There are times when I leave for my running-group sessions with little enthusiasm. It might be because I’m tired, or stressed, or don’t want to leave something else. But I’m the coach, so I can’t choose to give it a miss.
It was yet another cold, dark, wet evening and I wasn’t feeling the love as I gathered all the necessary equipment. No one in their right mind will come out in this weather, I thought. But when I turned into the car park, my headlights picked out runners making a dash through the rain to our meeting point, where others were already working out to stay warm, with chat, laughter and hugs. They, too, I realized, might be tired, stressed or busy. But, unlike me, they had a choice about whether to come running or stay at home. And that makes their decision to come---and to keep on coming---more encouraging. Then, I went home from the run feeling better than when I’d arrived.
I believe one of the strongest motivations(激励;动机) behind these runners’ decisions to come along is being part of a group. Belonging to a running community makes running greater than running itself. It’s no longer just a workout; it’s a get-together with friends, a laugh and a shared experience. It provides a chance to share your success and disappointments, to be congratulated and comforted, and, just as important, to congratulate and comfort others.
Research has long shown the possibility of staying motivated is higher when exercise takes place in a group. The reasons are many. A study at the University of Southern California found people enjoy physical activity more when they are with others and are more likely to keep it up over the long term. And research by Strava in 2017 found running in a group made runners go faster and further. Using data from 90 million runs taking place all over the world, Strava found that the average pace of runs taking place in a group was seven seconds per mile quicker than solo runs, and the distance covered was an average of 1.3 miles further.
I joke about people being more motivated to come to my running sessions by the tea and biscuits afterwards than by the running itself. It might be true, but it doesn’t matter. Those laughter-filled minutes are every bit as important as the running in between.
24.What can we infer from the first paragraph?
    A.The coach was always enthusiastic.
    B.The coach was never discouraged.
    C.The coach was sometimes unwilling.
D.The coach was often worn out.
25.Why is being part of a group most motivational?
A.It needs a coach who can offer help.
B.It frees runners from boring daily work.
C.It helps members to beat their records.
D.It creates space for their communication.
26.That being in a group improves performance is proven by _______ .
    A.taking a typical example B.performing an experiment
C.listing accurate data D.sharing his experiences
27.Tea and biscuits in running sessions are meant to _________ .
A.attract more runners from other groups
B.build up some strength before running
C.make his running group stand out of all
D.add more life to their running experience
    C
Bicycle riding has taken the world by storm. Bicycles are typically made of steel or aluminum(铝)but now there is a unique company that is growing bikes on trees.
These bicycles are made of British-grown ash trees(白蜡树)by Welsh furniture maker Andy Dix. His company, Twmpa Frames, is making bikes that are both high performance and environmentally sustainable. Going from furniture to bicycles came about after a conversation with author Rob Penn. Penn was looking for craftsmen to make things from an ash tree that fell for his book: The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees.
“We talked about what I might build, and I suggested a bike,“ said Dix. "It seemed like a good fit, but actually I had no experience in bike building, and Rob had a publishing deadline. In the end, I built him a writing desk instead." But the idea interested Dix who decided that he had to make it happen just to see if he could.
It took two years to build the prototype(原型)that was made from ash wood Dix tested the wooden bike on the roughest roads he could find and discovered that it was comfortable, and excellent at absorbing vibrations(振动).He put more than 3,000 miles on the bike. While cutting down trees can add to more carbon in the atmosphere, sustainable tree farming is possible. Sustainable forestry is about balancing the needs of the environment and forest communities through limiting harvests and replanting trees.
Producing a ton of aluminum in Britain results in carbon emissions of 4,532kg while producing a ton of wood only results in 457kg. Making bicycle frames out of wood won't make a huge difference but it is a small roll in the right direction.
The cost of a new Twmpa Cycle is out of reach for many bicycle riders; the idea of using sustainable materials like ash could start a new cycling revolution that puts the environment first. The company is even making plans to produce a wooden e-bike. Helping the environment could be just a pedal away.
    28.Why is Rob Penn mentioned?
A.To tell us he was a great author.
B.To praise him for his contribution.
C.To explain why Andy Dix made bikes,
D.To promote his new book to readers.
29.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.Dix took pride in his idea. B.Dix was a skilled worker.
C.Dix was a determined man. D.Dix seldom kept his promise.
30.What is the advantage of making bikes out of wood instead of aluminum?
    A.Lowering costs. B.Reducing pollution.
C.Lasting longer. D.Getting rid of vibrations.
31.What's the best title for the text?
    A.This Bicycle Grows on Trees
    B.Furniture Maker Makes Bikes
    C.Bicycle Riding Becomes Popular
    D.A Company Values the Environment
    D
You might want to take this news standing up. A national survey finds that Americans of all ages are spending more time sitting. Sitting too much——especially when watching television, phones or other screens—can be bad for people’s health, research suggests.
In a new study, researchers analyzed previously collected survey data from more than 50,000 American children, teenagers and adults. The surveys, which went from 2001 through 2016, asked people how much time they spent sitting. People reported sitting a lot. For example, close to two-thirds of children and teens said they sat at least two hours a day watching television or videos. The data also showed that computer use outside of school or work has been increasing across all ages.
Lin Yang is a public-health expert at Alberta Health Services in Calgary, Canada. As an author of the new study, she notes that this trend is not unique to the United States. “Other studies out of Europe and Australia have also found increases in sitting time,” she says. “This includes sitting for work or school as well as driving rather than walking or riding a bike.”
In recent years, inactivity has been seen as an important risk to people’s health. The US Department of Health and Human Services updated its Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans last year. It now stresses new research about the dangers of too much sitting. “This new version recommends Americans not only move more, but also sit less,” Yang says.
Though Americans sit a lot due to screen time, they can make use of it to reduce its risk to health. Erin O’Loughlin, an exercise psychologist at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, studies how active video games—sometimes called “exergames”—can help kids move more. That may be good news for Americans. “Sports are great. But you don’t have to play sports if that’s not your thing,” she says. To up your active time, she recommends finding what attracts you. “If you like screen time, try to mix it with physical activity,” she says. “You can do this by playing active video games.”
32.What did researchers do in the new study?
A.They collected worldwide data. B.They improved participants’    health.
C.They did analysis on previous data. D.They observed people watch    videos.
33.What do the underlined words “this trend” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Sitting in different places. B.Lack of outdoor exercise.
C.The increase in sitting time. D.The decrease of screen time.
34.What is Erin O’Loughlin’s idea about the way to move more?
A.Combined ones come first. B.Interest actually matters a lot.
C.The easiest one is the best. D.The more challenging, the better.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Take Measures to Cut Down Sitting Time
B.Stand Instead of Sitting in Front of Screens
C.Americans Should Limit Their Screen Time
D.Screen Time Brings Health Risk to Americans

    67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In one of my Management classes in college, I sat in the same seat in the front every day. Every single day I sat there. Then one day I found myself sitting next to some foreign guy who hardly spoke English. His name was Albert. The most advanced thing that I had heard him say in English was: “Wow, my muffin(松饼) is really good!”.
This guy also had a habit of stacking(堆放) every item he owned in the exact space I sat. His bag, his food, his books, and his phone were always right on my desk space. Then every single time I walked into class, Albert would greet me with a broad smile: “Ah, Tom. You’re here. Okay,” and start wildly clearing my desk of his belongings. He then made it a habit to say “Ready for class, yeah?” and gave me a high five. Every morning the guy sitting next to me would give me a high five.
I was always annoyed with this guy. I was thinking: “Dude, you know I sit here in this seat every day. Why are you always stacking your stuff(物品) here?” And the last thing I wanted to do was give a guy who hardly spoke my language high fives at 8 in the morning! Just get your stuff off my desk!
But today I came to class and was a few minutes late. I was standing outside the classroom because I had to send a quick text. But through the door out of the comer of my eye, I could see my space—Of course, the usual—my desk was filled with Albert’s belongings!
As I was standing there on my phone, I noticed another guy who was also late walking into the class before me and trying to take my seat since it was closest to the door.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The new guy caught Albert’s eye immediately.

    3.A
M: Will you finish your final exams by this time next week?
W: Yes, by next Friday it’ll all be over, thank goodness, and I’ll be my normal self again. And I want to find a part-time job while waiting for the new term.
    4.B
W: Grand Central Station, please, I want to try to catch a 6:00 train.

M: Look, mum has left a note with housework for us while she and dad are away.
W: Let's see-tidy up the garage and clean up the backyard.
M: She doesn't say which we should do first.
W: Hey, we are not robots! We can make our own plan as long as everything gets done. Read the weather report in the newspaper.
M: Hmmm. Sunny today, cloudy tonight, probable heavy rain tomorrow. Well, that makes it easy. We work outside today and inside tomorrow.
W: Great. Let's get started. I want to go to the supermarket this afternoon.
M: OK. I'll go with you.

W: Well, I have a very crowded schedule, too. Sometimes I work overtime. But I can travel twice every year. This time is one of them.
M: Sounds good. I have only one chance every year. What do you do may I ask?
W: Oh, I’m an engineer. But I think I ought to change jobs.
M: Why? Your house is far away from the workplace?
W: No, I don’t spend too much time on my commute. The work is also challenging. I just need money to support myself.

M: This is so much fun! I've never been to a horse race before.
W: I'm glad you could come. My dad used to take me here all the time when I was a kid. He knew some of the trainers, so we would actually go down onto the track and touch the horses before races!
M: Wow! Do you know how to ride a horse?
W: Yeah, I've done it a few times. But I don't think riding a horse and racing a horse are similar at all!
M: You've got a point there. So, when does the race start?
W: In less than five minutes. But there will be a dozen races today, so if the next one isn't very competitive, we'll still have a chance to see a good race later on.
M: Awesome. Hey, what are all those people doing over there?
W: They' re putting money on which horse will win the race.
M: How do they know which will win?
W: They don't know for sure. It's just a way to have fun. All the horses have cool names, and it's a way to get people excited about cheering for them. Look, that one is named Grandpa!
    M: Ha-ha!

M: I just think it would be nice to go somewhere different, for example, Tibet.
W: Where? Tibet? But’s quite far away. It will cost a lot.
M: But I’d like to go somewhere out-of-the-way. Somewhere where there aren’t many tourists. I haven’t been to Tibet, but some people I know told me it’s a wonderful place for a holiday.
W: You might have trouble with food and water.
M: Oh, that won’t be a problem. I can get some information from the travel agency and see what they are offering. Are you coming with me?
W: I’d be quite happy to stay at home and work in the garden. I want to build a path.
    18.C 19.B 20.A
Today I want to talk about the importance of being prepared. There is a famous saying that goes: “If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” It’s famous because it is so true. Let me share with you a story that happened to me recently that proves this.
Over the summer, I had to get the main bedroom of my house rebuilt. Last week, I organized for a building examination for 11:00 on Monday. Well, at 10:55, I was still in the shower. I had forgotten all about it! When the examiner knocked on the door, I rushed out of the shower. However, I hadn’t taken the time to upgrade all the paperwork. I was totally unprepared — not to mention completely embarrassed! By 11:05, the examiner had left. He couldn’t wait around for me to get ready as he was scheduled for another job somewhere else. I made him angry by wasting his time. Unfortunately, I had to book another appointment — and I had to pay twice!
The point I am trying to make is, please, whatever you do in life, always be prepared!

The new guy caught Albert’s eye instantly. I could see Albert gazing at him attentively as he neared my seat. Just as he was about to settle down in my chair, Albert sprang to his feet and stepped up in front of him. “Excuse me,” began Albert. “Anything wrong with me?” the new guy frowned, quite taken aback by the stranger in his way. “I’m sorry. My good friend Thomas sits here.” Albert smiled to him, friendly but firmly.
It was then that I realized this guy wasn’t putting stuff on my seat to annoy me. Quite the contrary, he was saving me the seat every morning! For the whole semester he took me as a friend but I cared little about him. Flushing with guilt, I gathered all my courage and greeted him “Hi, Albert, what about eating out with me tonight?” “Ah, Tom. You’re here. Okay, I’d love to.” I beamed a warm smile at him, getting a high five this time with my new friend Albert.
