Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris—Marne-laVallee, France
It opened on April 12, 1992. Its layout(布局) is similar to that of the Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California and Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida; it even has a Sleeping Beauty Castle. There are changes to the design of the park to make it better suited for the Parisian weather; the hotels and restaurants have fire-places, and covered walkways are built around the park. Occupying an area of about 140 acres, its attractions include Phantom Manor (its version of the Haunted Mansion), Space Mountain: Mission 2 and Disneyland Railroad.
Tokyo DisneySea—Tokyo, Japan
Said to be the most expensive theme park ever built at 335 billion yen, the Tokyo DisneySea also has the record of being visited by 10 million guests in the shortest time since opening. 307 days after its opening on September 4, 2001, it posted 10 million visits. The park has seven areas, or “ports of call” as they are called in the park; they are Mediterranean Harbour, American Waterfront, Lost River Delta, Port Discovery, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Coast, and Mysterious Island. Its attractions include Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Raging Spirits and Aquatopia.
Tokyo Disneyland—Tokyo, Japan
Just like Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris, this park was built after the blueprints of Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida. Opening on April 15, 1983, it features seven themed areas: the World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, Critter Country and Mickey’s Toontown. Its attractions include Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek, Western River Railroad, Pooh’s Honey Hunt, Space Mountain and the Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha e Komo Mai!
Disneyland Park at Disneyland Resort—California, USA
Opening on July 17, 1955, this park is the only Disneyland park built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney himself. Dr Dian Fossey, one of the world's leading women scientists, had a remarkable career. The work—she devoted her life to protecting and studying the mountain gorillas(大猩猩) of Africa—has proved highly effective and has resulted in the steady increase of the most endangered great apes.
Fossey made her first trip to Africa in 1963. Three years later, she returned to Africa to begin a long-time study of the mountain gorillas. She set up camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo but moved to Rwanda because of political reasons in 1967. She established her “Karisoke” Research Centre camp on September 24, 1967.
Fossey’s aims were to study gorilla ecology and social organization. She found that in order to achieve this, she needed to recognize individual gorillas, which required that the gorillas get used to her presence(出现). By copying gorillas’ behaviour and sounds, Fossey began to gain their trust, and in 1970 an adult male gorilla she had named “Peanuts” reached out to touch her hand.
Close observations over thousands of hours enabled Fossey to gain the gorillas’ trust and bring forth new knowledge about their behaviour. Stories and photographs of her work were published in National Geographic Magazine and elsewhere.
In 1977, one of Fossey’s favorite gorillas, Digit, was killed by poachers and she established the Digit Fund to help raise money for gorilla protection efforts in the same year.
On December 26, 1985, Fossey was murdered while going back to her house in Karisoke. Her body was discovered near the research centre. Most probably, Dian Fossey had been killed by the poachers she’d fought against. On her tombstone(墓碑), “No one loved gorillas more...”
In 1988, the life and the work of Fossey were made into a movie based on her book.

During a decline in tourism, one national park in Thailand has seen a dramatic rise in “visitors” recently. So many are the hermit crabs(寄居蟹) flooding into the otherwise empty beaches of Koh Lanta that shells(贝壳) for them to live in have become in short supply.
The Thai government moved quickly to ease the housing shortage, launching a public appeal for empty shells that netted over 200 kg. On December 5 these were distributed around the park in a ceremony.
Hermit crabs rely on shells to protect their soft bodies, moving to larger shells as they grow. On Koh Lanta and the surrounding smaller islands, their rapid increase seems to be a natural phenomenon, rather than directly related to the absence of tourists. But the shortage of shells may be man-made: pretty ones have long been gathered to be sold as goods. Crabs had begun to make do with potential death-traps such as plastic caps and bottles.
The shell drive was part of a government initiative to “regain the balance of nature”. “I have instructed all national parks to do whatever it takes,” says Varawut Silpa-archa, the minister for natural resources. His inspiration comes from the pause in tourism brought on by COVID-19. A ban on international visitors and the closure of national parks have helped nature recover, bringing endangered leatherback turtles back onto Thai beaches. In the coastal provinces of Phang Nga and Phuket, turtles have laid the largest number of eggs for 20 years.
The government has decided to try to copy the short break forced on it by COVID-19 in future. From now on, all national parks will be required to close for a short period during the off-season and to limit the number of tourists through a reservation system when they are open. Although such restrictions mean reduced earnings from tourism in the short term, in the longer run more parks may help to keep the tourists coming.
8. What happened to the beaches of Koh Lanta recently?
A. They got flooded by seawater. B. They became completely empty.
C. They were packed with hermit crabs. D. They saw a constant stream of tourists.
9. What contributed to the housing shortage for hermit crabs?
A. Natural disasters. B. Human activities.
C. Their preference for bottles. D. The government's involvement.
10. Why are turtles mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A. To warn turtles are dying out. B. To prove beaches are their ideal habitats.
C. To stress ecological diversity of Thailand. D. To show the birth of Varawut’s inspiration.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Keeping the Balance of Nature B. COVID-19 Helping Nature Recover
C. Finding Shelters for Homeless Hermit Crabs D. Closing National Parks or Drawing More Visitors
D
Outdoor or nature-based preschools have spread greatly in recent years, from just a handful of programs a decade ago to more than 400 across the country today. And they are coming to Washington. Into the Forest is one example. It is an outdoor learning center and preschool in Spokane Valley. Co-owners Megan Benedict and Chesey Converse have both worked in traditional preschool settings for years, but they wanted to try something different. “We bring all of our work outside that we usually do inside,” Converse said. “Whatever we could've done in there, we just bring it out and have fun out here.”
Converse says the kids spend at least 50 percent of their time outdoors as opposed to sitting inside at a desk. The center gives kids the opportunity to learn through nature hikes, wilderness training, playtime with natural objects and plenty of outdoor time.
Benedict says Into the Forest aims to help kids learn to handle problems and challenges by giving them real-world experience. “It’s about what children learn about themselves from being outside,” Benedict said. “It’s helping them to think to find their way around and figure out their feelings about changing situations. It’s helping them to be resilient.”
Jenna Alfrey says her 4-year-old son Kingston has Down’s syndrome(唐氏综合征) and faces challenges in a traditional setting. She says Into the Forest gives him opportunities he might not have somewhere else. “There was just no doubt that he would be included in his age group,” Alfrey said.
Benedict and Converse say Into the Forest has both an indoor and outdoor area and is licensed(许可) as a childcare center. The pair is also interested in starting centers that are fully outdoors. Into the Forest is part of Washington’s outdoor preschool pilot program, which is working out licensing requirements necessary for all-day fully outdoor preschools. Right now. such centers can only run for four hours at a time.
12. What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A. Into the Forest is a traditional school. B. Outdoor programs meet various challenges.
C. Into the Forest is illegal in Washington. D. Outdoor preschools are growing in popularity.
13. What does the underlined word “resilient” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Proud. B. Adaptable. C. Careful. D. Intelligent.
14. How did Alfrey feel about Into the Forest?
A. She regarded it as unexpected. B. She regarded it as fruitless.
C. She was excited about it. D. She was curious about it.
15. What can we infer about Benedict and Converse from the last paragraph?
A. They will help their school get licensed. B. They will limit Into the Forest’s outdoor time.
C. They are trying to open fully outdoor centers. D. They are asking the government to start outdoor programs.

New animal species
We share the Earth with millions of animal species. 16 Some are small like some organisms(微生物) that live in the ocean. However, although the Earth has millions of animal species, many are endangered. Scientists are trying to save endangered animals, but surprisingly, they are also finding new species.
In a South American rainforest, 60 new species of animals were found in 2012. Scientists say the reason so many new kinds of animals were found there is that this rainforest was almost untouched by humans. Six new species of frogs were discovered at this time. 17 Scientists named one new frog the cocoa frog because of the color of its skin. The cocoa frog lives in the tall trees in this rainforest.
18 A new shark was discovered in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South Carolina. The new shark, called the Carolina hammerhead(锤头鲨) looks like a hammerhead shark, but it has fewer bones. A new kind of small ocean creature was also discovered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast near California. The creature looks like a see-through shrimp(虾) and it is only 3.3 millimeters long.
In Turkey, scientists have found a new species of wood scorpion(木蝎). 19 The new scorpion, though, lives in humid(湿热的) environments and hides under rocks. It is small and mostly harmless to humans.
When so many animal species are becoming endangered, finding new ones is exciting. 20 Many animals—both known and unknown—may contribute to the Earth in ways science doesn’t even understand yet.
A. Some are huge, like elephants.
B. There are steps that people can take to protect animals.
C. New kinds of animals are also being found in the oceans.
D. Some scientists offer classes on studying new animal species.
E. However, scientists are continuing to try to save endangered animals.
F. Scorpions are poisonous animals that usually live in dry environments.
G. This is particularly important because frogs around the world are dying out.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every comer of the small bedroom was filled with summer heat. Hot air snaked across my chest and made my already labored breathing more difficult. At nearly ten years old, I thought I was too old to have the croup(哮吼). The bad cough told a different story.
Earlier that morning, fever and congestion(鼻塞) had been my greatest enemies. I became angry because of the mix. As the excited voices of my sister and two cousins came upstairs, I squeezed deeper into the soft bed. The closing of the front door, followed by the noise of my uncle’s old car threw me further into disappointment. They went off on an afternoon adventure, while I was stuck in bed. Again.
I complained, which only served to fuel my anger. Worn out by the bad cough and the heat, I fell asleep. When I awoke, my grandmother was sitting in a chair next to my bed, shelling peas into a big pot.
She looked at me and smiled. “Good. Harriet, you’re awake.” She reached over and pressed her hand against my forehead. “Better. In a few days, you’ll be up and running around.”
“Not soon enough,” I said unhappily.
Her hands stilled for a moment, several peas held in her fingers. “Ah, the trip.”
I hit the bed hard with my fist (拳头). “They could have waited. I’m stuck here and they’re off having a good time. It’s not fair.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I spoke.
My grandmother remained silent. Her hands again moved smoothly, continuing to shell peas as if they had a life of their own. When she finally spoke, her voice had an edge to it. “So, who told you life was fair?”
