I don’t like to follow a schedule all the time.
W: Then you could join the gym. We can go along together.
M: Oh, that sounds good. What equipment do they have?
W: There are all kinds of machines, like the running machines and exercise bikes.
M: Sounds great. Let’s go on Sunday.
W: OK.

W: Hi Tom. I haven’t seen your sister Pam for a few days.
M: Haven’t you heard? She had an accident yesterday.
W: Not on her horse?
M: She doesn’t ride it now. Boating is her latest hobby. She fell off her bicycle while going to the boat club.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. I hope she wasn’t badly hurt.
M: Her arms are OK and she’s cut her legs a bit. But she can’t walk because she’s broken something in her foot, so the doctor is keeping her in hospital until tomorrow.
W: Will she go home when she leaves hospital?
M: Our mum and dad are not at home, and my flat’s too small so she’ll stay at our aunt’s house.
W: Can I visit her at any time today?
M: After two o’clock. The hospital doesn’t let visitors in until after lunch.
W: I’ll go this afternoon. Shall I take her some fruit?
M: She doesn’t feel like eating much.
W: I’ll get her some magazines then.
M: That’d be great!

W: Can I help you, sir?
M: I’d like to buy a camera.
W: Right. We have ordinary cameras, movie cameras and video cameras. They are all digital.
M: Well, I’m thinking of a video camera.
W: Let’s see. How much do you want to spend, sir?
M: Oh, I am not really sure. What is the price?
W: Well, that depends on the model and anything else you want to have with it.
M: I see.
W: How about this one? It has one of the new memory discs and a protected case for filming underwater, so you can take it when you go diving.
M: It doesn’t have auto-focus.
W: No, it doesn’t.
M: That’s OK. The underwater filming is important for me actually. How much is this?
W: It costs 650 euros.
M: Oh, that’s a bit expensive for me. Have you got anything similar but less expensive?
W: Well, here is the sale of the week. It’s excellent for the price, only 470 euros and it includes. . .

On Saturday evening, I went to a concert. Afterwards, I walked back home. When I arrived home, I realized that I had forgotten to take my house key with me. I had left it inside and left the door closed when I went out. How was I going to get in? Luckily, I noticed that a side window was not fully closed. By pushing my arm through it, I could open the door inside. Happy at this thought, I pushed the window open and was about to get into the house. Just then, a police car was passing by. The police saw a woman trying to get into the house through the window. They came over right away and wanted to take me to jail. I tried to explain everything, but they didn’t believe me. Finally, I asked them to come inside my house. There on the wall, I showed them all my photos. The police believed me at last, and they asked me not to do such a thing in the future, as thieves might follow my example. I smiled and nodded my head.
