Robert Moody, 52, is an experienced police officer. Much of his work involves dealing with drug problems in the schools of his community. Knowing that many kids often ran into trouble, he decided to do something about it. So he began to invite small groups of kids to go fishing with him on his day off.
Those fun trips had a lasting influence. A chance encounter later proved that. One day, while working security at a school basketball game, Moody noticed two young guys quarreling. He sensed trouble between them. Suddenly one of them headed toward Moody and gave him a hug. “I remember you. You took me fishing when I was in fifth grade. That was one of the best days of my life.”
Deeply touched by the boy’s word, Moody decided to create a foundation (基金会) that introduces teenagers to the basics of fishing in camping programs. “As a policeman, I saw where there was violence, drugs were always behind it. They have a damaging influence on the kids,” says Moody.
By turning kids on to fishing, he intended to present an alternative (可选择的) way of life, “When you’re sitting there waiting for a bite ,” he says, “you can’t help but talk to each other, and such conversations can be pretty deep.”
“Talking about drugs helped prepare me for the peer pressures in high school,” says Michelle, 17 who participated in the first program. “And I was able to help my little brother avoid drugs.”
Moody faces retirement in three years, when he hopes to run the foundation full-time. “I’m living a happy life and I have a responsibility to my community to give back,” Moody says. “If I teach a kid to fish today, he can teach his brother to fish tomorrow.”
4、Why did Moody start to invite some kids to go fishing?
A. Because he had his day off.
B. Because they were in the same community.
C. Because he wanted to help them get out of trouble.
D. Because he wanted to help them do their school projects.
5、What can we know about Moody’s foundation?
A. It was created as two boys quarreled at a school basketball game.
B. It was inspired by the meeting with a boy who had fished with him.
C. It was created to teach teenagers how to deal with violence problems.
D. It was created to stop violence and drugs having a damaging influence on kids.
6、What can we infer from Michelle’s words?
A. Both he and his little brother could benefit from the program.
B. Both he and his little brother learned how to fish in the program.
C. He could talk about drug problems with his little brother in the program.
D. Both he and his brother are drug users, who were helped by the program.
7、What is the passage mainly about?
A. The positive impact of fishing on kids.
B. The damaging influences of drugs on kids.
C. A police officer’s connection with some kids in school.
D. The creation of a foundation devoted to introducing kids to fishing.
Have you ever imagined that your simple T- shirt could cool you down by up to 5℃ on sticky summer days? Thanks to a recent discovery, the possibility is getting closer. While there are many choices managing to keep the body warm, this amazing invention aims to offer real relief for those eager to feel comfortable and fresh in the outdoors on extremely hot days.
Its inventors, engineers Ma Yaoguang of Zhejiang University and Tao Guangming of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, took a completely creative approach. They designed a special textile(纺织物) that can absorb body heat and re-emit(重发出) its energy into space. This textile cools both the objects and their surroundings through a technique that is known as radiative cooling, Science Magazine reveals. This means that even when it looks like you are wearing a regular shirt, you are actually wearing a device that works like a mirror.
Up until now, the available solutions to heat through clothes were limited to suggestions on wearing light colors since these don’t absorb sunlight like dark colors do, and choosing breathable cloth like cotton and linen. But even when these tips can actually help you chill, they are simply not enough in the hottest seasons, and in places with extreme temperatures.
Inventors Yaoguang and Guangming are now looking out for textile manufacturers(制造商) and clothing brands that are interested in using their cloth. They estimate that the new material will increase clothing manufacturing costs by just 10 percent. “We can make it with mass production, which means everybody can get a T-shirt and the cost is basically the same as their old ones,” Yaoguang said.
8、What is the purpose of the new invention?
A. To warm up people’s body.
B. To cool people off in hot weather.
C. To measure the wearers’ temperature.
D. To protect clothes from becoming wet.
9、How does the special product work?
A. By sending out absorbed heat.
B. By turning sunlight into energy.
C. By keeping heat out completely.
D. By using light colors to reflect sunlight.
10、What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Relax. B. Heat. C. Cool. D. Freeze.
11、What can we learn about the new T-shirt according to the passage?
A. It needs to be tested further.
B. It had been designed by a clothing brand.
C. It has been produced by a textile manufacturer.
D. It won’t cost much more money than a regular one.
Endangered polar bears are breeding with grizzly bears, creating “pizzly” bears, which is being driven by climate change, scientists say.
As the world warms and Arctic sea ice thins, starving polar bears are being forced ever further south, where they meet grizzlies, whose ranges are expanding northwards. And with that growing contact between the two come increasing hybrids (杂交种), “pizzly” bears.
With features that could give the hybrids an advantage in warming northern habitats, some scientists guess that they could be here to stay. “Usually, the hybrids,“pizzly” bears aren't better suited to their environments than their parents, but these hybrids are able to search for a wider range of food sources, ” Larisa DeSantis, an associate professor of biological sciences at Vanderbilt University, told Live Science.
The rise of “pizzly” bears appears with polar bears’ decrease: their number is estimated to go down by more than 30% in the next 30 years. This sudden fall is related partly to “pizzly” bears taking up polar bears’ ranges, but also to polar bears’ highly specialized diets.
“Polar bears mainly consumed soft foods even during the Medieval Warm Period, a previous period of rapid warming,” DeSantis said, referring to fat meals such as seals. “Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find alternative food sources like seabird eggs.” Actually, the calories they gain from these sources do not balance out(抵消) those they burn from searching for them. This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced.
“We're having massive impacts with climate change on species,” DeSantis said. “The polar bear is telling us how bad things are. In some sense, “pizzly” bears could be a sad but necessary compromise(妥协) given current warming trends.”
12、Why do polar bears move further south?
A. To create hybrids. B. To expand territory.
C. To deal with hunger. D. To contact grizzlies.
13、What makes “pizzly” bears adapt to natural surroundings better than their parents?
A. Wider habitats. B. More food choices.
C. Climate preference. D. Improved breeding ability.
14、What can we learn about polar bears from the passage?
A. Polar bears are increasing.
B. Polar bears like soft foods.
C. Polar bears hate fat meals such as seals.
D. Climate change can benefit polar bears.
15、What's the main idea of the text?
A. Polar bears are changing diets for climate change.
B. Polar bears have already adjusted to climate change.
C. “Pizzly” bears are on the rise because of global warming.
D. “Pizzly” bears have replaced polar bears for global warming.

Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination—the Great National Forest. With food, necessity and cookers loaded onto the car, the family squeezed(挤进) into the car. The car door closed, heat was shut outside.
In the car, Jared, Grady’s younger brother was playing with a toy, making great noise. Grady’s mother talked excitedly with his father. As soon as he sat in the car, Grady put on the earphones and turned on the music. He neither wanted to join his brother nor joined any talk. After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed. Grady threw down his backpack and slammed(砰地关上) the car door.
“This will be a lengthy week,” he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around the campground. Hundreds of tall and green fir trees covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The sun would be setting soon. Grady thought maybe the heat wouldn’t be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain, the hot July left him extremely uncomfortable .
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family insisted on every summer. His father liked cooking over an open air, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to hike and take pictures of animals. Jared had a collection of insect pictures that he had put on the walls in his half of their room. Grady thought they were just scary and that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp—two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While everyone else started preparing dinner, Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for the nearby river, which was deep enough to swim in.

32、答案:①which②will be③to④different⑤making⑥sold/selling⑦that⑧specially⑨the⑩stores
故填which。
故填will be。
故填to。
故填sold/selling。
so...that..."如此……以至于……",固定句型,引导结果状语从句。故填that。
故填the。

As Grady got close to the river, he saw a cute bear cub(幼崽). Though Grady didn't like animals, he couldn't resist such a lovely bear cub measuring no more than two feet tall with a cute face. It was playing pretty joyfully at the edge of the river. So absorbed was the bear cub in playing that it wasn't aware that someone was approaching. Driven by curiosity, Grady walked on tiptoe, moving closer to have a look at it. Suddenly he heard a sound behind him.
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving fast towards him. Shocked and dumb, Grady was rooted onto the ground for seconds, and then dashed to their camp desperately, shouting for help in the meantime. Fortunately, Grady's father heard the shout in time to come to his assistance. To their surprise, realizing the danger was away, the furry giant stopped chasing and returned to the river, picking up her baby, and holding it in arms tightly. In the distance, attracted by the noise, Jared and his mother were trying to take a photo of the bear cub and its mother.
