Chinese teahouses are the traditional ancient cafes of the east, forgetting together and chatting with friends and generally passing the time.
In recent years the tradition has been refreshed, becoming fashionable in modem cities. “The teahouse has become a place for people to not only enjoy tea and relax, but also to experience Chinese culture, hold social activities, host private parties and conduct business discussions.” said Wu Xiduan, secretary-general of the China Tea Circulation Association.
The Lao She Teahouse, named after the famous Chinese writer Lao She and one of his works Teahouse, is the most famous of all the teahouses. It is in Qianmen, the busiest commercial area of old Beijing, neighbouring Tian'anmen Square. It is where customers go for a traditional old-Beijing taste. They can watch all kinds of Chinese performances and enjoy Beijing-style snacks and dishes, which were eaten by Qing Dynasty Emperors. The Lao She Teahouse recreates the charm of old Beijing, which makes it a must for foreigners, who, from around the world, may come to appreciate Beijing Opera, drama, acrobatics and other Beijing folk arts, as well as enjoy tea.
In general, it costs around 100 yuantodrinktea and watch a performance in the Lao She Teahouse. Jasmine tea is the favorite of many old Beijingers, with its pure, clear taste and strong, pleasant smell. Surprisingly, when boiling water is poured in the glass, the ordinary jasmine tea ball turns into a beautiful flower. It's definitely on the menu at the Lao She Teahouse. Also, it would be a pity to miss the performance of the Xiao'ers while you're watching the shows. Every Xiao'er at the Lao She Teahouse carries a special capper pot with a metre-long spout(壶嘴). The long- spout pot is a special heirloom(传家宝) in an old Beijing teahouse, especially designed for making green tea. Through this long spout, the temperature of the water drops to the correct 80 degrees centigrade, so customers can enjoy the best smell.
Dawan tea is just as famous as the long-spouted teapot. The Chinese name means “inexpensive tea in a big tea bowl” and it was another old Beijing teahouse specialty. It's said that the founder of Lao She Teahouse, started his business by serving Dawan tea for just two cents each. And today it's the only teahouse still serving Dawan tea for two cents a bowl, even though it brings nothing in.

A new underwater camera developed recently at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) could have many uses, including climate modeling.
More than 95 percent of the earth's oceans have never been observed. This means we have seen less of our planet's ocean than we have the far side of the moon or the surface of Mars. What is preventing widespread undersea exploration? The answer is the high cost of powering an underwater camera for a long time.
MIT researchers have taken a big step to solve this problem. They developed a new underwater camera. The camera is about 100,000 times more energy-saving than other undersea cameras. It takes color photos, even in dark underwater environments and sends images through the water. Most importantly, it can work for a very longtime by powering itself.
The camera tums energy from sound waves traveling through water into electrical energy. It uses the electrical energy to power its imaging and communication equipment. After capturing images in the ocean, the camera also uses sound waves to send them to a receiver. The camera doesn't ne cd a power source, so it could run for weeks on end. And this allows scientists to search more parts of the ocean. The camera could also be used to capture images of ocean pollution.
“We can use the camera to help us learn what is happening to the climate. Personally, this is one of the most exciting things about the camera. We are building climate models, but we need to know more about the ocean. This technology could help us build more dc tailed climate models and better understand bow climate change has effects on the underwater world,” says Fadel Adib, director of the Signal Kinetics group in the MIT Media Lab.
37. Why does the writer mention the moon and Mars?
A. To suggest that we need to study the ocean.
B. To explain the difficulty in scientific research.
C To correct a misunderstanding about the ocean.
E. To show our knowledge of the ocean isn't enough.
38. Why is the new camera considered a big step?
A. It takes over 100, 000 photos.
B. It works for a long time underwater.
C. It costs little to build such a camera.
D. It operates well in dark environments.
39. What is the main idea of the fourth paragraph?
A. How the camera works.
B. What the camera looks like.
C. How the camera moves underwater.
D. Which parts of the ocean the camera works in.
40. What can the camera help scientists do according to Fadel Adib?
A. Prevent the ocean getting polluted.
B. Build more complete climate models.
C. Understand the reasons for climate change.
D. Get more people interested in the underwater world.
