Whether you’re stuck at home, too busy to shop or want to save time, it’s convenient to shop online for groceries. Here are our picks for the top four online grocery shopping sites in the US.
Instacart
Instacart lets you shop at various stores in your local area, including Costco, CVS, Ralph’s, BevMo, Petco, and more. Shoppers subcontracted (转包) by Instacart deliver your items right to your doorstep. Delivery fees vary according to peak hours, but you’ll get free delivery on all orders over $35 with an Instacart Express $99 annual membership.
FreshDirect
FreshDirect focuses on delivering high-quality, fresh, organic food with a short supply chain, working directly with its local farmers, dairies, fishermen, and other food partners. Delivery fees vary, but a $79 six- month subscription to FreshDirect Delivery Pass gets you unlimited free deliveries.
ShopFoodEx
ShopFoodEx offers more than 15,000 grocery and household items to browse by category or search by brand or item. This isn’t a local delivery site, so shipping rates can be rather high, even up to $16 for an item that costs only a few dollars. However, shipping rates are clearly stated before you order anything, and the price may be worth it for a hard-to-find item.
GoBio!
Canadian-owned and operated, GoBio! offers high-quality food delivered to the US and Canada, with free shipping on orders over $85. GoBio! aims to help people cook and bake healthy meals with organic ingredients. Check out the Recipes page for inspiration for cooking delicious organic meals.

I started out with animals as a volunteer in a safari park. For me, it’s about both providing care and supporting their conservation in the wild, which is what led me to Laos in South East Asia, setting up a sanctuary for Sun and Moon bears. They are facing a tough time - they are caught in the wild, and then sold to bear bile (熊胆) farms where they are treated inhumanely.
It was full-steam ahead right from the start. Before I’d even boarded the plane to Laos, Matt, a friend from charity Free The Bears, had called me saying they had rescued a tiny female Sun bear. They named it Mary.
She was found in a tiny cage on the back of a truck that was filled with rubbish. When I met Mary for the first time, she was scared and weak, but after a few days in a caring environment with the right nutrition she quickly found her feet.
It wasn’t all easy work. I remember taking her for a walk one day and she shot off up a tree far beyond our reach just as we were heading back to our nursery centre. She loves honey, but she was so intelligent (and stubborn) that she wouldn’t just come for it. I ended up having to trick her with a game, and finally managed to get her low enough to grab her.
I have countless memories like that which will always make me laugh. But it’s still mentally exhausting to know that more than 10,000 bears are kept in cages across Asia. So I can’t describe the feeling of great joy when we get them into our centre. Seeing them take their first steps on grass after knowing nothing but bars and concrete is what it’s all about. They deserve to have the life they were intended for.

A. Bear farm B. Pet hospital C. Regional office D. Wildlife shelter
5. What happened to Mary when she was found?

C. She was buried in rubbish D. She was abandoned in a truck
6. What made the walk with Mary unforgettable to the author?

C. Her climbing trees quickly D. Their shared love for honey
7. Which of the following best describes the author’s work?
A. Tiring but fruitful B. Delightful and rewarding
C. Challenging but worthwhile D. Unpredictable and demanding
C
When we are born, we are perfect. As we grow, we develop many complexities due to many influences in our lives. Our brain collects and saves all kinds of information from the moment we are born. Apart from our brain having memory, cells in our body have their own memory, meaning that our body stores memories, both physiological and psychological. We are complex emotional beings in nature compared with any other living things.
Apparently, physical and psychological memories strongly influence our emotions! Interestingly, we can create, store, and release emotions like energy. Moreover, if we do not process our negative emotions properly and suppress (压制) them for a long time, they can find a way out violently and unexpectedly. Unfortunately, we carry our guilt throughout our lives putting the ever-increasing burden on our shoulders.
Both guilt and anger are useless for us. Therefore, one may ask: is there a way to put down the burden from our shoulders? It is possible, indeed. Importantly, since our guilt and anger inside us are neither released nor given attention, they are stored. Actually, we should take action to address our negative emotions in order to remove them from our system. We cannot just wish them away.
In fact, by acknowledging their presence and providing a channel for them, we can dissolve our emotions gradually. Is there a better way to unload our burden? Luckily, we have a natural gift for processing our feelings and emotions-forgiveness.
Indeed, forgiving ourselves is a great way to dissolve negative emotions. Of course, we should also learn to readily forgive others, and when we learn to forgive ourselves, we also naturally forgive others.
In summary, it is no good carrying our years of emotional baggage. By forgiving, we can throw away the emotional baggage we carry for years. Forgive your past mistakes. The moment you start forgiving, you will feel relieved and years of heaviness will lift magically!
8. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A. Human beings are born with complexities.
B. Our body has the ability to memorize information.
C. Our brain can collect and retain all information.
D. Not all the other living things have complex emotions like human beings.
9. Why do some people relieve themselves from negative emotions violently?
A. Human beings are complex emotional beings in nature.
B. Physical and psychological memories strongly affect their emotions.
C. Bad emotions are inside themselves for too long and are dealt with incorrectly.
D. Their body stores both physiological and psychological memories.
10. Which of the following statements may the author agree with?
A. Drink some wine and you may feel relieved.
B. There is a way to dissolve your guilt only if you have the wish.
C. Try to release your anger and guilt, or they will be stored inside.
D. Every coin has two sides, which is true of our guilt and anger.
11. What’s the main idea of this passage?
A. Learning to forgive helps people unload their psychological burden
B. Forgiving is the best way for people to dissolve negative emotions
C. Forgiving ourselves is the first step of forgiving others
D. Being energetic and optimistic leads to a happier life
D
In order to help supermarkets and consumers discover spoilage (变质食品) and reduce food waste researchers have developed new low-cost. smartphone-linked, eco-friendly spoilage sensors for meat and fish packaging.
One in three UK consumers throw away food just because it reaches the use-by date, but 60% of the €12.5 billion-worth of food we throw away each year is safe to eat. The researchers, whose findings were published in ACS Sensors, say the sensors could also eventually replace the use-by date - a widely used indicator of being fresh and eatable.
The sensors cost two US cents each to make. Known as “paper-based electrical gas sensors (PEGS)”, they detect spoilage gases like ammonia (a poisonous gas with a strong unpleasant smell) in meat and fish products. The information provided by the electronic nose is received by a smartphone, and then you can know whether the food is fresh and safe to eat.
The Imperial College London researchers who developed PEGS made the sensors by printing carbon electrodes onto a special type of paper. The materials are eco-friendly and harmless, so they don’t damage the environment and are safe to use in food packaging. The sensors, combined with a tiny electronic system, inform nearby mobile devices, which identify and understand the data about spoilage gases.
Lead author Dr. Firat Guder says, “Although they’re designed to keep us safe, use-by dates can lead to eatable food being thrown away. They don’t always reflect its actual freshness. In fact, people often get sick from food-borne diseases due to poor storage, even when an item is within its use-by date.”
“These sensors are cheap enough so we hope to see supermarkets using them within three years. Our goal is to use PEGS in food packaging to reduce unnecessary food waste.”
The authors hope that PEGS could have applications beyond food processing, like sensing chemicals in agriculture and air, and detecting disease markers in breath like those involved in kidney disease.
12. What is the function of PEGS according to the text?
A. Improve the taste of foods B. Improve the service of stores
C. Help supermarkets store foods D. Help people test food freshness
13. What role does the smartphone play while PEGS are functioning?
A. It acts as an electronic nose B. It reads the data collected by PEGS
C. It helps print the gas sensors onto paper D. It discovers the spoilage gases from foods
14. What does Dr. Firat Guder say about use-by dates?
A. They are not completely reliable B. They can help reduce food waste
C. They are based on scientific research D. They are not accepted by the consumers
15. What does the author mainly talk about in the text?
A. The process of researching spoilage sensors
B. A new technology in packaging to reduce food waste
C. The application of spoilage sensors beyond food processing
D. The influence of use-by dates on supermarkets and consumers

When a tornado (龙卷风) touched down in a small town nearby, many families were left completely ruined. Afterward all the local newspapers carried many human-interest stories (有人情味的故事) featuring some of the families who suffered the hardest.
One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of an entirely shabby mobile home, a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downward. Clutching (紧握) at her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, eyes wide with confusion and fear.
The article that went with the picture gave the clothing sizes of each family member. With growing interest, I noticed that their sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my children to help those less fortunate than themselves. I stuck the picture of the young family on our refrigerator, explaining their difficulty to my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and to three-year-old Meghan.
“These poor people now have nothing,” I said. “We’ll share what we have with them. I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them on the living room floor. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and foods.
While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up old toys and games.
Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, much-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. She came to the box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy’s flat, painted -on-face, gave her a final kiss, then laid her gently on top of the other toys.
“Oh, Honey,” I said. “You don’t have to give Lucy. You love her so much.”
Meghan nodded seriously, eyes filled with held-back tears. “Lucy makes me happy, Mommy. Maybe she’ll make that other little girl happy, too.”

第二节(满分25分)
The boys watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box. Without a word. Brad rose and went to his room. He came back carrying one of his favorite action figures. He hesitated briefly, clutching the toy, then looked over at Meghan and placed it in the box next to Lucy. A slow smile spread across Brett’s face. Then he jumped up, eyes twinkling as he ran to fetch some of his prized Matchbox cars. Astonished, I realized that the boys had also recognized what little Meghan’s gesture meant.
I looked at my children for a long moment. Swallowing back tears, I pulled all three of them into my arms. Taking the cue from my little one, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes, I replaced it with the new hunter green jacket that I had found on sale last week. I hoped the young woman in the picture would love it as much as I did. It’s easy to give that which we don’t want any more, but harder to let go of things we cherish, isn’t it? However, the true spirit of giving is to give with your heart.
