A recent study has showed that a wearable soft robot, named Reliebo, can improve the experience of patients in medical treatments, such as injections(注射)and other unpleasant treatments. The goal of the robot is to help ease pain and defend people against anxiety. The study, led by researchers at the University of Tsukuba, was inspired in part by the numerous needles people had to put up with while being vaccinated. Some people felt an intense di like for these needs, which led to fewer people getting vaccinated.
The robot is soft and covered in fur. It contains small airbags internally that inflate(膨胀) in response to hand movement. Participants in the study who wore the robot while subjected to a medium heat stimulation, experienced less pain in the test than those who did not wear the robot.
The research team checked the effectiveness of the wearable robot while being handled by participants under certain conditions, based on the clenching(紧握) of the hand. The team placed painful heat stimulation on the other arm that was not holding the robot. They then measured cortisol(皮质醇)levels from the participants' saliva samples, suggesting levels of stress hormones. The pain felt by the patients was given specific ratings and was also recorded using an assessment table. The people in the study were given a survey test to assess their fear of injections before and after the experiment with the wearable robot was completed.
The study proved that a wearable-informed robot may serve as a prospective tool to ease the experience of patients who were receiving injections. The research team hopes to use this study to advance the robot for use during painful situations, such as getting medical shots or similar conditions.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, buffoonery(滑稽) was one of few careers acceptable for women to pursue in the Middle Age. And it was not uncommon for women to enjoy this career.
However, in the 17th century, comedians were forced to society's edge as their tendency to truth-telling was no longer tolerated among high society and women, bearing the weight of gender prejudice, were seldom among this career.
This slowly began to change in the mid-19th century when women began to enter the workforce and, in the circus industry, a growing minority of female performers were employed. They promoted the industry’s “New Woman” movement which introduced female performers into the traditionally male stage.
In 1895, among the women breaking the prejudice was Josephine Williams or “Lady Evetta” called the “The Only Lady Clown”.
Williams told The New York Times: “I believe that a woman can do anything for a living that a man can do and do it just as well as a man. All my people laughed at me when I told them that I was going on stage as a clown. But they do not laugh now.”
Despite her being optimistic, the article concluded: “The men in the clown business rather enjoy Miss. Williams’ odd performances but they do not regard her as a serious competitor or believe that any other women are likely to follow her example.”
How wrong they were. In the 1970s, French-born Annie Fratellini openedeh circus school, Académie Fratellini, encouraged by her film-making husband Pierre Etaix.
Fratellini Auguste was recognizable as the clown familiar today. Her unique make-up was made up of a big red nose, tears, a black mouth and shiny decorations fixed to her eyes. When asked whether the character she acted was male or female, she insisted that “clowns have no gender”.

Scientists recently discovered that pictures on cave walls at Creswell Crags are the oldest know in Great Britain. But they didn't find in the usual way.
Archaeologists often dale cave art with a process called radiocarbon dating. The technique can measure the age of carbon found in charcoal(木炭) drawings or painted pictures. Carbon is an element found in many things, including charcoal and even people. But in this case, there was no paint things or charcoal to test. People carve the pictures of animal and figure into the rock using stone tools. The scientists had an “aha!” moment when they noticed small rocks stuck to the top of the drawings. The small rocks must have formed after the drawings were made. “It is rare to be able to scientifically date rock art,” said Alistair Pike, an archaeological scientist at Britain’s University of Bristol. “We were very fortunate that some of the engravings(雕刻) were covered by stalagmites(石笋).”
When a test proved that the stalagmites formed 12, 800 years ago, the scientists knew the art underneath them had to beat least that old. And some of the animals shown, like the European bison, are now extinct, another tip-off(征兆) that the art is quite old.
The artists came to Creswell Crags. This places one of the farthest points north reached by our ancient ancestors during the Ice Age. At that time, much of the North Sea was dry, so people could move about more easily.
Some tools and bones found there are 13, 000 to 15, 0000 years old. They show that the travelers hunted horses, reindeer, and artwork is similar to art in France and Germany. It tells scientists that the Creswell Crags artists must have had a close connection to people several thousand kilometers away—another important evidence of understanding how humans spread out across the world.
32. When the scientists found rocks stuck to the top of the drawing, they .
A. felt pleased and surprised
B. dated the pictures with radiocarbon dating
C. found carbon in the cave pictures
D. carved some pictures of animals into the rock
33. Why do scientists say the art is quite old?
A. The art was carved into the stone with stone tools.
B. All animals carved into the stone are extinct.
C. The cave is one of the farthest points in the world.
D. Some engravings were covered by stalagmites 12, 800 years old.
34. By studying the cave art, scientists could learn about .
A. when ancient people crossed the North Sea
B. how humans spread out across the world
C. why some of the animals have died out
D. what ancient people had for food at that time
